I am well aware of this situation. My best friend and I developed feelings for each other. However, he was too afraid to pursue a relationship because he didn't want to add to the pain I had already experienced or risk losing our friendship. We continued with our lives, but it was emotionally difficult.
Eventually, I got married, but the marriage ended in divorce eight years later. At that point, he asked if I would consider giving our relationship a chance. Although I still cared for him deeply, I couldn't bring myself back to that place because I had felt rejected in the past. Despite understanding his feelings at the time, it was too difficult for me.
I'm so glad you shared this because this is a fear of mine. I have a close long-time friend turned relationship not too long ago where he was very avoidant and it became hard to navigate as he wasn't this way in friendship. I even gave him the opportunity for an out a couple of times because I thought it was too much for him, but he wanted in. The issue was, when conflict would arise, he would shut down. We eventually decided to go back to friendship. We still love each other very much and I'm at the point where he could come in and offer me the world and I don't think I would accept because that abandoned feeling I felt when he would shut down was soul crushing and I don't want to feel that ever again. We did this for a few years and now I'm emotionally spent. But he will come back. That I know.

I’m one of the brave ones. I chose to do the work get therapy, challenge old beliefs, forgive myself and my ex. I refuse to go into my next marriage with anger in my heart. It’s best to Trust God, He loves me and will confirm as much as I need Him to. I refuse to ignore red flags again and compromise again. I wish I would have talked to God first especially when my emotions were so strong years ago. Single for years, waiting on God’s choice for me.✝️🙏🏽❤️
I knew he wasn't it in less than 30 days, but I wanted it to work so badly. I did ask God to let me know even though He already did from the beginning. When i tell you that thing imploded so fast 😂😂😂. Lost my friend, but knowing this side of him, i wouldn't want to be friends with him. I never saw this side of him.

This video is right on time! I went through this with a male friend i was friends with for a long time. We had reconnected a couple of years, but he was going through a divorce due to his now ex-wife giving up on the marriage. I figured he needed to heal from what he was going through because he still had triggers. We are cool but hardly talk. I said a prayer and kept it moving.

This message resonates more than you know. You got it all right. My good friend of over 20 years confessed he was in love with me. I was scared, but said why not as I've always had a secret thing for him. In hindsight, I think it def was a comfort thing for us. The way we made each other laugh and let ourselves be vulnerable was a beautiful thing.
However, your point about the triggers was spot on. I knew before I entered into it that since we both came from traumatic pasts that this might get difficult. It did. He would shut down anytime a conflict or issue arose, even something extremely small and fixable. It seems he could only handle the easy part of the relationship and in the end, I couldn't do that. We tried a few times while taking space in between, but decided on friendship in the end. We still love each other very much. We just couldn't make it past the honeymoon stage. 3 to 6 months in was it. We both still have growing to do and traumas to heal. I'm doing that work, but not sure if he can emotionally handle it, so while we'll always be in each other's lives, it will likely have to be as friends. ❤
Stephan... he was safe. You walked me through these last 6 months. We're now on no contact... almost 2 weeks. after 20yrs of friendship. Bible and therapy... now i see he does have narcissist traits. never would i ever. Trusting God. aware of my attachment style too. Refuse to create a false story behind him, rather let God deal with his son 🙏🏼

Good advice. Once upon a time I transitioned a friendship to more and we were very open with one another about the process. We were both at the tail end of healing and we helped one another grow although it wasn't a forever thing it was valuable and we've stayed friends after as well

OMG Stephan😱 How did you know? You've just described my 8 years marriage that went down into flame in one sentence. I did that just as you've mentioned in the video. My previous relationship was with an overt narcissist. Then, second relationship with a covert narcissist. I picked the 2nd one cause he was a level 8 and felt "safe" to be with. At the end, it cost me 8 years of waste, 2 beautiful boys, trauma, lost of identity and self-worth. The wake-up was brutal and after 3 months of seperation, I need to work on my healing and restoration.

How to create boundaries in terms of a potential distance relationship? Or how to discuss of such?
Soooo I did this, but before a relationship we knew I had some things to work on. He'd done the work (therapy, semen retention, etc.) but I was just starting to do those things. Now, a year in, I feel like he has pulled back because of me. I may have caused some confusion for him. I want to give him his space, although he has been patient. Smh. How do I treat him like my best friend again?
Stephan, would you please clarify what is meant by the word partner versus spouse? The word partner can take on various meanings depending on the relationship be it business or personal.
Another thing, I noticed sometime ago when I became single in 2016 and started dating in 2018 that the dynamics of dating has changed tremendously. It almost doesn’t seem normal as in times past. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why I am still single besides the fact that I like being single.

I’m seeing a man but he prefers sending messages instead of calling with video, we live in different cities and for me it’s not a good sign, I know he lives alone but it doesn’t help to build the emotional connection and I also believe that 5-10 min a day it might be enough, cause if he doesn’t have that desire to be closer with me, th see me then it might mean that he doesn’t truly interested in me, right?

I'm talking to a man from date site he lives 2 hrs away and he's 10 yrs younger we have great text conversation couple times talked phone he came see me once and now he's canceled couple times but says we will make it work he says he lives with 25 yr old daughter and 13 yr old daughter but only text few words 3 times a day and different times we don't talk long on phone I messaged him today saying I'm trying figure things out . I just don't know what intentions r I ask question but he answers one and it's not as important as others but yet we really text alot at certain times connecting so good I want know what ur thoughts r
He's inconsistent. He doesn't make you a priority because his attention is elsewhere. Great conversation means nothing when his actions leave you with lots of unanswered questions. You wouldn't have to text him about figuring things out if he was someone with good intentions. He would be very clear about his intentions with you and pursue you regardless of distance or children. Stop wasting your time. Respectfully 🙏🏾
I *can't stand* when they send me countless "funny" posts (that are actually boring at best), not noticing or even *ignoring* my lack of reactions and taking *forever* to ask me out on a real date. If women really had tOo hiGh sTaNdArDs, this wouldn't be happening. Definitely not as much as it does - not only to me.
