LEGO Technic Liebherr LR 13000 Crawler Crane 42146 Unveiled! No Gearbox!

- The LEGO Technic Liebherr LR 13000 42146 has finally, been officially revealed! This is a phenomenal crawler crane! The LEGO 42146 is absolutely massive, standing at a full meter tall. It uses 6 motors, as well as two hubs. The chassis is massive, and I'm certain that it will be a ton of fun to play with. However, each motor drives its own function. There are no gearboxes or any complex mechanisms like that. That is a major downside.

This set will be releasing on August 1st
why does there need to be a gearbox in wvery set. NO GEARBOX IN CRANES. have you ever driven a real crane?
ps i dont want to be mean i like your vids .
Are there electric motors in real cranes?
@@Unbrickme for the drive and the drums are Hydraulik motors used . at least in the big ones. there are electric motors are usen for slewing and the Hydraulik valves. and every crawler crane has at least 1 diesel engine . the liebherr 130000 even has 2 500 hp twin tus o engines. so no gearboxes are needed . only 1 type of gearbos is used in every crane and thats a planetary gearbox.
@@Unbrickmebasicly all of them are, cranes are driven on electric motors, excavators on hydrolic pumps and electric motors for the tracks, there ia however an diesel engine running supplying the electric power to run crames and excavators
@ms1988 Nice thanks for letting me know. However, I think mechanisms don’t need to be accurate. All mechanisms should do is simply be as advanced as possible. No mechanism out there in technic is truly accurate to its real life counterpart
I expected the boom to be longer
Imagine if it were two meters tall
Fr wouldn't even fit my shelf lmao
Fr wouldn't even fit my shelf lmao
That's what she said
@@TribeXFiresame person. Commented twice
I expected a taller set, was really looking forward to this. The Jib and Boom look to be very short. I heard Lego had stability issues and dropped the height, but raised the price.
Imagine if it were 2 meters tall! That’s taller than most people!
I get that’s it’s a big set, bigger than my Liebherr 9800 and Cat, but it’s out of proportion, too small. That’s all.
With the initial announcement it was much taller (6 feet?) But then in 2022 it got delayed and redesigned.
I’d want the original, pre redesigned version!
@@Unbrickmesame
I can’t wait - the construction technic sets are some of my favorites!
Same here! Technic construction vehicles are the best!
@@Unbrickmesame here
If I had the money I would definitely get this set.
I feel as though TLG was backed into a corner with this set. I'm not sure what the rumoured stability issues were but depending on how far into production it was it could have been very costly. Not to mention the development cost of all the very specific frame and counterweight pieces for this set (I'm guessing that's the reason that 4+ sets have a very high price per piece ratio). So it was either, cancel the set and write off an insane amount of money or release the set with an increased price to make up for the blowout on budget.
Great explanation for a possible reason for its price! I think you’re correct
Yup. I can agree with that analogy. Sometimes sh*t happens. Same for TLG in some unexpected cases. Concerning the Liebherr R9800 when exceptionally well! And I guess the approach with the L13.000 was the same, as in making it spectactular, but then, ran into issues. And now having to compensate.
I love that you have a good spot for the classic Auto Chassis behind you! That was the ultimate model of it's time and is still really cool.
Yes that set is amazing! Those old engine blocks are phenomenal and I love the sliding gear transmission! So functional!
bucket wheel excavator also had very insane gearbox, oh the price of this new set is insane.
The bucket wheel excavator’s gearbox wasn’t that special. It was just a basic multidirectional gearbox. It did have some incredible mechanisms though, like synchronizing the lower conveyor with the ground as the superstructure rotates
@@Unbrickme i guess lol but it was just a epic technic set, had a awesome b model. i recently found one from a local seller bnib for a reasonable price.
People have already commented on price, that alone will prevent me from picking up this set, but compare it to a picture of the real crane. While many configurations exist, this feels very disproportionate, on par with the UCS hulkbuster. If they wanted to make an awesome (not accurate) crane set, why would they get it branded? Anyways, this is cool but I'd not pay what they ask - disregarding the price per part discrepancy.
I don’t care about its accuracy to the real life counterpart. The functions are what actually concern me
Compared to the many real pics of the 13000 this set is reduced in height and boom. It looks very disproportionate. If your paying over AUD $1K then it has to also look realistic.
I love this beast! Impressive and filled up with 20 new pieces. The price unfortunately extremly high.
Yes! Great set; bad price
On other site they say it will be 560$, still too much for same and same yellow technic elements, 400$ would be ok
Let’s hope that LEGO reduces the price last minute
Holy s*** it's FOUR YEARS since 42100 release?? I usually don't get lost in time, but this really made me breathe hard...
And of course, this set looks great!
The 2020s just flew by
And so far the amazing Lego Technic sets that have been released to my p.o.v. has been the Lamborghini Sian in 2020, Heavy-Duty Tow Truck and the Caterpillar Bulldozer in 2021, and the Ferrari Daytona last year.
Amazon has the LR13000 from Mould King that is almost 7 foot tall. I paid $460 for one in January. It is now selling for $240.
Wow! I wish the LEGO version was even taller!
Knowing mould king it probably doesn’t work or breaks within a week
I don't care about the price tag, I will find a way to buy this when it comes out!!! My 2 favorite things in life, Lego and cranes. 🤤
Same here
The XL motor has been discontinued?
[sorry for my English] I agree. Such heavy machines normally stay stationary when working. So no need to use the tracks and boom simultaneously. It means they could have divided several functions to switch between them.
They definitely should have. Would’ve made the set cheaper too
Not all crawler cranes are stationary, some do move.
I can't wait to buy on Tuesday!! I'll def be watching the review that was just posted today while building!!
The blue Crawler Crane 42042 is a little bit smaller than this new Liebherr model. It has very similar complex gearing to the Excavator. Whoever designed the gearing was a mad genius, it took me a while to wrap my head around it. Sometime, I need to play around with modifying it to reduce the winch gearing further (for more torque / lift capability) and maybe also the the turn-table gearing (too fast, in my opinion).
That was a good set. The 8043 was still a lot more complex though
I think this set is very cool, and i’ve always wanted a lego technic crane thats rc, but $700 is way to expensive
Incredible set; horrible price
having no gearbox is actually a good thing for playability. although cool to build and look at, the tolerance of Legos are just not fit for long/complicated gearboxes, the meshing, friction, and mechanical losses kills the fun in it.
Why you have deleted the Short video for the set box from your channel????
1:04 I think these are the same frame pieces that were introduced in the 42157 John Deere Tractor, just recolored in grey.
Those, and dome new ones are used
@@Unbrickme Oh I see, makes sense now
Hello Unbrickme, I'm not finding this set on the Lego website, could you tell me what website you saw that it was officially released by Lego? Thanks
“Officially revealed” means any official store showcased images. In this case, a French retailer showcased the images.
@@Unbrickme Ahhh, ok thanks alot
The $700 dollar price tag is out of this world. For its piece count and amount of motors I would have thought it retailed for between $350- 400 dollars. Its even more expensive than the Titanic!! This is so not worth it.
Basically another case of the UCS star destroyer from 2019
No one is holding a gun to your head to make you buy it are they?
It is slightly disappointing to what I was expecting, mainly I was expecting a longer boom but I will probably just modify it for a longer boom and add a derrick ballast.
why has the XL motor been discontinued?
I guess it was just too similar to the L motor. Their torque was identical
I'm gonna look at the parts list and then build it myself with some parts I have to buy which are new. Much cheaper than €700.
Good plan
Nice video , Unbrickme. Will you get the crane?
YES!!!
Since when is the XL motor discontinued?
A few months now. LEGO has been clearing the stock of the xl motor through sales for even longer
I like it when it has no gearbox
How come?
Wait, why did discontinued the XL motor? It would've made the whole set a lot better
Not really. It was just bigger it had identical torque to the L motor.
THE LEGENDARY 42146 I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Same! We've all been waiting for it since January 2022. Maybe the rumors about it came out back in December 2021? I don't remember the exact time at this point
@@Unbrickme yeah but i think that's all the 2023 sets. Can't wait for 2024
@@Unbrickme i can't wait for a new 1/8 LEGO Technic set!
It would have to be a 1:48 scale model. And thats a 48 meter hook height for this boom config which would be an sdwb with 3 + 3 sections in each boom. Anything else is off scale and disproportional
Honestly I just care about functions and not if it’s accurate to its real life counterpart. Looks good enough to me
I've got a construction worker minifigure standing on the walkway on mine, holding onto to railing so he can't fall over. Looking at the height of the railings and size of the control cab, it's not far off minifig scale
Please connect that red beam on the 8865 behind you :D
Ok
Wait what? When did they discontinue the XL motor?
Like a few months ago. Maybe even earlier
looks awesome! hopefully, i won't have to sell a kidney to get it.
I’m so excited for this set
wow! super cool video!
Thank you!
Well in opinion, $700 for 2283 pieces is the worst deal ever and many people say that it is overpriced.
And 2 hubs with 6 motors. Also many of those pieces are big
The price depends on the size of the model meanwhile 2018 Mack Anthem 83cm 2400+ pieces and car transporter 89cm 2200+ pieces. Every have price less then 170$
True but they didn’t have any electronics
I love this set I would love more construction vehicles more then cars
Are you going to buy this set for revieuw? Would love to see it but its too much for me.
Absolutely! I will buy anything technic
What makes it officially revealed? It's neither on the Lego Facebook page nor on the website.
A French retailer leaked the images
@@Unbrickme it appears that french retailer has removed the images from their website?
@@mtgoat1016 too late now
I expected it will have the 7 stud wide yellow crawler tracks
Same
$700? This is just crazy. I will not go within a mile of this set.
42146: Revenge of the Znap.
The Znap Strikes Back
Nice Stickers on teh Set.
mouldking already did a crane set twice the size of this one and it used the PF system and i think it was way cheaper than this. $700 is just way to much to spend on a lego set. so mouldking gets my money
How tall is the mound king one?
@@UnbrickmeMy ceiling is about 7 feet tall and this crane comes close to touching it.
I bought one on Amazon and paid $460 for it in January. It is now $240.
it's so good
Yes it’s incredible!
0:28 what do you mean discontinued?
It’s gone; you can’t buy it anymore
ich finde es eine frechheit das der nicht 1.50 hoch ist dann wäre der preis für mich ok
700 breaks my heart
Sorry lego but the mould king 17015 already exists
One thing I was expecting you saying was the release date but you didn't say and that's what I'm looking for
August 1st
Ok thank you
I think I got the 8043 for €120, back in the day. I know that was quite a while back and inflation is a thing. But still, $700 is insane. Definitly too much for me.
Wow nice! Do you still have your 8043 built?
@@Unbrickme I do, actually it is the only LEGO Technic set that I keep in its built state, just because looking at it is so inspirational. All other Technic sets end up as parts sooner or later.
For me its to expensive i did not expect this low piece count for this price i dont love the price bc you can much more motorized set and rc such as rough terrain cran and much more, anyways love your videos.
LEGO Crane 2500-2900 parts 700$ that's not worth it, for comparison. Mold King 17015 Technic Crane 4318 parts, 200$, 188 x 37 x 173 cm. Both are RC only the Mold King battery is rechargeable and also comes with an RC remote control. So why spend $700 on it. Is it $200 for Liebherr to say it, or why?
LEGO pieces are of a much higher quality in general, but yes I agree $700 is too much
@@Unbrickme I wouldn't be surprised if you can only buy the set from lego for only $700. I gradually got the feeling that the prices at lego depend on the size of the set, when does the empty 1m 1m 1m cube with the 400 parts come for $1000 ;)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Did you post at 1:30AM??
Did you comment at 1:30 AM?
I would say it is too expensive… but it look unbelievable, so maybe….
I don't think pricing should reflect the size. The frames are mostly empty space. I don't think the price is justified at all.
Well, should be interesting to see price per unit of weight as well. The pieces do seem large.
Given lego’s recent price increases, $700 is nothing shocking
700$ ? No way !
I think the lack of a gearbox is a good thing. They've had jamming issues, they take a long time to switch gears and it makes operating multiple functions at the same time impossible. I don't mind the price tag either. Things are becoming more expensive and it's been 2 years since we got the D11 bulldozer. Plus the smart hubs and motors aren't cheap. It's a shame they had to reduce the height. Originally it was supposed to reach 1.5 metres
No gearbox =less pieces but more motors
And more expensive
No lego cat d11t IS same prize with Liebherr 450€
Like the Titanic out of my price range
It’s the titanic of technic sets
I don’t think it’s overpriced, just REALLY steep. I see people being confused about the size, I get it, but what did you expect from lego
Especially now with their price increases, and general inflation everywhere
i dont like it kinda, like i like the kit but the boom sucks even though it is tall its just not the same as the LR13000 Powerboom that thing is amazing and its the whole reason i love the LR13000
What’s the power boom version? Is it a kit you assemble like LEGO?
@@Unbrickme no no its an actual variant that the real life LR13000 has
finally
IKR
Good video man but I just dont understand why someone would spend $700 on this set.The price to piece ratio is terrible
I agree the price is too high but I would in this case also consider price per unit of weight comparison since the pieces are on average very large.
Also something to consider, the ferrari Daytona is $450 but has no electronics. This has 6 motors and 2 hubs, and it’s much larger.
You still have madness 8043
Three times ×u!
I will never stop going crazy over the 8043! It’s the single greatest LEGO set of all time
As much as I like gearboxes, I actually don't see how they would benefit or provide significant value to this set. I'd imagine this to be a slow vehicle where the user has full control over all of the moving parts, and I'm not sure how gearboxes would contribute to that goal besides being interesting mechanical devices themselves.
The 8043 melts your brain as you play with it. You need to experience that set
It looks good but PPP is way to high.
Yeah, but it’s massive
another set I cant afford...
This guy when a set has no gearbox😮😮, all jokes tho, lego need to get on it and actually make good functions in sets, the airbus was imo the last good set we had
LEGO should bring back the 8043
How kuch did u spend on these sets?💀
the value of all sets i have ever owned is probably over $100K
@@UnbrickmeDAYUM👁️👄👁️
bros wallet have more money than a country gdp
I don't like that they are making specialised frames. I'd rather they would make something that you put inside the frame as a detail...
Agreed! Too many frames these days. I prefer to build frames out of beams
This sure is expensive 😮
The single most expensive technic set ever
Ok this is actually insane how can they justify 700 for it. And no gearbox?!?!? Come on this is Lego technic please have actual technical mechanisms
Hopefully there’s some really cool mechanism inside
Damn I forgor: interesting
It’s the most interesting crane ever
@@Unbrickme so far*
The value is NOT worth it at all! No gearbox and only 2883 pieces and priced at $700?! That is absolutely insane! It really should've been priced at at least $350 because the Volvo Articulated Hauler cost less than that but it had 400 less pieces and a motorized gearbox. Size shouldn't have been considered for price.
Size is absolutely something to consider, since in this case, there are a ton of large frames for the booms. Other technic sets have their part count filled up by smaller panels or something like that.
But yes $700 is too much. Honestly nothing unpredictable though. The liebherr excavator of 2019 had 7 motors and 2 hubs and a bit over 4K pieces. It retailed for $450 The cat d11 bulldozer retailed for the EXACT SAME price, had about the same about of pieces, but had 3 fewer motors and 1 fewer hub. So the price was already increasing. Now, the Ferrari Daytona costs $450, despite having NO ELECTRONICS but about the same amount of pieces.
Since this set has 2 hubs and 6 motors, and considering that the unmotorized ferrari Daytona is $450, the price of $700 is nothing shocking
My wallet is in danger is what I would say if they do a app control front end loader
A remake of the 2014 l350f wheel loader perhaps?
@@Unbrickme I hope
Big meh. Disappointed at most.
The scale is Insanely incorrect. The base should be wider and the signature track profile is completely lost.
The cab and engineering module are to big. The superstructure is to small.
The turntable is not tall enough and the boom is to small.
For 900 it looks like a technic variant of lego 7632
To me, whether it’s accurate to its real life counterpart is not important. What’s far more important to me is the functionality
Agree, it is undersized, the boom and overall height is very small (short)
@@Unbrickme i agree and disagree. They named it lr 13000 might aswell be more accurate with it. They can pull it off with their irl structures and special cars, technic excavator so why not with something people were willing to pay big for.
Nice model...for 400$. It have big parts? Yes, and 200 parts for the tracs...
$500 would be a far more reasonable price, and still high enough to meet LEGO’s profit margin standards
Я не понимаю почему Лего так ленятся зделать коробку передач, в этом году из 16 наборов коробка передач будет всего в одном😒
Seriously who can afford this.
Only Bezos
Ridiculous price, with those lazy custom-made beams that you'll probably never use anywhere else, where are we going with this? Lego is supposed to be about great mechanisms and the ability to rebuild, with very little to no custom-made parts that will only be used in one set. We'll soon be seeing 1000$+ price tags on lego sets... while they still struggle with plastic quality and still have problematic colors with different tints in the same box. Give me a break! Hard pass!
It costs how much!?!?! That's too high. Star Wars sets can ride off the name of the franchise, Lego technic cannot. It's overpriced.
Star Wars is nothing compared to technic. Technic is a billion times better
@@UnbrickmeAgree with that! Apart from the original films lol. And Rogue One 😊 I mean Star Wars sets have always been expensive due to the franchise name, but Liebherr doesn't have the same attraction. It makes the r9800 look like a bargain! I will need to be strong willed enough not to buy this crane though 😂
Oh and I also wouldn't say no to one of the giant Star Wars sets even if they are very expensive .
Omg world ends worst set ever for poor unbrickme since no gearbox
My Moc Liebherr is way better than that thing
I pieced out the parts I'd need to build the LTM 11200 technic model in the vein of the master builders and it came to about $1000 for 4000 pieces via Bricklink...I am not a fan of crawler cranes. I am a wheel guy, I prefer the all terrain cranes or the rough terrain cranes.
Is that including the electronics?
@@Unbrickme yes...this was many years ago back in the early/mid aughts...also a lot of these pieces were assumed ie motors and electronics
