people who live in these areas always amaze me. like, they settle in tornado areas, scurry and hunker down when the tornado arrives, and then pop out from underground after everything is decimated, rebuild, and then repeat. i never understood why there weren't underground houses, basements in schools, and underground wires. it's like these people are a whole different kind of animal.
Almost every country is prone to tornados. A tornado isn't the only disaster either. Only 5% of storms produce tornados. So why spend all your money building a house underground if you probably won't get hit? A lot of people can't build their houses underground, because of the soil, flooding, weather, and climate issues. You can't just 'build a house underground', there's a lot of factors going into it.
Magical Megan i'm referring more to places like Tornado Alley, where destruction is more frequent than other locations. and factoring in the water table, droughts, flash floods, etc., it's still most certainly possible to have a dry house underground. there's drainage and 'barriers' specifically designed for underground homes that foresee those problems. it boggles my mind schools don't have shelters, and in other places where many people gather. instead kids huddle with teachers and get ripped from their arms in a bathroom as everyone crouches pointlessly while the tornado tears everything apart. i feel sympathy for the people who lose their kids, but then i can't help but wonder why protective measures weren't put in place. extremely preventable and pointless loss of life.
