- Dark armpits can have many different causes. There's no straightforward answer.
The axilla skin is at baseline more sensitive area. Applying products with AHAs, niacinamide, retinol...often can induce more irritation, exacerbating underlying hyperpigmentation
Best treatment is to properly address the underlying cause.

Facts! Cause for example if you have dermatitis neglecta or razor burn or build up, not shaving and gentle exfoliants will fix it but then if you acanthosis nigricans then exfoliants will further irritate it!

My armpits and nipples got very dark during my first pregnancy and stayed dark long after my 4th pregnancy. I'm guessing that was due to hormones.??
This can also be caused by type 2 diabetes
Some deodorants/antiperspirants can cause a bit of discoloration too(usually the ones that contain aluminum salts). Not necessarily the case ofc, but I think this one is pretty easy to rule out lol
What's wild is that my body loves aluminum, which is what works in antiperspirant, but baking soda in natural aluminum free deodorants caused dark armpits for me. I began to lighten up once I switched to a fragrance free gel aluminum antiperspirant
Yes! One I see that people have common issues with is lavender. I’ve been using aluminum free deodorant for years and I recently bought a new lavender scented one but then noticed my underarms were getting a bit darker and just irritated and it was like there was a buildup of cells or whatever and exfoliating slightly helped but then I saw someone online say they had a bad experience with with lavender deodorant so I switched to a different one (from the same brand though, so same exact deodorant just not lavender), and it literally cleared up and went back to normal in a week! The one I use is still scented but if you don’t know your sensitivities then unscented is probably the safest bet!

But the annoying thing is, I've already found the deodorant that works for me that has aluminum in it. So I'm probably not gonna go testing different natural deodorants. Especially I think the cause for my discoloration is shaving? Since I haven't applied deodorant in a while. I'll still stick to shaving but doing the lemon method to lighten it

Cold pressed coconut oil baking soda leave it on there for about 45 minutes before you take a shower wipe off with the soap or body wash and it comes right off

I have this dark armpit since I was a kid and still now I have I need remedy for it
if u have since kid i guess it is Acanthosis nigricans(AN). This means your body cannot regulate insulin properly hence not getting nutrients. This comes from genes. One way is to correct your lifestyle, eat nutritious meal reduce suger and other form of it . sleep on time. second is show to your skin doctor if its local dermatologist they will give you some creme to apply which usually doesnt work but instead ask them the reason and how to correct this condition because if you don't correct insulin stuff darkness may come back.
I have shown this to many local dermatologist but none of them really told me the reason until I visited cosmetologist and they ask me to reduce weight and have proper healthy food.
@sia4330 After the visit to your Cosmetologist, has the condition become better or is it still same dear? Asking to see if it’s possible to actually get rid of it completely.
Waxing the hairs on the armpits will help and allowing air to flow to those regions. I appreciate your honesty.
Just watched a video where another MD mentioned that could be a sign of a pre-diabetic condition alongside skin tags an other velvety skin conditions (like the dark pits in this short…)
My armpits get dark from too much friction when I shave, and so the best way to treat that is to keep my pit hair long 💫 and shave for special occasions.

When I use the cheap toxic deodorant. My armpits look normal, but when I use more natural deodorant, it leaves a dark patch.
My armpits get worse before when i tried those products that recommended by my friends, i used alot of products instead of a life changing it become a life threatening coz its burning, have rashes and painful. I immediately stop, and never try again. I thinks it depends on our skin type some of us become okay and some get worse😒😒😒

It's weird cos when I was younger my armpits were dark but now they're not. The only difference is now I don't go out much and I never wear anything that would show my armpits so I don't shave anymore unless I have to. Must have been a shaving thing for me
Yes I believe shaving might cause it considering the deodorant fully touches the bare skin but I’m not sure
You are allergic to nickel from razors but a special one it might help try it and shave with that and see if it helps

I am too 😢 I’m dark but my underarms are darker and I put Joban makeup concealer deodorant on them. It does wonder but I can’t wear light colored clothing

Can someone help me I ruined my skin by applying glycolic acid in my knees elbows and bikini area my skin used to be light but I decided to apply it. That's a bias you have to work on. Skin conditions, blemishes, dark spots, acne, etc aren't signs of poor hygiene and that doesn't mean that a person is "lazy" or "less than". Our skin is the largest organ, which means that sometimes it reacts or acts in ways beyond someone's control.
ppl say the same thing about acne with not washing their face, moral of the story is to stop making such ignorant assumptions bc you never know the whole story ❤️
