    OMG.. This is Effing Brilliant! I Saw this movie in theater, and I always felt it wasn't that bad. Not the Best, but not bad.. But this scene right here always felt detached from the emotion it was trying to portray, and I always felt like the film was being disingenuous to a certain extent because we weren't dealing with a mirror of Picard, we were dealing with Tom Hardy. For this scene; Why would anyone be stunned by the revealing of Tom Hardy? What this scene was missing was a mirror of Picard, and thats what this video brings us. You finely get the deep emotional impact that Picard is going through when he looks at himself when the Lights go up (four levels) and not Tom Hardy. Absolutely Brilliant! Too bad the entire movie couldn't be done like this. It would probably make it a much better film overall.
    Honestly, the face is the only thing that needs to change. You can keep the Tom Hardy voice, and the totally shaved head. The Tom Hardy voice could be a result of the life Shinzon lead, and maybe he chose to be completely bald as that is often what warrior cultures do (hair gives an opponent an easy way to grab you). They could have gotten away with Shinzon looking as Old as Picard by running with the fact that Shinzon was engineered to skip 30 years of his life, but in this case, that actually happened. They could say that the reason for Shinzon needing to Nab Picard was because of another genetic reason that would cause him to die if he doesn't get a complete blood transfusion. God, I just love this! :D

      @Reticuli Před 3 lety +3

      The main problem with the film is simply that the director, who ironically was a famous editor, butchered the final cut when he should have left nearly every scene in. The film's villain still could have been written better and the whole plot wasn't the most brilliant, but even with the material they had, that director dropped the ball.

    • @Felamine
      @Felamine Před rokem +2

      I think actors are too hard on themselves (and people are too hard on actors) when a movie bombs. Nemesis had a lot of problems and Tom Hardy's performance was among the least of them. Unfortunately actors are the "faces" of a movie or show so they get a lot of undue blame if it's a bad one.
      Hardy did the best he could do with such a poorly written character.

Thus begins Shinzon's deep lifelong resentment towards Picard because his existence as an visually inferior version of the famed Starfleet captain. That would've eliminated the need of Shinzon looking 90% the same as Picard, focusing instead on Hardy's acting chops!

As if it was just the lighting that made him look older and like Jean Luc, another step into the light and hes Tom Hardy. I know it's 2002 but just literally shoot Patrick Stewart in the dark, hide some of the age with make up, do a shadow cut, it would've worked.

Had the tech been then as it is now a processed Picard face, de-aged so he looks much younger, would work much better but this shows how that could have been. As the film is the match isn't terrible it just isn't quite right. Lips too big, etc. The video here isn't either imho.

      I liked Star Trek: Nemesis, which is why I did this video two and one-half years ago. As to the video not being quite right, that's a reflection of the state of the technology back in 2019. I did an updated, longer version which you can see here: czcams.com/video/tcIHD26w3b0/video.html. I read an interesting rumor that Tom Hardy as Shinzon might return in Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard: wegotthiscovered.com/movies/paramount-reportedly-tom-hardy-star-trek-universe/. Perhaps Paramount will use deep-learning or hire a deepfake artist like myself this time around.

      @@DeepHomage hey the update looks much better! Superb in fact. Better than what is in the movie. Nice job! I searched for this and it gave me the older one. I tell ya, if they need someone they should hire you. I'm still going through NG, will start DS9 once I reach the place it originally aired while NG was. Later Voyager, etc. So it's slow going. Most of these I have never seen. 60% of NG, 95% of DS9 and 100% of Voyager/Enterprise/etc I'll be seeing for the first time.

      @DeepHomage  Před 3 lety

      I considered "Dune" (Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck) but there weren't enough "young" and usable faces from "Dune." It takes thousands of faces, from several movies, to train a model.

    Props for the effort, but this one is begging to be redone. There's so much existing footage of young Patrick Stewart that there's no reason this shouldn't look at least 10x better.

    • @DeepHomage
      @DeepHomage  Před 2 lety +2

      It has been redone: czcams.com/video/tcIHD26w3b0/video.html. At the risk of repeating myself, there is footage of young Patrick Stewart (in "I Claudius") and a young (but bearded) Stewart in "Dune." There's a lot of footage alright, but it's DVD or VHS quality or worse, and not really suitable for training a computer model.
