Love this! I have been transformed from bored housewife to full lab coat wearing science nerd, in under a year, and I am loving it! IMO hunting is a favorite family pastime, and looking at what is under the microscope has replaced watching television. This was not my world before, but it is now! Thank you Matt for explaining IMO1 and 2 in such great detail very interesting subject. I started by foraging and identifying edible and non edible fungi. I love the way they colonise a leaf litter, wood chip and all the sticks and twigs. even more fascinating to learn that they actually play a great part in cleaning and nourishing our soils. I love these videos Matt , so class Powers Permaculture video. I've been waiting years to be able to take a course, both bad timing in my life with marriage and kids coming as well as financial tightness . I just still look forward to taking the class. We WERE living in Texas but setting up a syntropic system in East Africa right now to have a demo site. When we get back to the states I'll definitely try to reconnect. I hope things are going better for you now and settled well.

I make Anaerobic liquid IMO In East Africa for farmers to spray on the floor of pig pens and chicken coops to deal with the smell.
I was a little alarmed to discover that they also put it in the animal's drinking water!
So I had it tested for pathogens like listeria etc. So far I haven't seen any problems but can't say I'm easy about it.
So I'll subscribe to this channel and see what I can learn.

Took Chris' class in 2019 and been using IMO ever since. Got to work with him direct on a cannabis project in CO and he made some gigantic IMO3 and 4 piles for us. Now I'm in NY and we're having him out again in May to help us make some more that will be used in a study with Cornell University. I'm very curious and excited to hear more about what you are discovering through the gene sequencing. It seems to me like the IMO has always made a difference in my gardens, but I honestly can't say for sure exactly what that difference is. We're always doing so many different things at once that it's hard to pinpoint what exactly each one brings to the table. Where can I find out more about what you've been uncovering?

It was updated to Jadam, a simpler but powerful way to execute regenerative farming without much carbohydrate or sugar source to catch beneficial microbes...
JADAM relies upon much more chemicals like caustic soda and elemental sulfur - I don't like to wear gas masks and gloves especially to mix things at 212F in a plastic container... leaching is a real thing. JADAM isn't rooted in any real understanding of biology. KNF was based off Japanese master natural farmers and is a gathering and synthesis of ideas. JADAM seems to be a return to chemical ag in a way: a big focus on minerals when everything right now is shifting to minerals & biology working together.
@@ThePermacultureStudent JADAM is the Master's Son.. He is a Biologist and Chemist and has other ways to do the same thing.. Integrating both of them gives you the both of best worlds. One technique is faster, and to be used once created, the other can be saved and used on demand, etc.. There are very few parts of the project that require Costic materials. In fact, just one that I know, and it is used to avoid using high heat to melt the Sulfur. He uses a chemical reaction, instead of heat. Give it another look... They are complementary.

Looking forward to the results of imo. I do alot of things in my indoor herb garden but i dont always know exactly why i am. I just see results and better yields. You have a DNA sequencer in your home! Wow.
I tested Mykos WP on some rice substrate when also collecting local soil to create IMO. The Mykos grew red, pink and purple fungi while my local soil grew white fluffy fungi on the same substrate stored in same location/time. I've heard the red/purple fungi is not to be used. What does this say about Mykos WP?

I would be interested in seeing the inner workings of fermented plant juice from some sources I have read they say the osmotic pressure squeezes the traits from the parts of the plants that are fermented.

Can you do a video on how to collect dirt with only a shovel?
I want to learn how to make amoxicillin.
I tried it with rice but I don't think I did it right because the plastic tote became a raised bed garden and grew all kinds of edible plants.
I have a question. I've been using imo 2 in my water. Is it beneficial? or i have to go to imo 3 or 4? Can i propagate imo2 in water adding molasses as a compost tea?
Can we use molasses for imo 2?

I think the antimicrobial aspects of honey rule it out but it could preserve the spores just fine, just not the bacteria.
Those look like fungi being attacked by bacteria. Things definitely going anaerobic with KNF.
That's why it's important to discuss these things with seasoned mycologists with 40+ years of teaching, research, and publishing behind them. It's fungi and it's not pathogenic BECAUSE the bacteria is teeming within it. Starting with rhizophagy studies first will ground you in the modalities at work.

How the fuck did you get a collection like that? I have never seen a collection that looks like wool on top.
An experienced KNF practitioner was able to get this in an old growth forest area that I promised not to disclose. Sorry! BUT I did a lot of work on this and so it's featured in a case study in the new book.
The way I have been looking at is like this.. good bacteria likes oxygen-plants make oxygen. Again symbiotic relationships.
It's important to remember that natural healthy soil is a facultative anaerobic environment not aerobic.
