  • The African National Congress has been governing South Africa since 1994, when Nelson Mandela was elected president following the end of apartheid. But as voters get ready to go to the polls on May 29, the party known for its opposition to apartheid faces dissatisfaction from some citizens.

    I hope for the best for South Africa. Even though I understand I had hoped that the ANC would have been forced into a coalition government at least 20 years ago. Often South Africans (particularly white South Africans) claim that they are corrupt that is a rather lazy critique of the party and the government. Unfortunately most if not all nations have a certain degree of corruption the ANC’s problem has always been poor to no execution. They often know and put into place proper if not good policies but then they don’t follow through. And instead of holding those responsible accountable they just let them stay until they are pushed out due to the public outcry.
    My hope is that a coalition government will at least hold those appointed accountable. South Africa should be at least three times wealthier than it is and the majority Black population should be at least solidly middle class using international standards. Quite frankly if the infrastructure (including human capital) is dealt with that would accrue significant benefits within a few years.
    Call me an optimist but I think the people will work it out.

      As someone replied - if this is your view you most likely don’t live in South Africa. While I also am of the opinion that every government steals and our citizens are also aware of this, if u are a SA citizen you will know that the ANC doesn’t Simply steal 10% - 20% of taxpayers hard earned money- they loot state funds. They even create ghost companies. So it’s not a matter of “some” funds disappearing it’s the vast majority of taxpayers money that is being looted. In our country we have 62 million people and 7 million taxpayers of the 7 million taxpayers only 1.4 million are paying the top 4 brackets if tax soooooooo you can now understand why my fellow citizens are angry

      Do yourself a favor. Go watch the video again, but this time focus on the streets and the sidewalks. Look at what YOUR ANC has done so well - run the country to the ground. Then come back and delete this lazy and ignorant comment.

    • @noleenpillay6341
      @noleenpillay6341 Před měsícem +1

      Africa is a continent so northern Africa is comprised of certain countries much like east, west Africa. Southern Africa Africa is made up of 10 countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia,Mozambica etc and at the southernmost tip is our country called South Africa- we have our own elections that doesn’t involve any of the other countries so does this answer your question?
