Western Railway Museum Showcase Weekend 2023: A Plethora of Traction | 5/27-28/23

- Over Memorial Day Weekend 2023, the Western Railway Museum held their annual Museum Showcase event. This year there were lots of interesting consists and equipment out including SN 654 with SN 1632, Key System Wrecker 1011, MUNI Rail Grinder 0109, and the museum's newest acquisition, LAMTA 164. All the cars that were operating over the weekend are seen in the video, and the whole history of electric transit and interurban operations in California are seen first hand in stunning cinematic 4K!
This was the first outing for my Lumix G95, which is now my main video camera, and this video is sure to entertain both the full fledged traction enthusiast, as well as the casual railfan.

Not a freight motor, a MOW car. Not exactly sure what purpose, but there is a film of it helping to pull up the Key System's electrification.

Thank you for sharing this footage! This is a high-quality video recording with excellent framing and editing. It is so great to see old-time vehicles from the Key System along with the modern standard gauge siblings from the San Diego Trolley Metropolitan Transit System. This is prompting me to plan a trip to the Museum.

Interesting spent much time at WRM some volunteer before travel time and other commitments took over Muni 178 very familiar.

Imagine my surprise to see a W Class tram there from my hometown.
Wonderful memories. There are fewer and fewer of us who remember riding these wonderful machines when they were in full service. The ‘B’ car to highschool; the ‘F’ train to visit Grandmother, who took 10 year old me from Berkeley to downtown Oakland on the # 5 Telegraph trolley. Lovely-thanks much.

This was over 2 days, and there were at least 3 that didn’t run over that weekend
The coupling rods on works car 1011 are unusual. Was this car only used in reserved right of ways (ie not on the road?) otherwise I’d have expected they’d have a guard or cover to protect pedestrians like out steam trams did
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚝🚞🛤 especially antique streetcars 🚊🚋 and interurban cars like all of those. He thinks they are highly underrated forms of public transportation and should be preserved, restored, and put back into service. He also thinks that old interurban lines should be rebuilt and used again he really believes that they could still have their uses today running between cities that they would cut down on traffic and pollution and would a very fun and interesting ride. But he doesn't like wind turbines he says they spoil the scenery and wishes that they would either be replaced with fuel cells or redesigned to look like antique windmills or weather vanes or anemometers.
Antique windmills caused the near extinction of local Golden Eagles which is why they were redesigned.

@@shreychaudhary4477 Fuel cells create electricity and heat from chemical reactions and not combustion.
@@gretchenchadwick8343 What sort of chemical reactions would there be? And what about when those chemicals run out? Wouldn't you need to use energy to separate them again?

I did, just didn’t photograph, I was also a motorman at the museum for 3 years, so I’ve seen our line quite a bit, and have that posted in an earlier video on WRM, plus you can’t see the train if you are on that train!

And let's see my parts collection consists of two role signs from a bridge unit one that goes by The doors, one that goes under the motorman's window and the headlight. Also have the bell from a 350 class streetcar and the controller handle from a market Street Railway car

Well let's see of the things shown in this video the only ones I have not run would be the 1005, both lrvs, the number 7, the 0109 that's about it everything else I have run within the first time I ran something was the 178 that would have been before the host of the video was born I'm sure by a long shot since that was about 1973
