If you have been following along this season you know I have been trying to get my hands on a new Diverge frameset. The real driver behind that upgrade is the ability to increase tire width. My current Diverge maxes out at 700x38. Joey suggested experimenting with his WTB 650b wheels running WTB Venture 47's. They had clearance inside my frame so I decided to ride them on a getaway trip to Banner Elk, NC where there are plenty of gravel ups and downs on which to give them a thorough workout.
It didn't take long to realize this solution gave me the increased tire under the bike that I have been after since riding Rothrock in the spring of the year.
It's going to be the perfect wheel/tire combo sizing solution for me on this bike.

I run a 2021 Diverge Carbon with 700x48 no problem. Check out the Rene Herse Oracle Ridge's, those big 48's are great. I'm not a light rider at 195. But add in the weight of the bike plus a few pounds and I'm running 27psi (front) and 29psi (rear). No problems.

My older Diverge frame/fork doesn't allow for anything larger than 38 :(

been riding a Slate with 650bs for 5-6 years and found that, WITH MODERN TIRES, bigger is better... only miss the 29er's on MTBtype rides

Another great 650b tire is Specialized Pathfinder. I’ve been running these for the past 2 summers , with a tubeless setup with great results

Always been a huge fan of my 700x38’s. I think I’ve gone through 3 or 4 sets of them. Thanks for watching!

I have a set of both. 650b for Keystone Gravel and 700c for unPAved. Gravel King SK (stone kickers) are pingy too

Conti Speedking Racesport 2.2 would kill it across those kind of surfaces.

Are you riding tubeless? I'm 6'-0", around 210lbs when i was riding Teravail Cannonballs in the 650bx47 size, tubeless on alloy rims and a steel framed gravel bike (carbon fork). A similar tire to the Venture. I think I was riding 26/28 psi. Perhaps your psi is too high, which leads to the pinging of gravel. I see 35psi mentioned on the WTB web site... but try lower pressure, experiment. My riding consists mostly of paved, packed dirt and soft dirt. I'm now riding 650bx2.1 around 20/24 psi.

Absolutely tubeless. Great idea to tinker with pressure! Thanks for watching!
