Kaushik Dasgupta BSOD is a bit more frequent than I'd like and appears suddenly...can be irritating, but I've learnt to live with it.

I understand you have good knowledge in computers so I thought how about clearing a few doubts. I just bought this hp pavilion laptop a few months back. It had a 11.6 inch hd ips display. You know ips displays are better than conventional TN displays and it did have a very good display with good viewing angles. This laptop came with an intel celeron n3050 processor, 2gb RAM, 500GB hard drive. I have to tell you, I had a really harrowing experience with this laptop It was damn slow. It couldn't even play a decent 720p movie on VLC. In the end i had to sell it off at a throw away price. Since then I have been like cat which fell into hot water. When I first saw this x5 I was really impressed. The fact that you are getting a laptop with ful hd at such a low price itself tempts you to buy one. But this time i was extra careful to not rush. Since then i have been looking for a detailed review. Today i am almost convinced to go for the x5 except for a couple of doubts. The first one is regarding the processor. Do you think the atom x3-z8300 processor is better than a celeron or a pentium processor? Secondly, is the RAM in this laptop expandable? Ie is there a second RAM slot? Thirdly does the display take up a lot of processing power? Is the graphics card good? Lastly will this laptop stand up for a few years?
Hi Aravind, I'll try and answer your queries to the best of my ability:
1) The atom or low end pentiums or celerons are just that - low end, so we cannot expect much power or performance from them. Though the pentiums and celerons have more processing power, the atom has more cores, so it would really depend on what you expect them to do. A service engineer I spoke to felt that the i3 was a better bet than the Atom.
2) You can't add more RAM.The RAM is not expandable for the Atom X5 z8300 processor.
3) It comes with integrated graphics, which is decent enough for watching movies but you can't do heavy gaming or run programmes that are too demanding on graphics processing. As you could see in the video, it couldn't handle a screen recorder too well, as that demands more graphics power than the Atom integrated graphics can deliver.
4) With tech evolving all the time, there will always be something newer, faster, better (and hopefully, cheaper)...the Atom is generally regarded as 'use and throw' as it's cheap, and you can't really repair or modify it. So I doubt that it'll last you satisfactorily for a few years...but then, that's just my opinion!
It's a nice, fun machine, provided you are satisfied using it for light games and work, and watching movies. For me, the 'kick' is getting a little laptop of this to do something it's not supposed to be capable of (like the audio and video edit of the review)....it actually did it, but it was time-consuming and a little painful, so it's not going to be my first choice for video editing. It's great as a secondary laptop as it's easy to carry around, but do not expect it to be a work horse. So if it struggles while you're pushing it, well, that's to be expected...but then you may even discover something surprising that it can do! :)

1. I watch a lot of tv shows and movies. If I keep watching videos continuously, how much hours do you think it will last?? (at full brightness and airplane mode on and power option at 'Balanced' mode)
2. Can it play hevc h.265 codec 1080p videos smoothly?? If yes, at what fps???

A further query - "White" background say in Word or Explorer - is it white or a bit pale white? How does the Black text & fonts contrast with the "White" background? As I am thinking about buying one.
Kaushik Dasgupta I find no problem with the black text on white background. It has a really good brightness range so you can have the white look really bright by increasing the brightness. For me, I prefer to mostly keep it more muted, and am quite happy with 25% or even 0% brightness...unless I'm outdoors, when I increase it.

One thing i would like to share is that flip x5 doesnt support SanDisk sd cards. I bought 64 gb sd card but i couldn't move files to it. However if connected through usb slot, there will be no problem. But the micro sd card slot doesnt support sandisk 64 gb card.
And one more thing
Can we use heavy software in it like Photoshop..; catia ..;or NFS..; DMC4 type games ..?
+Vaibhav Gharte I doubt that Photoshop would work satisfactorily. This laptop doesn't have the RAM and graphics power that heavy applications demand.

I am planning to buy one for my travel. I don't want to carry my regular laptop mainly due to weight. This seem ideal option and not too heavy on the pocket. I have few queries, I see you have utilised the two USB ports nicely. Let know how was the experience. My specific case, I have a USB 3 external drive of 1TB and a SD card reader again with a USB 3 configuration. Can I use these both in the USB ports as one is USB3 and other is USB2? Also weather both port get sufficient power to drive, which I have heard as problem in some other similar priced ones. How has been your experience in transferring SD card data thru a card reader on to your external hard drives. Is there any special care that need to be taken in these situations.
Final one..Since I saw you have used Video and Audio editing software? Have you had chance to use Adobe CC on this? If so how was the experience.. Thanks and again great review...
Hi Manohar, the 1 TB drive should be fine, I have used 4 TB and 2 TB drives with no problem, plugged directly into the USB 3 and USB 2 ports.. I have not used a card reader with this, but I'm guessing it should be OK.
The hub I used in the video to connect the external storage had it's own power adapter.
This laptop is not powerful enough to run Adobe. You could try other options like Pixlr for light photo editing and Inkscape for vectors.

As your video starts you say it is bought for your father who likes to do video editing. So can we install video and photo editing softwares like Adobe photoshop and premiere pro??
+Subinita Mazumder , yes, it can be used for video editing, but with a lighter application. Premier Pro and Photoshop demand minimum hardware specs and probably will not run satisfactorily on this. Also, even with a lighter video editing application, I faced quite a bit of stutter while working on this review.

Milind Gavkar Thanks so much for your comments, especially about my Dad...it means a lot, since he passed away just a week after I'd uploaded the review, and ironically, was enjoying working on this laptop and getting the hang of using the touchscreen (since I'd monopolized it for most of the 2 months, doing the review), when he suffered a heart attack. Since then, the laptop has a new use - that of a digital photo frame, with Dad's photos...and the tent-mode is perfect for this. He would be pleased.
Apologies for the amateur bits...this was my very 1st review n I've learnt since! I used no special settings for Filmora, but I did break the project up into individual segments, and then combined them in the final render. But I will not be attempting further video edits on this (unless they're very small projects)!
Sad to know that your dad is no more physically...but, still, he is with you...in your memory.
Add more reviews, it can open flood-gates of success for you.
By the way, how much time Filmora took to render this video?

Thanks Milind...for your sake, I have reinstalled Filmora (had uninstalled it as I didn't think I'd be using this for more video editing) as I couldn't remember the render time for this video...so I have just rendered it again. It has taken 1 hour 20 min 36 sec to render to a 1.25 GB MP4 file at 7000 kbps bitrate. The final project comprised of 46 clips rendered to a single file.

Hi Prashant, I haven't got to try the i360 but on paper the main difference is:
Colour: Dark brown vs Gold
Display: Flip X5 has FHD 1920x1024 whereas the i360 has HD 1366 x 768;
Camera: Flip X5 2.0 MP vs i360 0.3 MP
Power adapter Flip X5 2.5A i360 2.0A
Weight: i360 is .02 kg lighter, which is practically negligible.
Everything else appears to be the same.

now i am using this device from 3 months
two day ago i face screen flickering issue.
while surfing net on chrome screen start flicker so fast and 30% of bottom screen become black
so i have to shut down my device than after it hardly flicker for less than one second its hard to spot that flicker but that type of flicker appear hardly in a week from starting initially i thought problem with my eyes in blinking but now sure that less than second flicker are there but not daily but two day ago incident was too horrible. any such issue from ur device?

And for mounting multiple hard drives on a USB hub, though you can see all the drives, simultaneous transfer speed is what actually matters - and I doubt any USB hub on any laptop can do that better. And for the display - White is usually white in all displays- it's black that has to be actually deep black :). Excellent review though.
Ram Kishore Kannan thanks. I found the transfer speed on this better than my HP i5 6th gen with 4 GB RAM (which I bought at the same time as the iBall). It still is, though I really don't know why!
A1 May be because it's USB 3.0 in iball and USB 2.0 in hp. Just guessing.
