      @@FaceCulture I'm going to assume your response isn't sarcastic and assume you took my comment as ... critical but useful. I wouldn't necessarily call my comment thoughtful, but.. I actually did do some thinking around what I wrote and may as well share a little bit. I used to play in band myself, and I understand getting a compelling interview is difficult. Interviews are often done as promotion, and musicians are often bled dry when promoting a new release, having to answer speak about themselves until they are going blank. Also, it is very rare that interviews centered around the question "can you tell us about the new album and about your creative process" turns out to be very interesting. You need to some very unusual stories and some very vibrant personalities (who aren't exhausted by touring) to pull it off. Talking to musicians about music often comes off similar to asking an athlete for their opinion of the big game they just played ("I think we gave it our all, we've been training hard and if we keep focusing on defense we're going to have a great season ahead" etc. etc.). Superfans and those already familiar with who's being interviewed will enjoy it, but for actual promotion, drawing in the interest of an outsider, it's usually not that compelling. I try to keep my youtube comments positive and wondered if I should have left that one. I think my comment was about the entire concept of the rock interview and little to do with the band, who I enjoy and support. I found myself wondering what an example of a "good" interview with a musician might be, and by chance I happened to find one later that day. Genesis P-Orridge had just passed and I found myself watching an interview with him/her on the foundations and creative processes of Throbbing Gristle. What made it a good interview was that it was a very unusual subject that had become of great importance to music history, told by a single individual who had clearly rehearsed the answers given and who was also someone who loooooooooved attention, being on camera, and enjoyed talking just as much as creating music. so... there you go. at the risk of being boring myself, I shared an even more thoughtful comment with the hope it's a topic we both find interesting cause... to most people the whole subject is boring as shit. ;-) czcams.com/video/1sDj77WpiVQ/video.html

      @FaceCulture  Před 4 lety +7

      I must admit there was a hint of sarcasm, but all in good spirit. I usually prefer not to comment in lenght but it felt fitting this time since you did take the time. I certainly understand where you are coming from, not everyone will like my style of interviewing and that is fine, but you raise some interesting points. Personally I prefer nothing to be or sound rehearsed because in my estimation it then becomes a bit contrived (think PR. Even though this is a great way of being direct and eloquent in the transfer of information). I believe there is a vast multitude of variables that go into an interview (or any conversation for that matter) most of which we can't control. The challenge for me is to figure out what a particular subject likes to talk about, how I can get them to open up, etc. with the aim to provide the viewer with a sense that they understand/get to know the person and music a little bit better. The thought of discussing topics that can be interesting regardless of whether one likes an artist is interesting, and one that I'm still working on :)
      So now, this time with the utmost sincerity, thank you for your thoughtful comment!
