@@paulsolon6229 comments like yours show a real lack of understanding of pro cycling. Ben Healy is still only 22 years old and a rider of incredible talent. He just finished second in a major classic. That puts him in the top 5% of all pro cyclists in the peloton. WVA and MVP are both 28 and physically more developed and more experienced, so comparing them and saying BH is no good is just silly. BH will win plenty as he matures and gets stronger and has a very bright future ahead of him.

I honestly think it happens...since flanders last year and tadej gushing over racing with VDP plus pog won't always race tour vdp would love green jersey and UAE has climbers to deliver it. Then most fascinating idea each help each other with monument sweep as tadej working for vdp to get a liege and lombardia and vdp for tadej at msr and roubaix rest would just be best man wins two phenoms enjoying cycliing together and being compensated handsomely id imagine like liv gold or al nasser in futbol. It makes sense ,if UAE had a second GC prospect i don't think they would be as keen, but without one now they would have a lot of attention in GT race or Tirreno or PN without tadej for team. A team with deep pockets too. Issue us VDP is treasure od dutch cycling but he ws born in belgium and famous grandfather was french so ight not be as sentimental decision as others think

Very interesting dynamic with the front group. I think the big peloton in the 20 sec range gave protection to both Pogi and the other 10. Pogi can't go solo againts a 50 man peloton for 50km to destroy the front group, but others need the group and work within to have any chance of win with rolling attacks later against Pogi. Once the crash eliminated the peloton threat, its a free for all for the top 11, and Pogi can safely go as soon as he likes.

tadej is at level right now reminds me of prime fabian but with even more diverse skillset, there have been so few times the strength disparity of one rider where he is just unstoppable like fabian in 2011 E3 had 3 flats in final 40 k won by a minute. Fabian 2010-2013 where hed win E3, flanders, roubaix had that turn of pace and hed let race go up the road and then leapfrog group to group essentially using other teams agressiveness as teammates and tadej is doing similar type moves its really special to watch. Sagan never was able to put pieces together except worlds especially bergen was one of most impressive tactical perforances think he pulled back 4-5 flyers himself in finale.
VDP is similar is aggressiveness and style but he usually tries with brute force and not the finesse of tadej. Two most exciting riders at moment by far if tadej does ardennes sweep we have to talk in historic perspective of most dominant starts to any season all before grand tours start which are his strength si much fun to watch he smashed that amstel on podium worse than he beat the field!

He has had some issues with his stomach and taking the amount of carbs riders consume now. He's also coming back too from crashes?? Id rather take the chance and go with him and he could puncture at the wrong time.
Waiting for the whole group to catch up you have to realistically think, it's gonna be much tougher to even get a podium.
I think it was good tactics personally, especially if, like Tom, you already have good form and belief.
Id definitely question Piddcock taking long equal pulls when it was just the three. I think then he should, as was mentioned cut it down a bit but at that point I think he thought maybe, just maybe.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but the moment I saw that Tadej Pogačar was in the back with was it 15 other riders I had two thoughts. Firstly how the hell did the other big teams like Jumbo-Visma and Bahrain Victorious allow this to happen and secondly why the hell are all the other riders in this break taking turns? As I said maybe I'm wrong but I've seen not too long ago people be in breaks with the likes of Sagan and just refuse to work with him, surely the same is true with Pog?
Surely the move for all riders in the back was to make Pog do most of the work and if he refused bring it all back together. I just don't see anyone other than Van Aert or Van de Poel going toe to toe with Pogačar and coming off on top, not in a race like this at least. I just didn't understand it. After that though I don't understand Pidcock at all, except that maybe the win at Strade Bianchi has gone to his head, but that has large sections on gravel which have him an advantage, this race doesn't. And surely he knew going into the race his good he was feeling, maybe he felt good and he wasn't as good as he thought. Pog though is a machine.

@@Deathbybono73 Whilst you are right I have my reservations about whether even Pogačar would have been able to go solo from 90km out against what would have been a less disrupted, because there would only have been UAE and to do this, coordinated chase, say 5 or 6 top riders, maybe more, and win. It was evident once he was in that breakaway that even if it had stayed as a smaller more select group that there would be only one winner. I think with any of the riders mentioned you just can't ride with them. After Sagan was seen in this light no one would ride with him (and he still won stages and races) so why are the latest superstars given this chance?
I can only put it down to certain teams thinking a podium position, even a top 10, is a win, especially with relegation in play, and that they think 2-9 places out of 10-15 riders is better than chancing it against the whole peleton, which wasn't that big by the end, so although this is hindsight it wouldn't have been much more. You can't do this when all 3 of the superstars, WVA, MVDP, and Pog (maybe Evanapoel as well), maybe a few more top riders as well, are in the race, as they can get away and work together, but that wasn't the case yesterday.
