@@SIGSOLO nice I just had a *vintage razor RAD attack* and bought a Fatboy, two Slim adjustable’s and a 1946-47 (unnotched) Gold aristocrat. This all started last week when I found my first vintage Gillette in an antique shop for $20. I shaved with my Fatboy however it seems inconsistent and probably needs a plate alignment. I’m hoping my two slim adjustable’s are in better *shaving shape* as I’d rather have a pretty good shave than a pretty looking razor. I’m excited for the 46-47 aristocrat and it appears in great shape and the seller says also good working condition

I’ve bought quite a few of razors online (Ebay) and so far I’ve been lucky with the razors I’ve received…
I haven’t gotten a Gold Aristocrat, But it’s my short-list…

Me neither but I will tomorrow when mine gets delivered… my Fatboy has plate alignment issues (quarter turn isn’t there) I think. When my two slim adjustable’s get here I’ll have a point of reference.
Nice shave Sig and comparison between the Fatboy and Slim razors. My Slim is a little more aggressive than my Fatboy at the same setting. Interesting setup for storing the razor blades. You picked up some nice new soaps, I really enjoy the Haverford soap. Have a wonderful weekend Brother

I find the Slim a little more aggressive, too. They both have less blade-feel than the Black Beauty, at least with my technique (or maybe lack-of)
The balde storing system works great for me. I'll naver have the same mistake is I did with the Lupo and the GC a few weeks back...
I'll give the Haverford a go on my TTTO 11.

Yes the scent just take me back to the time with-out worries or heat-ache!! Moderate Menthol feeling; just like I prefer it.
I have never gotten to check the AC/DC album. I kind of stopped after the Who Made Who album, where their sound (or maybe my need for it) changed...

I agree soaking a badger brush 10min gives it better layering performance IMO…. especially a boar brush IMO (semogue 830) again YMMV
I like the Slim more than the Fatboy, and love my 109 Super Adjustable more than both of these. All 3 quality razors, but the 109 being more aggressive gives me the smoother shave with less effort.

Of the three I prefer the Slim, then Black Beauty and Fatboy. One of my favorites is my Senator and various Tech razors. All in all, I just love vintage Gillette razors.

@@SIGSOLO I found a honey hole of vintage Gillette razors today at a antique shop. The store owner had about 200 random razors in a couple boxes. He told me he has a bunch in original boxes set aside that I am going to look at tomorrow. I'm hoping he has some models I don't already have so I can round out my collection. Realistically, I'll probably come home with 20 razors tomorrow. 👍🪒

Yes, I was also rooting for the Slim. But I have to be honest and call like it is on the day. The credit card case storage work great for me. No more bad shaves with dull blades!!
As for the coffee I really like the darker roast that has a rounded back taste of cane sugar/brown sugar...

I love the Ball End Tech! I’m trying to get one from every country it was produced in. So far I have: USA, England, Mexico, France, Germany. I’m looking for Canada and Argentina…

I have a 1960 Fatboy, and a 1961 slim, both in excellent shape. I switch back and forth. I find that the Fatboy shaves 1 click more aggressive than the slim. The Fatboy on 4, is the same as the slim on 5. Looks like you had the same result. My favourite is the slim as it is more maneuverable with the longer handle and slimmer head. The Fatboy has more weight, but the slim has a longer lever with the long handle, and high center of gravity.

I love both of these razors.
I always felt that the slim was slightly smoother somehow.
Funny thing is I loved my slim so much I never used it much until I found another one in the wild, so I actually have hundreds if not thousands of shaves on the fatboy(it was my main razor for years) and only dozens on the slim lol.
Crazy world.

I have the opposite story from yours. I've used the Slim many times as it is one of my favourite adj. razors. I got the Fatboy in December, but didn't use it until three weeks ago for the first time. The Rhodium palting just made me fear that I would destroy the gorgeous look of it. But, man!! It's a nice razor and it's growing on me; like the Ball End Tech; or collecting different one rather. I've always love the BE Tech and have started collecting them from all the countries they've been made in...The BE Tech is usually much cheaper except when you try to find the South American ones..... They can be pricey.
I'm looking to see if you'll make a comparison between the two. I think your result will be different given your barb wire beard.. LOL!!

Now that you mention techs, my favorite and the favorite of many is the pre war tech with the triangle lather slots, it is a little more aggressive(not aggressive just more efficient then the regular tech)!
I would possibly trade all of my razors to keep that one, it would be a tough choice between a few of them though lol

That’s interesting about the Slim being slightly smoother… I find I get better shaves usually with lighter or head heavy razors. I think I’ll like the slim better when it gets here. I think my Fatboy needs a guard alignment, also it doesn’t have the last locking quarter turn. I only shaved twice with it but it seemed more efficient on one side that the other. I bought two Slim adjustable’s 62 and 66 I think that seem to be in great shape, so I’ll know more when they get here.

#1. Random and Not Random at the same time: I have a "Van Dyke" beard. It was/is part of my Covid 19 Furlough Experiment. I am not really capable of growing a full, thick beard but I was curious what I'd look like with one. I decided on the Van Dyke; problem is-Kanye West and Chris Rock also tended to wear Van Dykes(or variants thereof) and I dislike both of them. I didn't want anyone to compare me to either one(especially Kanye). So, I removed the side bars and kept the hair on my chin along with a mustache(which is NEVER leaving). How is all of this relevant to your Focus Shave No 16.?
#2. I will remove the beard on the chin this coming Monday. I will use, wait for it, drumroll please, Black Beauty 109 with the Black Plastic base plate although I have my trusty Sanguine R5 Shavette on standby...Also, just in Italian Barber is IRISH Countryside Shaving Cream Soap. I have grown tired of not knowing what Green Irish Tweed is supposed to smell and I've heard and read this soap is a version of that. Plus, I like Italian Barber merchandise and the soap was on sale. I also have big sampler bag of blades from Tryablade.com and I may pick a blade I've never used before to add to the adventure.
#3. I had horrendous traffic problems on I 95(south of DC)and the car decided to have a breakdown while I hours from home. I am still stressed. So, that's it for today. Sayonara.
The Covid 19 has had us do the strangest things. ;O) I think you got of easy with a Van Dyke!! It could have been knitting, porcelain painting or even as crazy as putting pineapple of the pizza!!
I made a shaving channel and got myself 80 razors, 80 soaps and 55 brushes... Not to mention the splashes, balm and cremes. All topped with 4500 blades... ;O)
- I'd like a 109 with diamond knurled handle... That'll have to wait as my love for Ball End Techs has gotten me searching for Ball End Techs from every country it was ever made. Techs are not that expensive except when we e.g. talk about the South American and German ones. They are pricey. I'm not picky as to condition, but that might come once I have them all...;O)
