There is no doubt about Callas's artistic genius. But one can't ignore the shrill quality of the voice. It can mar an otherwise outstanding performance.

I think Maria Callas is extraordinary! I don't think her voice is shrill at all - it is a voice of emotion. Opera would be nothing with singers that sound like the canaries.

@@billobrien5118, I understand your sentiments. Callas was a very special talent among opera singers. The perfect voice does not exist; the smart money factors in all available evidence and comes up with a viable assessment. Mind you. My comment was quite positive.
