How to Make Beef Stew [Step by Step] Simple Recipe

  • A step by step beef stew recipe for beginner cooks! You can make this with just a few ingredients and you probably already have most of them in your refrigerator or pantry!
    Beef Stew for Beginners
    Ingredients:
    1 1 1/2 to 2 Lb chuck roast, trimmed and cubed into 1" pieces
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    4 Tbs flour, divided
    2 Tbs olive oil
    half of a yellow onion, diced
    2 Tbs tomato paste
    1 c beef stock
    1 c red wine (you can use an additional cup of beef stock as a wine substitute)
    2 carrots, peeled and chopped (optional)
    Directions:
    1. Trim fat and sinew off of the chuck roast and cut into 1" pieces. Place in a large mixing bowl.
    2. Add salt and pepper and toss with your hands until the meat is evenly coated.
    3. Add 2 Tbs of flour and coat evenly.
    4. In a Dutch oven over medium high heat, heat olive oil and add the pieces of chuck roast. Brown on all sides for a few minutes and then remove with a slotted spoon into a mixing bowl. Set aside.
    5. Add the onion and cook for 1 minute.
    6. Add tomato paste and flour and cook for 1 minute.
    7. Add the beef stock and wine and cook for 1 minute until it comes to a boil.
    8. Add the beef back into the Dutch oven and lower the heat to low. Cook uncovered for 45 minutes.
    9. Add the carrots (optional) and cover for an additional 45 minutes on low heat.
