Yamaha Aerox 155 | Can It Tour? | Review | PowerDrift

  • The Yamaha Aerox 155 is a big scooter by Indian standards. But with big numbers comes bigger expectations. One of them is touring abilities, especially because of the maxi-scooter tag being attached to it. Just like with the Aprilia SXR 160, but the Aerox makes more power, and has VVA. So, Shumi went out on the Aerox 155 to find out if it can tour.

I wouldn't mind the fuel tank size really, a 5ltr with 42-45kmpl is equivalent of a 12ltr 15-20kmpl. Other than that, for a general college going kid who skips classes for small touring on Activa, this is a great upgrade.

No it is not that practical as we think, they say it's 5 ltr but for fuel pump you need to have atleast 1.5 ltr in your tank... That's means the actual tank capacity becomes 3.5 , according to my experience with grazia bs6 I have to fill it every 120 kms so for aerox it might be 90 - 100 kms for next fillup

Touring on a scooter is absolutely possible. I know a guy who regularly (& religiously the guy was an ascetic). Almost a decade ago I was at a friend/relative's place for a function and one of his cousin's came. That guy was starting his almost yearly tour of India in a TVS Wego IIRC. He was featured at least in Kerala news when he reached at the venue of a yaga at Bhadrachalam, AP on his way back from Himalayas. This was in 2012.

Hi guys. Anyways, as one person put it perfectly and I'd quote Phil collen from Def Leppard, " it's not about which guitar you use and which Amp you use. It is the intention that matters". He also wrote a fantastic line in his book " I've changed every luxury car out there and splurged money. Then I've realized it is not about the car, rather its about the memories associated and I've been using my BMW x3 for more than 12 years".
This is true. I've done long tours on my 2013 Honda aviator (60k kms already) than fancy bikes. It is 8hp at peak power. Maximum 80kmph but that's just asking too much and it gobbles petrol. Sweetspot is 60kmph. I've driven on horrible roads in my state telangana, went to karnataka etc. Just last month rode 515kms in a day (spiritual trip to kaleshwaram, 272 kms from Hyderabad) and back home safe.
Wonderful memories. That's all it matters.

I owned ntorq for 2 years. I just rented and rode Aerox for 2 days. I would say ntorq is just barely better than any other scooter in the segment.
But Aerox is just next level when it comes to perforrmance. You feel the difference in pull and the increased comfort of bigger wheels. It feels like riding a bike rather than scooter. Also, the engine is silky smooth. No scratching type starting sound of scooter. Vibration is also non existant. It feels like an electric scooter. Ordinary scooters seems like crying for power with their tiny engines but Aerox feels like the perfect optimal level of power a scooter must have to not cry.
Practiciality maybe better with ntorq, but everything else Aerox is best. I loved riding it. Only thing I missed is the lack of hand-brake on Aerox and also lack of "lower dipped" headlight switch. I also missed the ability to keep foot properly

Can't say 5 litre is a negative because of Fuel Economy. Because 40+ on high rpms, 45+ on average conditions and 50km/l on highways is pretty descent. Because with that kind of mileage 5 litre fuel tank will not be a problem.

Finally, the review we been waiting for. I would say this is a near sweet tourer scooter. What I need is better fuel capacity, suspension setup, and duel channel ABS. The braking is a weak point of this Scooter, and for highways I rather wait (and pray) for an upgrade. Also, request Powerdrift team to review the suspension upgrade option of Aerox, especially for touring need, and if it's worth a 17k upgrade.

I had accidents due to panic braking on my Honda aviator while I was figuring out and Hyderabad city roads (idiotic traffic sense). I understood my scooter now. It's a charm. 2 fingers on front brake, 2 on the combi brake I.e. on the left side. With bikes, you need all 4 fingers for clutch I guess. With scooters, 2 fingers on the left side are enough (depending on situation). But on the right side, 2 fingers are a must. I know some ride with middle finger only. Hope it helps. 🍻

It all happens in split seconds. if all 5 fingers (entire palm) is on the throttle, then braking becomes a deadly proposition. Within a fraction of a second, the wrist position should change and it is impossible physically to do that. I have a habit of learning things through observation both in the city and on the highway. bro even i have an aerox ....i actually test a lot of 2 wheelers so ill give u a rough idea to improve your PURCHASE DECISION
if u want a day to day scooty with comfort: Activa/jupiter
day to day scooty with speed: ntorq
day to day scooty with comfort speed and a big size : burgman
a sports bike in a body of a scooty for highways and smooth roads: aerox
i wont reccomend aprrilia scooters as they are overpriced and underperforming
also i would say if u are spending above 1.2 lakhs on a scooty then pls just buy a bike like apache rtr 1604v or depending upon your needs
ALSO!! REVOLT RV400 IS A BEST BUY EV WITH SPEED COMFORTS LOOKS BUILD SAFE AND RANGE IS AWESOME

Please stick to maximum left on hills. While you probably do it for a shoot there are likely young punks who misthink it's alright to ride all over the road on the hills.

    Hey,
Is Yamaha planning to give a softer suspension.
I would love to buy one... But holding back due to stiff suspension set up.
If I buy it then, I will be using it in city only.,.. Not for touring purpose....
Hope it will offered with a softer suspension in the near future....

    I was refused a test-ride.(AEROX 155)
    Reality Check!!!
As of now September 24, 2023.
still more than a year since the launch of Aerox-155, There is availability issue and 6-7 months waiting period on Aerox 155 😂. Not only that due to this shortage, as well as long waiting, the price showroom quoted was also a lot more.... I was quoted 1.79-1.8. So yeah, in reality, Aprilia is your only and best option, unless you are reallllly into Yamaha, want to spend that high for lesser practicality, ride comfort and yet wait so long eventually bumping price again.
Oh wait, did I mentioned, I was refused a test-ride as well??? so you will spend almost 2 lakhs based on on-paper spec and just video reviews.
    Good luck getting this!!

It is obvious this scooter won't sell in decent numbers. It would stand as an option for the few takers at the Yamaha stables. XSR155 was a big expectation here & they felt it won't do good in sales & did not bring it. But then they brought Aerox thinking it wud sell... funny...!
