    Lots of rose places including actual breeders/growers say you can plant as close as you want especially to make a full hedge/border. And when you see their photos the companion plants surround the roses so much that you just see rose blooms popping up amongst the companion plants. They all seem to do just fine.

      @@Paulzimmermanroses I think it's nice to be able to see the roses properly rather than just blooms popping up between other plants. But hey as long as I can see roses in any of those people's pictures it is nice.
