I know I'm years late to the party, but I wanted to say thank you for this video. I just found out about doom mods from AVGN covering Brutal Chex Quest. This video helped me get some mods for my whole family. My son is loving Squares Adventure, and my brother (who is autistic and a life-long fan of Sonic) is loving Sonic Roboblast 2. I used to play MM8BDM back in 2013 on a daily basis. The Doomseeker servers were so well-populated and had such a varied amount of server mods like Vs Saxton Hale, Roleplay Hotels, Classes TDM, Co-op levels, lobstacle courses, etc... Now it's hard to find a real server with actual people on it. The only ones that still have players are the Classes Team Last Man Standing, and Roleplay Hotels, but the latter just doesn't have the same magical touch as it did when I was 12.
No Project Brutality or HDoom? You should've gone full "Unknown good mods" mode, mate, because I only heard about Reelism and Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch on another DooM Mod Channel.
Have you ever played or heard of the "Russian Overkill" mod? If not, you really should play it, it has weapons that can cause nuclear fallout pretty much.
@@lighthouserock3014 what about abort? it has an abort button (that crashes the game) and the hat from “are you big enough?” also, if you use the abort button while wearing the hat it will not crash the game, but GZDOOM (or whatever program you’re using to play it) itself
Wow. I'm very impressed. I'm surprised I didn't know about the Sonic MOD considering that I use to be really involved in what I guess we could have called a MOD community back in the late 90's. @Manek Iridius In Complex doom -> try custom maps. It's amazingly fun to challenge the super/gold enemies. Try also Russian overkill on map Go for it (map 32 in Plutonia). One of my favorite doom maps ever. So fun and challenging.
I'm currently considering using GZdoom to make a video game of my own, i'm considering something that looks like Elder Scrolls 1/2, and plays like Fallout 3, with a post apocalyptic aesthetic.

I loved Doom in 1993, I loved on the 32X Doom, Jaguar's Doom, Doom 2, Doom wads, more wads, Ultimate Doom, Doom on the N64, Doom for the PSX, did I mention wads...yeah them too, I loved Doom 3, Doom 3 expansions, more Doom wads, Doomsday Kickstarter, Brutal Doom, Nuts Doom, Doom on the Xbox One X in 4K...yep that too. Doom 2016 was an excellent return to form and I have played it on the PS4, PSPRO, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and PC. I used to make wads when I was a kid. I'm thinking about making a return to the scene. I am doing a massive Doom run and will continue after dinner. I started with original Doom on my Xbox One X on Ultra Violence. I'm on the last chapter of the original set of episodes released back in 1993. After which, I'm going to run through the extra episode included with the game and move right on up to Doom 2 (I originally bought them for my Xbox 360 many years ago as I wanted the achievements). Then I will play Doom on the Atari Jaguar and onto the PlayStation (through my 60-gig PS3). From there I will move to the PC for Doom 3 action. Once completed, I will be back to the Xbox One X to play through Doom 2016. Finally, back to PC for all the mods I can handle. I'm so happy my fiancee is a diehard gamer like me. We have the best setup in our home. We have two 4K UHD's with two of every console including the enhanced, so we can both play at the same time!

Robo blast 2.. my friend in school loved playing that during lunch on his computer and I loved watching him play. I remember how he blew my mind by showing me it was just doom... I cried a bit seeing it again because as I was watching it I was reminded of him. He died months ago due to a car accident so seeing that ppl liked it made me smile.

I didn't expect Mm8bdm to be on this list. I think a lot more people should play it. It doesn't even require you to have Doom. Though, you do not play as Mega Man; which is evident by the fact that Mega Man is in the game as another character. You actually play as a character named Maestro, a robot with an unknown creator and purpose.
I think you should also look at Doom 4 Doom 2 (D4D)...it includes awesome 2d recreations of the 3d modeled weapons of Doom(2016) and all of the weapon upgrades and suit upgrades as well as sprite models of the enemies of Doom (2016).......i play it alot since i cant run Doom(2016) on my laptop ;)
If you're on Android and it tells you that you need an app, I set it to desktop mode on Firefox and it no longer told me that, that app busted in so many ways that for some downloads it literally won't even show up, not to mention it won't let me log back in or make a new account

Actually thanks to GZDOOM, the reason a Sonic fan game exists is because third person in Doom is basically cheating, especially with the ability to jump. Fuck it you could get a mod that lets you double jump. THAT WASN'T IN THE ORIGINAL DOOM!
Brutal doom/project brutality are one of my favorite mods for doom but there are also mods I like besides brutal doom like such as: Meta doom ( a mod that combines elements from doom1/2, 3, 64, RPG, and 2016) Russian overkill(the name pretty much explains it) Guncaster( you play as a badass anthropomorphic dragon that uses spells and guns that can absolutely destroy dooms enemies need I say more) And Doom 4 doom ( takes elements from Doom 2016 and adds them to the original doom changing the weapons enemies etc)
I've seen plenty of mod videos talking about mods you must try, but I have yet to see a video or list of the most essential mods that a fledgling doom modder shouldn't play without.
Why most people are trollish and keep suggesting Moonman and HDoom? What's next, you guys are going to suggest terrywads? In all honesty, Prodoomer should have been in this list, but of course the mod is made 1-2 years after he made the video.

I do have love for mapsets. In fact I consider the mapset Scythe 2 to be about on par in quality with DOOM2. It's especially great with GMOTA. Things is that I considered this video to be a video mostly for new people to help get them excited with DOOM modding. So I decided to stress uniqueness and ease of play. In my mind I would love to recommend things like Guncaster, Russian Overkill, GMOTA, Possess Me and others but I wanted to show people just how far DOOM modding can go and how vibrant it is. Also thanks. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
It's cool man, i know people sometimes wants to see this kind of stuff on old games. But, they will somehow need to play at least some of the mapsets the community made with or without the mods, so they can also enjoy how far the level design in Doom is experimented and evolved with the variety of themes the mapsets has to offer.

Wolfenstein tc. It is a full remaster of the original Wolfenstein 3D in the gzdoom engine.
I've seen plenty of mod videos talking about mods you must try, but I have yet to see a video or list of the most essential mods that a fledgling doom modder shouldn't play without.

In all honesty, Prodoomer should have been in this list, but of course the mod is made 1-2 years after he made the video.

I do have love for mapsets. In fact I consider the mapset Scythe 2 to be about on par in quality with DOOM2. It's especially great with GMOTA. Things is that I considered this video to be a video mostly for new people to help get them excited with DOOM modding.
So I decided to stress uniqueness and ease of play. In my mind I would love to recommend things like Guncaster, Russian Overkill, GMOTA, Possess Me and others but I wanted to show people just how far DOOM modding can go and how vibrant it is.

It's cool man, i know people sometimes wants to see this kind of stuff on old games.
But, they will somehow need to play at least some of the mapsets the community made with or without the mods, so they can also enjoy how far the level design in Doom is experimented and evolved with the variety of themes the mapsets has to offer.

Um megaman deathmatch kinda active... every Friday there is a huge spike in megaman players. It gets into the 50s. Which is huge for doom
