    Brilliantly explained. I'm initiated into Gelug Mahamudra, but had experiences with dakinis even before. Would love to hear more about how to maneuver this intense and mind-expanding realm 💙🎆🦁🦚☝🙏

    Nyingma Palyul Refuge Tree above the Dharma Protectors there are Dakas and Dakinis on each side with Avalokitesvara in the middle, 8 Heruka, Mahakala and Vajra Kila slightly above. Just above that is 5 Dhyani Buddhas and Kuntuzangpo and Kuntuzangmo in union. Also Drikung Kagyu refuge tree I believe shows Dakinis as well. Just thought I'd share. Thanks for the informational video as usual.

    In Hindu Mythology, Sumbha tends to be associated with demonic rhetoric, whereas in the Father class of Anuttara Tantra, Sumbharaja tends to have a position of a wrathful yidam. Could you please explain some of the philosophical and religious differences in the use of the name Sumbha in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology?

    • @jeffwatt5114
      @jeffwatt5114 Před 3 lety +4

      Andrew Bacrau Shumbha is generally referring to the character in the Indian Devi Mahatmya religious text. In Tantric Buddhism the deity Shumbharaja is an outer protector from the mandala of Hevajra and others. The names of the two characters, Shumbha and Nishumbha, are used within the mantra of Chakrasamvara known as the ‘mantra of the four faces.’ The names are a Buddhist borrowing.

      @@jeffwatt5114 Thanks for your response. I took a course on Hindu & Buddhist Tantra at Nalanda. The name Alexis Sanderson popped up a lot. Since then, I'm having difficulties understanding what should be considered as a "uniquely original" Buddhist Tantra without any borrowing from Saiva/Shakta scriptures. Please let me know if you can do a video on this, though I'd prefer we can talk in private extensively.

    How many Dakinis are there really? 24? Or 46? In Indian texts, they mention 7 celestial sister goddesses. If so, are these vajrayogini, simhamukha, vajravarahi, kurukulla, machig lagdron.... who are the other two?

    They are not witches. Surprised you choose to use this word to describe their religion. they are minor goddesses. The goddesses are manifestations each representing themselves as one geometric figure and one mantra syllable , they together form a set of 64 interconnected triangles collectively assembled as the Supreme geometric Chakra called shri chakra, the goddess who is the true engulfing Supreme energy is Tripura sundari/Lalita Parameshwari/rajarajeshwari(the goddess of goddess)........the goddess varahi(buddhist vajravarahi), maatangi(Buddhist green tara), kaali(Buddhist krodeshwari), are the left hand side and right hand side manifestation of the Supreme goddess. Varahi is the battlefield commander and Tara is her prime Minister. Kali is her general .
    The dakisnis and yogi is are 64 in numbers and are all minor servants , small manifestation of the Supreme shri chakra goddess. They are all embodied within the geometric shape called shri chakra.... which is represented as a Buddhist mandala.
    the goddesses are ugra (ferocious in nature) and therefore they often do "seances"with her followers and prescribe to be worshiped in left handed path by hindu tribes, so as to preserve their lineage of worship. Therefore their details are closely monitored rituals not open to common scrutiny. The Tibetan version of Buddhism is directly descended from the left handed guardian goddess and God worship aligned with hindu tantra. After Buddhism spread they merged the rituals and mantras.

    DO DAKINIS REALLY EXIST? I do not believe so ... there is no realm in the cosmos like those of the gods in form and formless or brahma's world where such a being can be found ... or are they visualized energies out of the yogi's body which can later be dissolved at will ? and what is the sense of all that? what do I do when meeting such a "phantom" ? talk to her? unite with her only once or all the rest of my life? LET ME KNOW

      Ha Ha! Yes, I think you are correct. In Buddhist Tantra dakinis belong primarily to the internal logic structure of the Chakrasamavara cycle of Tantras. The idea of dakinis is surely borrowed from Shaiva Tantra.
