I discovered Diana Krall for myself in late-August 1998. Celebrating twenty-four years of appreciating the lady right at this moment; August 17, 2022. The lady is all that you state and so much more. By the end of October 1998 I had gotten everything which she'd recorded to that point. I especially like The Diana Krall Trio with Russell Malone and Christian McBride.
Everything Diana does is like an intimate magic carpet ride. She is made of music through and through. The "nearer to the beach at night" thing was a cool "departure"! Outstanding band too of course!
What a beautiful rendition by Diana Krall---what talent---and I love the fast moving jazz ! I had a hard time just finding a background track---But I did---and sang it on CZcams---I'm 85---expect to keep trying !
Me too, and I'm only 71. I love this song and do it in the original G, Eb if I'm feeling a little low and Db in my favourite situation: below a beautiful woman (by an octave in a duet).
@@MarkBlackburnWPG You're more than welcome Mark. So glad I'm not the only one who remembers this old song. Didn't even have to learn this one. I've known it for many years. The music studio where I recorded it is closed now because of Covid 19. Don't know when I'll record again.
@@harrybolster7928 I have sang this song a few times at the only karaoke bar that has the original TD track and as long as we are all throwing around ages; I am 44. I much prefer the old classics over the newer garbage that folks are passing off as music these days. God bless you all and may the younger generations keep the love of this era in music alive! My 21 year old son is posting himself singing the old Sinatra standards on Facebook. He was misguided for a spell in the hip-hop trash up until I introduced him to real music. He is a true lover of old jazz now. I couldn't be more proud! We, as stewards of old, proper music, must not allow this beautiful music to fade away into obscurity. It is just so nice to know that, even today, this music can still be appreciated by the youngsters. Cheers! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@windborne8795 Hi Shanghaied -- Thanks for your very supportive comment--yes I do want to see the old music live on. Like you, I began with karaoke and then started singing on CZcams, where I first memorized each background track, lyrics and melody. Then I sang each song without reading anything. My 89 years has not slowed me down, but COVID has made music studios for me to record in very difficult to find, so far. East Of The Sun is one of the songs I remember from childhood and is included in the over 70 songs I sing on CZcams. Two other favorites I sing are Stardust and Folsom Prison Blues. Thanks again ! Glad to see your U.S. Flags--I'm a Vet.
What a wonderful way to start the day! Smoky, inspiring, it takes me outside of myself. This music is an amazing gift from an artist amazingly gifted! Thank you for expanding my world.
Kenny Barron, Johnny O'Neal or Benny Green would be closer to Oscar Peterson's playing statically than any other piano players alive hands down. However, she is a good piano player.
I love this song. I just recently heard this version. I've been playing piano 50 years and will add this to my repertoire. Love the arrangement, especially after the bass solo and the song kicks in. Dammmn! diana your piano playing is superb. I wonder if you are familiar with the poem, 'East of the Sun, west of the Moon'.
What a fantastic track and I'm in absolute awe of the gentleman playing the double bass, being just a hack playing bass myself. I love the sound of a double bass, beauty to my ears. Thank you Sir.
The only song from a Princeton Triangle Club show ever to make the Hit Parade. The composer, Princeton class of 1936, was killed in an auto accident (on Route 66?) on the way to a career in Hollywood.
Just watched this 7 times in an row. Had front row tickets to her concert in Atlantic City a few years ago, she wasn’t feeling well(I know because the tour manager told me so, I worked at the venue at the time) but she was amazing even still! It wasn’t awesome to me though, because I had front row seats, and I could only see her head throughout most of her performance as she was at the piano! 🤣😅 never getting front row tickets again! She was amazing! Had the flu, and still did almost two hours! Brava ! Ms. Krall
East of the sun and west of the moon We’ll build a dream house of love dear Near to the sun in the day near to the moon at night We’ll live in a lovely way dear Living on love and pale moonlight Just you and I forever and a day Love will not die we’ll keep it that way Up among the stars we’ll find A harmony of life to a lovely tune East of the sun and west of the moon dear East of the sun and west of the moon.
+Al Lime I couldn't agree more. We saw her at Red Rocks about 7 years ago, 2008 I think, anyway it was raining and eventually had to call it off short to save her ivories but damn, what a beautiful night that was. Such eloquence, her delivery, nothing short of heaven divine!!! She literally takes my breath away! Much love and thanks to Diana for sharing her gift and inspiration ~
She has everything doesn't she! "All yummm" as Ed puts it so well. Also all talent! Lovely swinging, understated jazz, intimate voice, that mysterious smile, so cool, like Nat Cole never deigning to look at the keyboard, . Big repertoire too - early Crosby (There ain't no sweet man), Fats Waller etc. etc.
Lyrics : East of the sun and west of the moon We'll build a dream house of love dear Close to the sun in the day Near to the moon at night We'll live in a lovely way dear Sharing our love in the pale moonlight Just you and I, forever and a day Love will not die; we'll keep it that way Up among the stars we'll find a harmony of life to a lovely tune East of the sun and west of the moon dear East of the sun and west of the moon
I am a punk rock fan and I love this song because when I have a throbbing headache I can't listen to a band like Operation ivy I have to listen to something smooth like this
'What a rhythm section supporting Diana... I used to catch these super talented Cats in several LA jazz supper clubs
A truly great upbeat version of this classic Princeton Triangle Club show tune of the 1920's . She makes this tune sing all over again ...thanks,
I've been following Krall's work since the 90s - she's one of the best and this is her best combo group -- all first class musicians.
She can’t sing not bad on the johanna
I agree! It's lovely listening to her. She's like the Blossom Dearie of the 60s. Love it~

Thank God someone has memory of Great Songs!!!!!!!!
Never ever get tired of playing this ballad-one of very very favorites
I love how much fun they’re having. It’s infectious!
She's sublime. Fantastic group.
This is one of her best songs!
The more harmony, jazz feeling and improvisation the best your performance is. Well done Diana !
That look she gave the drummer after putting a little sauce on his playing was priceless. She had to hold back from cracking up.
John Clayton, what a boss. That guy feels it in his bones.
you´re so right... absolute brilliant!!! i wish the guy editing the video would have seen it the same way an showed us more of the great bassman...
I am so writing it down and playing. Although I like this one more (also John Clayton): czcams.com/video/HZJ6EtEKBfE/video.html
Although the piano solo is unbeatable there...
Diana Krall is one of the great singers. I'm a Diana Krall fan of her music. This is one of her great songs, too.
Great vocal with this old jazz tune. Diana is backed by 3 of the best musicians in this current era.
Yup!
You are so right William.
Regards,
Tony.
William L Robinson who's the other two?
Antony Wilson G. John Clayton B. Jeff Hamilton D.
Tony.
Anthony Partridge absolutely!💝💝💝
These four musicians are in a TOTAL groove with each other. I don't think it would be humanly possible for Jeff to swing harder on the trap kit.
...the thing 'bout...much jazz, it's so...zen...like wind... water...
This is my ring tone, I love Diana Krall!!!!
way to relax!!! after a busy day...beautiful Diana, one of my fav jazz singers
Her beauty, and voice are equally fantastic.
Jazz @ its BEST....love this song!
I love this rendition of East of the Sun! Glad to see it back on youtube!
I love how there are 300,000+ views, 400+ likes and zero dislikes. There is apparently nothing to dislike about this video.
Just for the record, I registered a dislike.
OMG Diana Krall you are so blessed.
Diana swings so effortlessly ..I love this about her ...
Diana Krall. She just makes me feel better. She is such a blessing. Thank God.
The simple truth -- expressed in so few words. Thanks, Lizzette Lavin.
Great older jazz song by a singer / musician I love!
I love her old school feel. I think she would of fit perfectly with the 50s style of music.
Diana makes this Jazz Standard really move. Excellent version!
Don't you just love the infectious groove musicians create where forgotten lyrics become the running joke that adds to the mix! (See 3:10 - 3:20)
Ha ha! She did a good impromptu!
"... nearer to the beach at night" ... great lyrics change :-D
This version is truly inspiring, we studied several versions to make our own, and this one takes a very important place in our hearts.
Sooooo good!!!! ❤️🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
no one ever better.....

Swings like a gate............. I adore what she does, so groovy.
What a fabulous lady...what a fabulous musician!! Love her music!!!!
Have just become a huge fan, the lady rocks my soul and listen to her all the time,

Diana, has a magical presence what a talent !
Wonderful !!
Gorgeous! It's like this version is what Brooks Bowman had in mind when he wrote this tune so many years ago! Bravo Diana & Band!!!
Thanks for the informed comment about who wrote this one (words & tune) -- Brooks Bowman.
Diana Krall is the closest pianist stylistically to Oscar Peterson, in my opinion. This is an amazing talent.
The simple truth. And Oscar loved her to bits! Thanks for your note, Tim R.
Kenny Barron, Johnny O'Neal or Benny Green would be closer to Oscar Peterson's playing statically than any other piano players alive hands down. However, she is a good piano player.
❤
I'd die for her smile @ 3:15...
yeah what a beautiful smile - it's for the bassist
Waw .... from Greece
I have already been to 2 concerts of her and I wish to go again! Thanks Diana for your music... Sublime :)

If I can hear this before I pass away all will be good 🙏
Just adore her voice!!
The lovely & talented Diana Krall - best part being my very favorite jazz drummer, Jeff Hamilton. This is swing, people.
I wasn't sure if it was Hamilton, but now I'm. One of my favorite drummer too.
just gotta love her ! awesome! pure Gilly!
i envy her talent. watch her performance on apollo, playing fly me to the moon. she did the comping, walking bass, even solo while singing. damn!
