60+ hr weeks and sometimes weekends??? I'm glad I'm in my 40s and can do half of that! But I've been through all the corporate work and now can choose my own time and work. But I also don't live in London, and never would want to go back to that insane corporate environment.
Very good advice (I am an older lawyer). I agree that as you get more senior although you have more control of your life (I can work whenever I like) you still are giving the clients what they want when they want it. One reason I am still doing all this at my age is because I have always tried to get enough sleep, have children, balance my life and it is still huge fun to practise law every day.

Try being a doctor, studied for 5 years at university after getting top a-levels and getting into the most competitive course in the country. Only to be paid £40k on graduation, £46k in my second year. Now in my 3rd year and I only make £55K whilst working 40hr/week.

That’s called public interest. Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, meaning the higher the public interest, the more money invested into it = higher pay, bigger contracts and sponsorships. The same goes with law firms, the higher the interest in clients to work with a law firm, the more work = higher fees and higher bonuses, more pay for the law firm. It’s really not that difficult to understand. Your example between a lawyer and a sports renowned professional is a bad example. Even a top cricket, tennis or even rugby player will get paid more than a typical corporate lawyer. Im not sure what your argument is. Blame the public interest on why footballers get paid so much. It’s called business, otherwise the money ends up going to the owners (who are renowned as snakey and dodgy businessman anyway in the football world).

Market makers at LME firms from Essex were on £500,000 per year out of secondary school . I was there. It’s not difficult to comprehend if you do your research properly and have the experience. The simpleton version. Lawyers get paid about £40 per hour when you get your calculator out . After 5 years of Tertiary Study . Still unsure ? Pay isn’t all its cracked up to be .

Painters and decorators would fall in that catergory because they probably had good chat and communication when it comes to sales. Also the 1980s was probably the peak when it came to money broking, Fx etc, it was new to the market and everyone wanted a piece of it, again market interest. You go where the market is. Accountants are the equivalent of the lawyers except you guys enjoy, reading more and get paid more. I feel like I went into the wrong field LOL.

I am not so sure. I get totally engrossed in my legal work, "flow", as happy doing that as any of my hobbies.
