It is great. I have been practicing 72-hour fasting for 4 years. I can share unexpected results. I had had a bad record of visiting medical doctors and use of medicines for food allergy. Now I have never used medicines on allergy anymore. In Cambodia, I am called Mr. 72 hours. I am happy to have some experiment of my cells.

I have suffered from Asthma for most of my life and since fasting I haven't needed any asthma medications. I noticed the change only 2 weeks in, and still to this day I am medication free, even during exertive exercise which is a first. It is a joy not having to worry about an attack, although I still carry Ventolin around with me in case.

They should even compare non-meat eaters whose foods source were grown with pesticides/gmos and those who weren’t. Meat eaters eating grass fed animals (natural diet of the animals they are consuming) vs those whom consume meat high in grain diets. We already know meat isn't great in western countries given the animals are given tons of grains spiking their omega 6 levels which is dangerous, hence why they gain weight easily. Ironically, high omega 6 diets in humans (which include vegetable/seed oils plus grain fed animals) cause the same weight gain 😆.

This explains a lot why grandfather is the only individual who is free of any conditions. He has his entire life fasted for various hindu religious reasons. He also followed 1day a week fasting his entire life. He quit at 95 because it was very difficult I guess it must be age or new grains weighing down his health. We kinda quit on this concept few decades ago thinking its religion nonsense, but glad to know it is actually helpful and nice to see the science behind it.

I really appreciate the final warning to other clinicians that this field of research is not ready for diagnostic application! It is so rare for scientists to acknowledge something like that, and so important. Bravo!!
(Side note: personally I've been doing careful 5-day water fasts once a month for a year now. No other changes in lifestyle, location or diet. I have lost 35 pounds of fat, and 10 inches from my waistline, with no loss of muscle. The first few fasts were difficult but my body has adapted to doing this every month and no longer punishes me with side effects during the fast. I do increase my water intake by 30% and take vitamin pills for potassium, magnesium and zinc, plus I consume sodium chloride salt. These videos have been very helpful for maintaining motivation and mood during each fast, so thank you very much for producing them. Please continue!)

I've recently started to fast once a week for 24 hours, and I love it! The longest I've gone is 5 days, but my preference is 2 to 3. I find it really helps reduce the bloating and gas situation for me; colon cancer runs in my family, and it killed my mom when she was only 52. I like to drink salt water (generally pink Himalayan) and sometimes will have a cup or two of herbal tea. I tried consuming bone broth during a fast once, and that was a terrible idea. I like to _break_ a fast with bone broth though. Followed by lean meats. I think it's because I follow an animal-based ketogenic diet. So the salt water is usually all I need for such a short fast. And the herbal tea if I feel something is lacking.

I have been doing intermittent fasting for eight years now, between 18-24h every day. I also do a longer (48-72h) at least every other month, sometimes every month.
About a year ago I switched to a animal based diet and sometimes do strict carnivore. When it comes to mood, I can attest that it is much better. My patience with my kids (7 and 5yo today) has increased with about 500% I would say. 😂
I hope more people realize the benefits of fasting!

Thank you for your question! In this video, Dr. Mesnage means with long-term fasting a 10-day fast according to the Buchinger Wilhelmi method. Besides unlimited amounts of mineral water, guests who are fasting are offered herbal teas, freshly made vegetable consommés and freshly pressed fruit juices - naturally all organic. Fasting begins with a light vegetarian meal on the day you arrive followed by a digestive rest day. After you have completed the fast, you gradually build up your nutrition again over a period of four days - an intense and pleasurable experience and one which is vital for the success of your stay in the long term.

Hello and thanks for the comment. Fasting means that the metabolism switches from glucose to fat and ketone consumption, causing many beneficial effects.
At the Buchinger Wilhelmi clinics the main focus is on long-term fasting (5, 10, 15, 20 days or more).
The Buchinger Wilhelmi programme is built around the fasting method developed by the clinic’s founder Dr. Otto Buchinger (1878 - 1966). This method has been honed continually over generations and in cooperation with university research centres. Our programme is designed to preserve, promote and restore your health.
Besides unlimited amounts of mineral water, guests who are fasting are offered herbal teas, freshly made vegetable consommés and freshly pressed fruit juices - naturally all organic.

A very interesting presentation. it is very obvious that this field is complex and requires more study. The presenter did not state how long "long-term fasting" was. Does 20 hrs constitute long-term? Still, the benefits of fasting are apparent, though somewhat difficult to quantify, and there are no negative side effects.
I see from comments that the study was based on a 10 day fast. Was this 10 days of continuous fasting?

This claim seems on the surface to be self-evident. But could it be just a little counterintuitive ? Although he F::B ratio does makes sense..... but do we want a ''healthy balance'' of Clostridioides difficile in our gut in the wild pursuit of diversity ????

Pretty sure having a diverse microbiome is like having specialists in all kinds of things, so when you give them a "problem" ( meaning a type of food ) there's always someone ready to deal with it. So the more diverse, the more robust it is and you can switch from eating high fiber foods, to high fat foods, to animal protein etc. There is one study where people with 100types of microbes were having inflamation with a higher fiber diet but the ones with 300+ types had positive outcomes and more antiinflamatory outcomes. And people that took fermented foods for 10 weeks ( 6 portions per day ) went from 100 to 125 species and everyone had better inflammatory blood marks.
I think fasting makes some bad bacteria die and eating fermented foods plus some fiber ( starting slowly ) can recolonize your gut
