For true Evanescence fans. This song may have hit CZcams 13 years ago, but it was in fact 20 years ago I know they played a big part in my teenage years dealing with depression and anxiety. To this day they still help me
I was 3 years old when this song came out.
Helped me deal with my epilepsy at times, from the fact that her songs about them "well from point of view". She has suffered it for many years and I have suffered from it since I was diagnosed at the age of 9 and well now 37.
I remember this being on her first album Fallen in 2003, I was 13 and Evanescence helped me too, I'm glad they've helped people through some difficult times in their lives and continue to do so ❤

Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me
You know you've got everybody fooled
Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
Without the mask where will you hide
Can't find yourself lost in your lie
I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you have everybody fooled
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool

I like how when these songs came out, a lot of people hated on her because “this shit was too deep and cringey”. But now it’s the exact opposite. I’m so so proud to be one of the Evanescence lovers even back then when people hated on her

Music for the empaths
tbh no one hated on amy @ all back in the day, lol she had a ton of fans (including me) and still does
Her voice honestly gives me chills. She has such control of every single note she sings.
hey
Tell me about it!I'm a 60yr old metal head and she's the SHIT!!
Everything about this song...the lyrics ...the depiction...it hits really different when you're a woman in the superficial industry of beauty and fashion...
Also if you're dealing with seeking a sense of belonging or having felt as if you've never truly fitted in with any crowd at work or school.
This song reaches the depths of your soul if you can relate to it that is...
You betrayed yourself with show off that's it 😭

I cant believe Amy Lee hasnt acted in any movies. She's a natural.
Arda Karaduman i agree
Øvëŕťüŕè øf Řävëńś that’s cool
She was a "natural" at portraying these emotions because she's obviously felt like this at some point in her life. Hopefully she doesn't feel that way anymore
Some dark Vampire movie or something. Like hardcore horror or something. I would deffo watch it,over and over.
No actress compares to her she is a rockstar goddess with a voice that angels and demons are jealous of
I find it funny that this song is more relevant today in 2018 than it was at the time of this video's initial release. Also, this music video eerily tells a slight variation of what happened to Britney Spears, the "MEGA IT GIRL" of the early 2000s.
tueher86. And it's funny you say that, because the song was originally written for her To perform!
Lol
Well I am glad evanescence did it.
Can we get at least one music video without any mention of Britney Spears or Kim Kardashian in the comments...?
i just realize any artist who dissed britney before? are nowhere to be found in the industry haHAHAHAHA,. While Britney is topping charts and still relevant. jhahahha Evanescence who? one hit wonder. hazhahahah
62 years old and still love Amy's voice just hits the spot every time
Wow.... it's now been so so many years after I shouted along with this song at an evanescence concert with my future husband. Now I'm 37, married to him and have 2 kids, one is a little girl. I've watched social media evolve all this time and this song hits even harder now. Makes me even more determined to teach my daughter her worth outside of Instagram likes.
Jesus Christ is the Only Way to salvation. Remember that.
U go girl your a good mother

I'm just here to ruin everyones time

Amy Lee nailed this part in the video. You can actually see the pain and despair that the character is feeling. She is portraying actual depression and complete anguish as she is forced to be someone that she is not. Being everyone's fool would be extremely horrible. Love the song and the video is spot on. Amy Lee should have done some acting on the big screen
It’s never too late for her take on a role as an actress. I hope she isn’t too rusty these days.

20 years later and this song is more important than ever-with all the social media fake world and fake faces-it really is a visionary. Good work Amy Lee.
This lady can give one hell of a lecture on depression.
🤨uhh noo...
She does well to express it, but if you want a true insight into depression. Listen to Empires of loneliness by Swallow the sun.
Based on "Lithium", I think you mean Bipolar disorder...
this song is my life. All my friends think that I'm some perfect little girl who doesn't have any feelings and they just pour all of their pain onto me, not caring that I have no one to pour my pain onto. It really hurts, and I seriously think they don't know that I have feelings...
+Zoie Gal Have you considered talking to them about this? Much pain goes unsung as people simply dont talk about their feelings :/
+Zoie Gal Yep same here even if I tell them how I feel and sad thing is I'm an adult. The struggle is real.
I feel your pain. At school my friends pour pain all over me. They think I'm perfect but I'm not. A kid once said "not everyone is perfect like you" just because I told someone to try harder. Just use a stress ball or something if you're feeling down or mad. :) you aren't alone.
+Zoie Gal none of mine noticed when i was anorexic. none of them noticed me cutting my legs. none of them noticed my depression. none of them noticed when i tried to kill myself by overdosing on ibuprofen. they just pour their problems on me and expect me to fix them. some people just need to open their eyes to the people around them. they dont notice ME (I found out after that ibuprofen cant kill you)
Maybe its time for you all to move on and leave those dipshits behind. Life is full of people that have suffered emotionally, maybe you will find someone that went through stuff too! I hope you can find peace of mind sooner or later!!! "Carry on my wayward son! There'll be peace when you are done!" Life is all about the journey. I really wish you will find someone worthy to walk the path with you!!!!!!!
There is nothing better than a good lie 🥺 This song tells 1001 stories, human stories and how people hide behind their “happiness” , “perfect life” and “I’m ok”.
Taking a trip down memory lane with this timeless gem! 🎶
Those were the days - carefree, full of life, and a soundtrack that still hits hard.
As I approach 39, I can't help but wonder: Where are you, the youth of my golden generation? ❤🔥
Let's relive those moments together and keep the spirit alive! 🎤
This song was way ahead of its time.
Actually it wasn't, all that pretending and fake stuff has been around for a very long time.
Yes it was exactly where it belong before the shitty music we have today so this comment was not spot on at all.
nah this song came at the right time any time later it would have had way less success
@Alejandro Barcenas wtf are you talking about?
She comes 😁
Can we just talk about Amy's eyes?! Like theyre gorgeous? Like i want them?
Her sisters have them, too. They get them from their father.
She has sisters too? Wow... (note to self... don't be that creepy old guy). Uh, I'm sure that they are also very talented and modestly attractive. Are any of them single? (note to self: Doh !!!! you're being a creepy old guy). Um, are any of them older than Amy? (note to self: now you sound really creepy -- just shut up). Um... I'm sure that they are all wonderful and wish for them all happiness and success.
Dean Champion Lol! I'm not sure about all that. You could Google it, though. :)
She has 3 and a brother. The third sister died when she was 3. Amy was 6, she adored her, it really messed her up. "Hello" from Fallen is reportedly about her sister.

Dude a fucken classic litteraly this song just poped up in my head haven’t heard in 7 years but was my favorite when I was like 8
Oh how this song is WAY more relevant in 2019 than it was in 2003. That's the kind of thing that happens when artists who keep it real and are true to themselves write truly inspirational music, the value only grows over time. Totally opposite of writing the usual, fake "whatever it most popular now" music that blows up quick and then is forgotten about as fast as it came around. Definitely a great song. A great song for great people, on an album that did a lot for everyone who listened to it.
Yes, it applies now more than ever..."icons of self-indulgence"
You are so true. It's a serious epidemic. I think it's gonna be worse
This song was, is, and will always be relevant as long as the pop music industry is around
You got me
I don't feel like it's "WAY more relevant". Maybe you just had a different experience in 2003 than some of us. I was a teenage girl then and popstars did our self-esteem no favours. The difference now is there is even more 'reality' entertainment and it's gotten just as fake as showbiz was back then. It's an added layer of betrayal because 'reality' and CZcams were supposed to be 'real', but fakery was just as rampant back then.
This song is timeless!
Never gets old.
Ahmed360 'cause pain is timeless
Thats right.
Thats a genius girl all i have to say because using your words "this song is timeless" is that what makes a geniurs. "Timeless"

@Dgns that is true
I think it’s over medicating people today. One of the main side effects to a lot of prescription meds is worsening depression/suicide…my big sister was not suicidal until she was prescribed meds like a guinea pig. She took her life after 3 years of prescription meds. They messed with her brain chemicals and made her so depressed. Listening to Evanescence over the years I never really took consideration of this song, but if you listen to the lyrics and Amy's beautiful, yet almost desperate voice... You can't help but fall in love with the song. It's now one of my favourite songs EVER!
The first time I ever listened to Fallen, this song was my favorite jam and still is of the harder songs among the album too besides Tourniquet. Shes the greatest female singer alive to me, hands down, greatest most beautiful voice ever. In my opinion at least lol
yeah but tourniquet was on another level, her songs are so emotional
Make your words my words. It took me a while to recognize how this song has good sound and content, as long as I avoided hearing it once.
Amy said in a interview that inspiration for this song was Britney Spears career ( Britney was on top 2000’s definitely ) And after all what Britney said in court in 2021 Amy words were so damn true :(
yeah but that wasn't in a good way, I love Amy but she talked shit about britney
I also read she's grown away from this song and said everyone has their battles in life.
@@SmartWentCrazy So, I was right in my other comment, it wasn't all a fever dream I had. :D I meant that I read that she said it and how she was an angsty young rebel back then, with the red eyeliner and messy hairstyle.
@@whotf4618 actually, the tabloids tried getting her to talk crap about Brit but she kept shutting them down and even defended her at some point. This song is so underrated, it hurts. It really shows reality nowadays... always pretending being cool on social media and sometimes even in reality when pretty much everyone is broken up inside living just a shallow life. It shows what we have become these days. How sad!
And the students these days... They make it worse....ik this because i'm a student but i try to be the best i can be...

I blame the Kardashians.
Yeah, my son showed this video to me years ago. I burst into tears, and he felt terrible. He didn't know that my relationship with his dad was grounded in his dad's lies. It really sucked sharing that.
Amy Lee warned us about false advertising, unrealistic beauty standards, the pressures of being a woman in the music industry, the chronic epidemic of loneliness and despair, the struggle of not fitting in, and the dangers of blindly following those in power without questioning their motives, yet shows the power of what we can be when we be ourselves and seek the truth. This video predicted so much of the societal ills we have today in the Instagram, TikTok, and social media generation. Everybody’s Fool was so ahead of its time and we were fools not to listen.
You nailed it, not to mention how much we bully each other. I’ve struggled with bullying and body dysmorphia my whole life and this video saved me. I tear up every time I hear this song. Thank you Amy, you have saved so many lives with your music and we will never forget it.
Not to mention the attention economy, bullying, mental health issues, and also how ridiculous beverage advertisements have become (*cough cough Prime). This is why we love you Amy!! You will always be in our hearts.

Her music helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life from being bullied and assaulted for being queer, self harm, body image issues, the loneliness & isolation that comes with being different. Strange how.. music used to be much more depressing back in the early '00. I mean... if you were depressed, left oud, or sad, .. there sure were many songs you could see yourself in. And that, feeling undestood maybe, is the reason why many faced their fears and healed, eventually.
Nowadays you don't see videos like this one, and you don't hear such depressing songs. It just seams to me that everybody is so focused on faking this "super cool, happy, sexy, fabulous" life, and showing it up to everybody, on social medias as well in the music industry. It feels like there's no space for people to feel alone, wrong, different or blue.
And that's the reason why many people now can't make it through.
I feel like with everything going on right now. We're going to have more depressing songs. But they can help people get through hard times
@jiji Ha Yup, it validates your feelings for a while, but then just sucks you in deeper and deeper to stay in that state of mind forever. Self-programming, pure psychology.

I just realized this song is about depression, faking happiness, and possibly anxiety, not rivalry and being an outcast-
edit: for everyone correcting me in the replies: this was seven months ago, and I am a random person online, with my own views and opinions. you all have your own views too, but cmon. seriously?
I guess it could be interpreted both ways? But yeah, to me it's more about having to take happiness to hide what's really going on in your head
I think I read somewhere it's kind of about Britney Spears when she went through her breakdown.
@@michaelpeck573 Yeah that would make sense
I like it as a reflection of how those perceived as perfect and having it all are just under a different type of pressure, so become depressed for different reasons.
There was a model years ago who was interviewed and given immense grief because her photos had been doctored by literally cutting oval shapes out of the mid section and pasting the two sides together.
She hadn't done this, and she never claimed to be that slim. But she was the target of the abuse.
In truth of course this was going on with a number of photos. Faking the unattainable isn't new. The people in that industry becoming depressed due to attacks from all sides isn't either.
I won't be a hypocrite and say just be happy with who you are. I hated who I was and spent years becoming someone I liked. I will say be who you want to be and are happy being as much as you can rather than being driven into being someone you hate.
as long as there's no official explanation, it can be interpreted any way you want

Banda de rock con gran talento artístico, uno de mis temas favoritos de Evanescence, no sólo por la voy y música, sino por el mensaje que contiene la canción.
Who else thinks there should be more song artists like this?
cat mlprandom unleashed by Epica kinda sounds like this, but better
cat mlprandom There actually is a good few. Linkin Park, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, (Guessing u never heard them :P) etc.

17 years later, if you're watching this, you're a legend.
13 years ago my 14 year old mess cried bloody angst with this song BLASTING on my iPod nano
Bro i am 17 years old and i love this song so much🔥🔥🤟🤟🔥🔥
Best song ever
Nostálgic very
Thank you... I'm forever a legend then! ❤️
Long live Amy Lee!!
This song is still so real and pretty much can apply to anyone feeling pressure to conform or fit in to standards that are unrealistic/hurtful. Great mv, great song, simply great.
Listening to this in my late 30's hits different. Amy Lee and Chester Bennington knew how to tell our stories...
Aqui ela foi cirúrgica e grandiosa.
Everbody's Foll a frete do seu tempo, soa tao atual que é assustador. Lenda!

Darker and more straightforward version of Britney Spears' s "Lucky"
Yep pretty much
I hear it.
Typical poser answer😄🤗
@@elfonero1492 it’s true tho both songs are great
I heard this song is a love letter to Britney Spears at the peak of her popularity.
So far, every song I've heard from Evanescence is fantastic!
Of course I have listened to Evanescence, but I find this song very mature and very rich. Wonderful!
Holy crap I thought that beginning part was a real CZcams commercial.
Me too before XD
Yeh me too
Me too! Lol
Meto i was da fu
omg same haha
I fool my family with the fake smile and that's a good thing for me.
I can make them smile when I'm hurt....
yup... same here..
Its sucks....
its all going to be oki thought...
No a girl I like might die... and I can't..
Me too... But, someday, you will have a person that '' save '' you... I have a friend like me, but she never smile, now, i make she smile :) and that make me smile. Everythings not lost!
She was so ahead of her time.. insane
Rewatching this video and this song now as an adult hits different
I always feel so dark when the video gets to the scene where she's on the roof in tears and yelling at her blown up photo across from her. There is something so gut wrenching about that particular scene. It gets me every single time. I absolutely love this.
I know exactly what you mean.
Yeah, I actually felt bad for her then, like she's wasn't acting and it was all from the heart. Either that, or best actress ever.
Nah, for me the most powerful scene is when she punches the mirror and cuts her hand up. I've had that happen and it just hurts so much...
Jackie Smash I feel it too
i wonder what she thought of when that scene hit like should i or shouldn't i and can they stop the bleeding if i do? stuff like that :)
"You're not real and you can't save me." Sang to this fake "better" version of herself... honestly I'm so thankful I grew up to this, so thankful I got out of that mental place in my life.
Новых приключений, брат. ❤❤❤ мы будем скучать
This issss fireee❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
I really thought the intro was an actual unskippable ad
yeah, i was on another tab and I was like wtf is that
HAHAHAH
Dude the first time I watched the video I had to go back because I ignored it😂

This is our society.
This is each one of us.
Ignorance is a blessing, you don't have to think...
I live inside of a crayon. Does that still count?

"Ignorance is a blessing"
I guess you could say it's our new best friend?

Just great. I love the clip!
Amy was the voice of my soul, love her amazing voice👏
Evanescence - Everybody's Fool
[Verse 1]
Perfect by nature
Icons of self-indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
[Chorus]
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame, don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled
[Verse 2]
Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh, how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she
[Chorus]
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
[Bridge]
Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can't find yourself
Lost in your lie
I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore
[Chorus]
It never was and never will be
You don't know how you betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
And somehow now you're everybody's fool
não da pra virar um kid bengala, mas melhorei muito mano, da hora funciona mesmo
.
*2020: Watching a 2000's clip mimicking an 80's commercial. Man, I'm old!*
Don't worry brother, you're amongst friends! Gen X
Always here! 😍
@@JasonRyanWilson That's comforting, Thanks
2003 was a year for a great change and influence in music. Evanescence still rocks into 2021
