Richard Ayoade proves that colour has absolutely nothing (or very little) to do with nationality. For example: After WWII, Britain, still very much an empire with many dominions, invited her overseas subjects to come to the motherland to live, work and play. Just so happened that the majority who arrived, were of a different skin colour but, as the British whites found out, were very, very British. British manners and way of life were instilled in the overseas dominions by the original colonists. The same manners and way of life, then permeated through those overseas societies, generation after generation. I believe that, for some, the shock of discovering that these newly arrived people (whom they thought would be 'foreign') were as British as a pot of tea and cucumber sandwiches at 1500hrs, was too much. Those shocked native whites then thought they were being replaced, (much the same as the recent Tiki torch marchers in America, chanting: "You will not replace us."). It was that sentiment that then caused the violence and rioting of the 50's. It's just my theory.

Best way to deal with an interview like this, instead of walking away, or getting angry, Ayode justs starts answering the questions with such absurd answers it has no value for the interviewer. Holy Christ Richard Ayoade is smart and witty. Every single question is masterfully ignored and parried by intelligent and witty comments that purposefully ignore the interviewers terrible questions, he continuosly slips in one liners and sharp responses and somehow manages to remain calm throughout. Well done Ayoade
Grant Kerr There might be some misunderstanding here: if a network asks/accepts to interview Tarantino and they agree that the purpose of the interview is to promote his new film, the network should stick to the agreement. Tarantino can't read minds and foresee a dishonest behavior on their part. His disappointment is understandable, especially because the interviewer insists in digressing.
@@vaderetro264 You're making an assumption there which is not true. Channel 4 news wouldn't agree that the purpose of the interview from their side is to promote anything. You've missed the point of what they touch on in the video above, the interviewee is there to promote something, the interviewer from a news show is there to ask the interviewee questions which are somehow relevant to current affairs. They would both generally discuss and agree question areas before the interview which would obviously extend beyond who their favorite character in a movie is. It's a news show, not TMZ.
Ahhh it's so refreshing to see and hear someone so articulate and clever AND humorous on the television! Only wish it had went on for longer. Legend! Plus Krishnan really held his own too. A genuinely great fencing match of an interview!!
Those serious questions in full: 1) You're part Norwegian. Any thoughts on that? Is Norway good? 2) Also you're black. Anything you want to say about being black? 3) I see you wear glasses. Do you agree with them?
This is what high IQ vs. low IQ looks like. Richard Ayoade reduced Krishnan to a size smaller than his shoe by the end of the interview. He walked out without ever walking out. I love how Krishnan was the one super uncomfortable at the end.
yeah there's a difference between discussing your experience with race (something that's understandable in the right context) and being forced to talk about it every single time you do an interview. that seems like the opposite of progress and integration 🤷🏽♀️
Pretty sure Richard spotted that question a mile away, and thought to himself “how can I politely insult this man for asking me that, and move the interview along?” Didn’t work, but I got a good laugh.
You are missing the point. Being that this is CH4 he was hoping to use that as a way of holding Richard up whilst denegrating society, not the other way around. Richard didn't want that, and wasn't prepared to used as a pawn.
@@threestepssideways1202 you are affirming what I said. I didn’t miss it, I just didn’t attribute a motive to Richard for not wanting to answer that question.
The way I read it was just him saying "You don't seem interested in playing the race card, even though you could". I feel like it was a reasonable comment.
I mean, he does literally start the interview by saying that broadcasting regulations mean it can't just be an advert for the book, so he has to ask him some serious questions not related to it. Which he then did.
I love Richard Ayoade, I still can't figure out when his normally talking and when his joking, it's been 10 YEARS!!!! His personality is literally me he can pull it off smooth.
Basically, Channel Four News is very, very, painfully woke. @@Lumibear. No he wasn't attempting to lead Richard into anything. They both openly addressed how it was a sham interview and that Krishnan is forced by law to ask serious questions, whilst Richard is just attempting to sell a book.

Oh I wish. This guy's career should have been ended a long fucking time ago. Unfortunately, his incompetent interviewing generates outrage, which in turn generates views, which generate money. And money is, unfortunately, all the network cares about.
Big fan of Ayoade, but Guru-Murthy is a well-respected news journalist in the UK and has been for decades (he's not a celebrity interviewer by trade). I'd wager he's more famous here than Ayoade. The notion that Ayoade would be able to (or even want to!) dismantle Guru-Murthy's career sounds a bit silly from over here. Just because he doesn't normally do Hollywood interviews, doesn't mean his career has been ruined...
The irony, looking back, is that this interview was completely successful in its objectives. It did stir controversy, getting Krishnan more views and it did heavily build intrigue around Ayoade, thus advertising his book.
he wasn't shut down at all. he played along to a great degree. He's not a "bully", he's a critical journalist on a public broadcaster used primarily to interviewing serious politicians- what did you wan't him to do with RDJ and Tarantino, wax lyrical about how they where gods on earth like some sycophantic Good Morning bootlicker? The real problem here is that the C4 execs thought it was appropriate to get him to interview an egotistical movie star and an ASD director (no one can argue that Tarantino doesn't exude Aspergers from his pores- and I say that as someone with it) on serious news program like this? it's just a desperate grasp for ratings.
I've never heard Richard sound so threatening as he did when talking about the Tarantino interview, but it went right over Krishnan's inattentive head.

I come back here to watch this every now and then because it makes me so happy. Richard wasn't being race baited and he just wiped the floor with the interviewer.
Sounds like the undertone of this interview is: “I’m here because I have a new book, that I cannot promote, so, why am I here?”
Spot on
I didn't understand this. Why can't he promote it?
@@vylantv1783 because of broadcasting rules
@@vylantv1783 The UK has strict broadcasting rules regarding advertising and promotion unlike the US where just about everything you see on TV is, in some way or another, a form of advertising a product.
They aren't allowed to outright promote the book by saying things like "this book is amazing, everyone should buy it" but they are allowed to simply talk about the book itself and talk to the author of the book.
I read that in his voice
When you have 10 in charisma and intelligence.
average?
Yeah 10 is a +0.
Ok DnD bros.... he has 30 in charisma and intelligence. Happy now?
kotor 1
he has negative charisma
“Don’t thank me I’ve done nothing for you.” Made me so happy. Rapier sharp and nimble as a balerina.
Will I don't think he was rapier, that "give me something in return" line was pretty rapey
That was one of the most entertaining and unique interviews I have ever seen. 😂
Well done Richard for giving stupid answers to stupid questions.
The poor race baiter laughed even as he was being insulted. They all need to be handled this way bc everything about them is a joke.
wait where's the full interview? bcz it sounded like ayoade was being sarcastic and rude first in this clip. I wanna see the whole thing. What did guru say before this clip to annoy ayoade?
@@cephalonrolli5678 it seemed more to me like they were messing around, the whole thing was really about richard promoting his book but the interviewer first states that he has to ask something serious then asks richard something that has very little meaning in terms of news whatsoever. It’s almost like a skit.
But he was acting weird from the beginning. He knew exactly what was going to happen so why did he turned up?
Yes, but he also made himself look bad. Having a bad interviewer doesn't mean that you should be a bad interviewee.
"You are young, um..."
"I'm 72."
Especially that odious specimen interviewing him there.
barkerpoo b
I could watch this interview every day. I wish I was as quick witted as Richard.
Best way to deal with an interview like this, instead of walking away, or getting angry, Ayode justs starts answering the questions with such absurd answers it has no value for the interviewer. When he get's tired of that, he gets sarcastic. And as the cherry on top, he starts interviewing the interviewer instead.
Most important of all, he stayed polite, decent, and classy. Peak performance.
I can indeed confirm: we Norwegians look to Ayoade for leadership and inspiration.
What on earth happened between these two before the cameras turned on?
Richard. Richard happened lol
Nothing happened. There was no hostility. Both of them were having a laugh.
Stuart Summers how do you know?
@@ross8330 because I know Richard's style and the interviewer confirmed it afterwards.
@@ross8330 I think there is no way you can interpret this other than a big joke ....i mean they go for serious to joking all throughout
Add to that an abundance of charm and humility and a complete absence of hostility or ego. I’m in awe. I’m so envious of his mind!
Its not hard to Bamboozle a journalist
You described exactly what I was thinking.
@@geoffok ok, I’ll give you the ego, but there’s an undeniable charm to self-deprecating ego. Aoyade has it down pat.
@@geoffok then you don't know Richard. He abhors interviews to begin with, let alone race baiting ones like this guy.
I didn't think I could love Ayoade any more than I already do
I WISHED I could answer interview questions like him. Absolute legend!
I feel like Ayoade is a human ahead of his time
Nope, he just doesn't play the victim or want to be defined by his skin colour. See Morgan Freeman, it's just maturity, intelligence.
Sonny Etchell Richard isn't human. He's something else that we can't quite define yet as we aren't advanced enough
Lol, he's a super polite smart person but make no mistake, just a person like many others
Intelligence doesnt necessarily equal wit
Sonny Etchell HE IS.
Richard is a class act. The fact that he defended Tarantino is impressive and admirable.
Grant Kerr Some interviews are done to promote a product, so Tarantino's reaction was correct.
Grant Kerr 🖕
Grant Kerr Entiltled for being honest?
Oh my god, that was brilliant. Brutally confrontational in the best possible way. Love it.
Richard is the perfect holy water for this vampire.
😂😂😂😂
Ahhhhh 🤣🤣😂😂😂
Well said. Hopefully the interviewer’s employers cut out the cancer soon.
Please don't disrespect vampires bro they're cool 😅
😄
Those serious questions in full:
1) You're part Norwegian. Any thoughts on that? Is Norway good?
2) Also you're black. Anything you want to say about being black?
3) I see you wear glasses. Do you agree with them?

I've had it with your tabloid journalism.
I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions.

I´d love to see Russel Brand being interviewed by this guy, Brand is well known for perfectly dealing with unnecessarily hostile journalists.
Then he's dealt with it well so far
Kid this is how you destroy an annoying person without using rude words, raising your voice, and also making them laugh
When an irrestible force meets a flaccid and incompetent object.
Maybe that's why he was confused when he was asked if he goes there as a subject.
Another good descriptor could be impotent
I'm offended that that comment hasn't harvested more thumbs
😂😂😭😂
*irresistible..?
"Don't thank me, I've done nothing for you". Genius way to end an interview
"But thanks for your time / Then you can thank me for mine / And af-ter that's said / Forget it", the great Sixto Rodriguez said it well too.
Most British way to insult someone ever. Beautiful
Every time I think I can't love Richard Ayoade more, I come across an old clip I've never seen and my heart skips.
This is what high IQ vs. low IQ looks like. Richard Ayoade reduced Krishnan to a size smaller than his shoe by the end of the interview. He walked out without ever walking out. I love how Krishnan was the one super uncomfortable at the end.
It must be frustrating for a person to always have to talk more about his skin colour rather than his achievements.
yeah there's a difference between discussing your experience with race (something that's understandable in the right context) and being forced to talk about it every single time you do an interview. that seems like the opposite of progress and integration 🤷🏽♀️
Pretty sure Richard spotted that question a mile away, and thought to himself “how can I politely insult this man for asking me that, and move the interview along?”
Didn’t work, but I got a good laugh.
@@nathanielkidd2840 I was talking to the OP, not you.
Oh my god Krishnan, you can’t just ask someone why they’re black
Y r u gey
No I’m Gretchen
It would make more sense to ask how, but thats just a matter of biology XD.
The way I read it was just him saying "You don't seem interested in playing the race card, even though you could". I feel like it was a reasonable comment.
@@returnoftheredeye its literally a mean girls quote
This is still the funniest interview I've ever seen. Genius
I guess it is easy to over look how incredibly intelligent Richard Ayoade is. what a guy.
KGM - "So, Richard, your book is about film, so let's discuss your race"
😂...He handles it masterfully though, well done Cambridge education system.
If you take anything in that interview seriously then you're a proper fool.
I mean, he does literally start the interview by saying that broadcasting regulations mean it can't just be an advert for the book, so he has to ask him some serious questions not related to it. Which he then did.
He was offended by the race question
this guy ALWAYS goes off topic it pisses me off .
The SARCASM, it's TOO POWERFUL BATMAN!
HOLY RUSTED METAL BATMAN
"We are here to talk about your book"
And I still have no idea what his book is about
I love Richard Ayoade, I still can't figure out when his normally talking and when his joking, it's been 10 YEARS!!!! His personality is literally me he can pull it off smooth.
This is just the weirdest “interview” I’ve ever seen.
@Mart kenyon
:
Haha "weird" for the best LOL hahahahaha so excellent hehehehehehe
It’s still an interview. Don’t fret over extensive punctuation.
Basically, Channel Four News is very, very, painfully woke. I think Krishnu was attempting to lead Richard into an embarrassingly basic ‘my fight with my roots’ narrative spin, but Richard is a highly intelligent and successful gentleman who doesn’t need anybody’s sympathy or understanding about his ‘struggle’, so he shut him down.
@@Lumibear. No he wasn't attempting to lead Richard into anything. They both openly addressed how it was a sham interview and that Krishnan is forced by law to ask serious questions, whilst Richard is just attempting to sell a book.
@@DarkNog yeah no, nobody is here by any law, other people doing this job can manage to let a man promote a book without trying to win an award.
‘Then i ask you a really hard question’
Richard : ‘which i will parry’
That cracked me up hahahahah
Keke Kimagi set his stall out right there
He said serious
Would've been better if the DM made him roll for it.
"Don't thank me, I've done nothing for you" should be on a tshirt 😂😂👏👏
I had no idea how amazingly quick witted and intelligent Ayoade is. Wow. Just wow.
Richard only wants to promote his book.
And outright admits it by bringing up Tarantino.
Masterful.

indeed lol, I haven't seen any other interviews on CZcams with him thus far....RDJ, QT, and RA are the only ones, after that he was never heard of again. lol
Literally the first question Ayoade makes him look like an absolute pudding
Oh I wish. This guy's career should have been ended a long fucking time ago. Unfortunately, his incompetent interviewing generates outrage, which in turn generates views, which generate money. And money is, unfortunately, all the network cares about.
Someone in the background: “What career?”
His sarcasm is golden hahaha
He is so likeable.
That last line fucking killed me, this man should get the Nobel price for being awesome!
AYOADE FOR THE NEXT DOCTOR WHO!
Uuuuuuuuu hells yes.
I would cry for love 😍.. tardis not working anymore! Have you tried turning it on and off again?
Good shout
It’s been touted even before Capaldi.
Great idea
“Couldn’t you get anyone else to come” a good indicator to the interviewer that Richard knows what you are about to do
Ayoade also just hates interviews in general.
The irony, looking back, is that this interview was completely successful in its objectives. It did stir controversy, getting Krishnan more views and it did heavily build intrigue around Ayoade, thus advertising his book.
Respect to Krisnin on this one: " The serious thing i want to ask you is: do see yourself as a role model for British Norwegians?" 😄
That was a good one, the only witty thing he said
Ive never seen a dude so consistently fail to drum up controversy in his interviews

It’s so satisfying to see Krishnan Guru get shut down.
this feels very much like they both know exactly what's going on here. frankly it's hilarious
@Marianne Havisham he was, u old bat
@Marianne Havisham he was
he wasn't shut down at all. he played along to a great degree.
Ayoade's a fucking genius.
i come back and watch this at least once a month
I've never heard Richard sound so threatening as he did when talking about the Tarantino interview, but it went right over Krishnan's inattentive head.
interviewer: "the serious thing i would like to ask you ... "
RA: "which I will parry"
Richard Ayoade, youre invited to my birthday forever
Ill bring the cake ;)
No one asked, but if Master Ayoade is there, I would like to show up as well.
Why is that guy allowed to do interviews? He's offensive and tries to get a rise out of anyone he's interviewing
because they get millions of views?
Because channel 4 want to fill a race quota instead of getting quality people for the job
any evidence of that?
Race quota and their channel TRP rises when there's controversy in their channel so they try to make public figures to say controversial statements.
@@Guted77 The best behind the scenes deals have no "evidence". If one expects some kind of papers staying things out explicitly in every such case, they'd be taken in for suckers more often than not
