- A Dutch documentary about American Special Forces working in Afghanistan. They work together with fifty Afghan soldiers which are trained by coalition forces.
This documentary was broadcasted in 2003 on Dutch national television.

Ahk yeah I understand that much, but are they from some sort of regiment? I'm aussie, like here, we have the SASR britain has SAS like US Navy Seals, Delta, so forth, what exactly is the 18?
Excuse the silly question mate, but I'm Aussie, not fully informed in US operations, but what is 18C, B and Z from? I've only seen them in America's Army. I know there is Delta and so on, but what is 18?

You are right that SF has certain roles, but they are not strict, an operator is always cross training, and about language, you cant count on a terp being there, the goal is for an ODA to be able to break up and perform the mission with as little as 3 men (which they did in the beginning of OEF) everyone on the team can do the basics of everyone else's job. Thats the minimum standard. The jack of all trades.
@Marco81blues besides that is a stupid way to train for many reasons. One being he could easily had an AD or ND which is a unecessary risk for the current situation. Number two, you could see the detainee was not going down with out a fight and hadj could have grabbed the barrell of his weapon which would render the weapon useless and not allow the soldier to have complete controll over the situation. So I think if that is in fact the way ANA or ABP trains, they need to re-evaluate their TTP's.
The last thing you want while wrestling a dude on the ground is for him to get a hold of your weapon. Won't end well for anyone involved.
@robertk979 wait sorry...i didnt realize what you were replying too....yea i know about all that...but we were supplying stingers not small arms like machine guns. I think those may have been 14.5mm anti air rounds used in russian double guns

@swiwi86 The Afgan Gov Gave them the authority and they found several 82mm mortar rounds that will not be fired at gov forces.

Actually, the Coalition reported that 77 of its troops died in August. Of course, Western casualties were higher than that, but still.

He clearly could have shot the American guy or the detainee accidently with a stupid move like that. I'm sure they are trained but that was not a smart tactic. The other Afghan solider might as well have used his RPG to hit the detainee on the head...... :/

jsc4318; Korea was fought with NATO forces. But that's why NATO was founded, to have a united front so no one nation had to face the brunt of an engagement alone.
......WW2, The British stormed 2 and a half beaches, we took 2. Korea, we were as far from alone as you can possibly be. S Koreans...remember? As well as NATO, which, as mentioned before, was formed for that very reason. Desert Storm, once again, not alone.

Operators..
The people that think the special forces operators are being to harsh think of these things. One if they were going to this compound with no real cause how in the hell did they find the stuff they did they didn't just happen to stumble across mortars they knew they were their. Second special forces operate in small units and are usually used on certain raids what probably happened here was they were given Intel on the compound and watched it and gathered more Intel that would give the identity of the people linked to the weapons found and also who was supplying the weapons. And lastly usually if a special forces unit is doing a raid it is because it could hold very crucial Intel and could lead to significant people being identified which then would allow them to either go after them or pass it on to another special forces unit or pass it onto a Government agency to allow them to help develop more Intel. In the end these guys are their for a purpose there not their to be nice.

Animals might not fight wars, but they compete with eachother. Humans don't, the pas 2000 years that animal-like-competition disappeared in several steps, but we had a substitute, war.
Now, people do not compete with eachother, they live next to eachother and "put up with the other" and do not compete.
That's what I mean with nature's laws. ;)

the specials forces did the right thing, they discovered the ammunition to slow down the taliban supplies. this is what is necessary, if there werent any intel that they were storing ammunition then the special forces wouldnt have raided for no apparent reasons.

I'm not a certified pilot but I have flown a plane yes. And when I was a kid, I played MS flight sim. And I have X-plane(s) on my iPhone, so yes, I do know what's flying is about.
In today's world you can try just about everything on your computer before doing the real thing. There's even a military sim called Arma2, which can teach you many things on warfare.
