- Mountain horned dragons (Acanthosaura spp.) are some incredible lizards. They look amazing, and are a very reasonable size, but are they the right pet lizard for you?

You guys are so RAD!
This is an awesome cool lizard! But yup it's not for me! Thank you! I love these videos!!
And that is exactly why we make these videos right there!
Question why the end score is 3/5? Should it not be 3.2 out of 5 since you gave it 4 in handling and 3 in everything else?
The little guy skittering away with his gangly legs made me chuckle. Almost as cute as a crestie splat. 💚🦎
It is a cute little scuttle.
Cuter.
Got me too
Bought my wife on four years ago and it’s the coolest lizard. It seems to love being held by my wife, it goes to sleep on her shoulder every evening.
Thanks for showing everybody lizards I never heard of or seen. :)
You bet! There are some rad ones out there :)
I really like Agamids being referred as 'dragons'. Particularly my country Malaysia has a whole lot of dragons. Forest Dragons,Water Dragons,Garden Dragons etc. When I have all of 'em y'all can call me the Mother of Dragons
You live in the land of the dragons🐉
you own forest dragon?
Goals
I can fulfill my wishlist of having a chameleon, frilled dragon & iguana rolled into one with this lizard!
I had a Mountain Horned Dragon for about 10 years. Used to see them everywhere and now I can barely find them. Went to a reptile show recently and there was only one vendor with two dragons available. Not sure why they dropped out of popularity, but they're very cool lizards. Hoping to get another one soon.
Thanks for the awesome video!
I noticed that as well. A Mountain Horned Dragon used to be on my want list but I don't see them anymore either. Maybe it's due to lack of export/breeding 🤔
Lol the head climbing is cute he has to peek over the edge to see what's going on
Noggin dragon!
Im volunteering at a nature center near where i live for my future career as a zoologist, herpatoligist and a biologist,im 12 and am doing it to learn about animals around where i live and to learn just about animals in general and i start next week 😄
That sounds amazing! I like where you're going and it seems like you are making great choices that will make it very likely that you will achieve your goals. Well done!
Good luck!
Fallout Boy profile. Animal lover. Are you my child from the future??? dont give up on your goals!
Good luck to you young man! Need more young people like yourself to love and understand and respect reptiles.
Let's talk about your socks matching your tie and your pants. Tip of the hat to you on that, sir.
If you can match, why would you not match?
what is matching? I believe our human minds are too use to uniformity or maybe it's a universal fact that some colors compliment each other & some don't ...🤔
Cause it takes time out of your day and it's easier to just have mismatched socks XD
16:05 LOL that squiddly walk and jump.
He looks so derpy, but it's a cute kind of derp.
“Excessive day changer”. Love that expression. Haha. Yes poop can do that.
My insomnia finally gave me something good
It all works out in the end :)
Then I definitely ended up with one of those dehydrated and sick imports. I had my enclosure set up just like recommended in this video and my mountain horn dragon still died in a short time of purchasing. This was years ago. Would be great if they do become popular enough for captive breading programs. One of the coolest lizards that you will ever see. Those poses made for some nice close-up shots and were awesome lol
these guys look hilarious just standing on the table i am losing it 😭
I have one, and she’s definitely something!! I will say though be sure to make sure they’re captive bred, I’ve bought two before not knowing they were wild caught and the parasites in them were more than I could ever expect! Other than that, they’re absolutely amazing to keep, especially in groups
thank you for this video! i have one of my own and there’s barely any videos on them online and seeing one of my favorite youtubers make one on them is so refreshing. awesome video
Did you get a captive bred? Can you provide me with a link for one?
INonStopWin sorry for the late reply, i don’t know where to get them online as mine was a rescue off craigslist.
Weird agamids are just the best, I love 'em
Agreed!
This is... the goofiest looking lizard I have ever seen.
@@GayleenFroese are you a breeder? I'm looking for a captive bred one
Who are they? I really want one captive bred.
Rewatching these videos never gets old!
I love how you always say "this is the coolest pet lizard you could possibly get" with almost every single lizard. And every single time somehow, you're right! lol
I love how honest and wholesome your videos are.
That little guy is adorable! I love his scurry! Too cute!
I have no idea how this only just now popped up in my recommendations. These guys are adorable! It's a shame they aren't often captive bred. I may decide to try my hand at breeding them.
I asked for this almost a year ago and it was worth the wait! Thanks, man. Such a great video. This is my next pet...I'm also working on my advanced degree and am rewarding myself with a cbb after oral boards this fall. It WILL live longer than 5 years though.
he's so gangly and goofy i love it
great video as always, also definitely please keep doing those outtakes at the end, they're so fun to watch
They also LOVE earthworms!!
Great tip!
Sooo true
Gorgeous little critter
I loved this! I actually woke my husband up cause I was LOLing at him climbing on your head then the close up shot, i lost it! Thank you for making these videos not only educational but entertaining as well!!
Great video man! Just started to carry these at work and this video has given me a great deal of knowledge. Thanks
Thank you for the video, as always. Could you make a video about general biology of reptiles - things like how shedding works, how some reptiles are able to drop their tails and grow another, do they have hollow bones like birds. I'm sure there are lots of interesting details to learn about them.
We intend to do many things like that. Great suggestions!
@@ClintsReptiles amazing idea!
seriously don't know why i don't see more of these guys! I have had one for a year and they make great pets!
Wow amazingly great video Clint! I am proud of you and your team for posting three times this week! It will definitely help your channel to sky rocket which you all deserve! If you guys plan on keeping this new schedule it would cool to see new videos on breeding, hatching 🐣 and care videos on new babies! Keep up the hard work Clint and Team! ❤️
I love learning about reptiles being repaired to each other! I had never heard of agamids before your channel and never would have thought that these three lizards--bearded dragons, frilled lizards and now the star of this video--really had anything special in common.
I love your vids. So educational. Great for my lil niece who wants some reptiles in her life.
Thank u for all the info i seen one in a pet store once an i loved it now i know a lot more about them
I have never heard of this. Learn something new every day.
Mission accomplished :)
Oh you’re in Utah! I’m adopting one of these guys from my friend because her son isn’t the best with it haha. Doing my research :) very excited
Just fyi for those thinking about getting one: females lay eggs multiple times per year with or without a mate and this can be so hard on the females btw. My female needs to be hand fed after laying for a few days while she recuperates.
I never knew about these, they seem really awesome!
Well they cute and cuddly
At least one of those things :)
Thank you so much!!! Your personality is awesome , really likable and weird in a good way haha! Super educational and I understood everything being a bilingual ! Thank you so much I just got myself a Horned Dragon super cool one chills all the time don't run around much perfect for friends to come and look at ! And love this video ! Got yourself a LIKE and Subscribe!!! Thank you again! Keep making videos like this ! Thank You!!!
So cute!
I had one of these, he was the most relaxed lizard I've ever seen!
WOW! First time hearing about this lizard, but I love it already!!
I love how you said it's like Godzilla I'm a fan.
Love your vids Clint tysm
That is probably the coolest thing I have EVER seen.
Loved this video, helps with me with a bit more insight of what to expect, I recently got a lovely captive bred last week! Got all of the things for him as soon as and he's happy as can be! (Named him Seb; he's a 2-3 months) 😁
Awesome little lizards love their eyes!
I've had one, one of my favorites
*thinks to self* Ah yes, now I have heard of the strangest lizards the pet trade has to offer.
*See's Clint's video in feed* What. Is. That?
We haven't even begun to get crazy!
@@ClintsReptiles Keep 'em coming! I love crazy and unusual!
Love this channel, Nearly every one is gushing about how great the lizards are (not you iguana) but also will list the negatives.
Or the Savanna Monitor lol.
I saw these at an expo about a year ago and I would love to have one some day. They're so beautiful
Every time i watch these vids i am sold on the lizard presented 😂
There are so many great lizards out there. Choosing can be difficult. Hopefully it is nice to know your options :)
I love these videos! You should do one on secret toad-headed agamas!
Clint genuinely loves lizards; exhibit A. Great video!
I love your videos. Every lizard is one of the coolest lizards in the world
Incredibly characterful eyes!
Wow.... I really like that one !
Good morning Clint!
Good morning :)
Had one for a couple years as a kid , it was pretty chill , it'd hang out on my shoulder or hat , I wonder if it was wild caught or something because it just kinda died one day , not sure why
Yay new video! Day: 1000000 times better!!!
Wow, that is a major improvement :)
@@ClintsReptiles Just out of curiosity do you own a carpet python? And would you ever do a video on one?
Yes and we already filmed it. Make sure you clicked the bell, it will be out soon!
@@ClintsReptiles Awesome! Already clicked the notification bell, hyped for the video now XD
This is such an amazing lizard. I’ve always liked lizards with green scales for some reason, and it looks just like a miniature Chinese water dragons.
What a nice little guy! Didnt know about these 🦎🙂
Mission accomplished :)
The Best lizard on the Channel So far. Love it. Please do some dart frogs :)
What a unique lizard! I had heard/read a bit about them....but they are even more fascinating now!
They're very cool. I wish they weren't so common as imports so more breeders would work with them.
Clint's Reptiles one of the many things I love about your channel is that you emphasize the importance of captive-breeding programs 👍
Thank you. As an ecologist and as a reptile enthusiast it just seems of the utmost importance.
Wish I could *like* twice for the scene with you having the lizard on your head for the whole segment 😂😂😂
Always enjoy your videos. I bought a CB Mountain Horned lizard a month ago at an expo ($25) from the guy I previously bought a chameleon from (not a good idea for me lol). I absolutely love my little guy, Adonis. I don't think they get the recognition they deserve. They truly are amazing creatures. Along with him I have a Gargoyle gecko, 2 veiled chameleons, 24 ball pythons, a corn snake and 2 boas. Think I may have a reptile addiction lol. A painted Agama is next on my list (thanks to your other video ha ha). Unfortunately my beardie passed away a few months ago.
Yay, now its time to binge research and see if there are any breeders I can buy them from.
Thank you for continuing to research even after the video is over!
I've seen these before and I'd like to keep one some day
Well done Mtn Dragon, Acanthosaurus, video. I sure hope there are breeders carrying on where l left off 15 years ago. These are amazing animals. The Lepidogaster is even easier to breed and incubate than the Capra but not as readily available, probably because of their small size.
Aww, they're so cute looking. They look like a cartoon character.
I love to learn about lizards I did not know existed.
Maybe that is something that will move into my big vivarium. But I think it'll be the cruziohyla craspedopus that will move into the big viv.
They're so cool!
I totally agree!
And adorable too. Especially when he climbed on top of your head! 😂
Silly little guys :)
I kept these guys for a while and even had a male make it to 9 years old :-) little secret, they do incredibly well on a diet of Canadian nightcrawlers. Just put some coconut fiber and sand in a Rubbermaid tote, get some nightcrawlers, put nightcrawlers in tote....feed them foodscraps. Never ending gutloaded mountain horned dragon food! They will eat them right out of your hand. Since the worms are so big, 1-2 a day are all you need per dragon :-) hope that helps anyone who's interested
That's a great tip!
I was just doing research on these. Seem like amazing lizards.
Captive bred they sure can be. Of course, if we're not talking as pets, then that statement is just inarguably true.
Awesome video! I had never seen these magnificent lizards before but I must say that they are beautiful. Could you make a video on setting up a leopard gecko tank. Im getting one soon and I want to make sure I have the right setup. Thank You!
We might, but it may or may not be super soon.
@@ClintsReptiles ok! Thanks for trying!
I am actually making a 55 gallon aquaterrarium for one of these little guys. Can't wait!!
As someone who lives in the UK where keeping a house roasting hot can be pretty tough year round one of these guys actually seems perfect, never seen one before, so weird looking lizard in the best possible way, so glad I've seen this video, this may be absolutely perfect for me as someone who has wanted a reptile for a long time but never been super interested in the common bearded dragons and stuff and a euromastyx likes things a bit too warm for my ability to maintain (love em both just don't want one) I really want one of these guys.
Best pet amphibian marine toad? Great videos as always your gonna blow up on CZcams soon mark my words:)
If I can find one. Thank you for the encouragement.
I had one of these a long time ago. Pretty sure it was an import, and she didn't live terribly long, but boy was she fun. She hated being disturbed during the day (big blue mouth!), but at night you can get her to hang out with you. And every time, she'd go right for the top of my head. Heh. Really great little lizards. Would try to keep one again, but from a breeder.
That is the single most strange lizard I have ever seen and I think I'm in love.
I want one of these so much...
Very good video..with an amazing lizard to,and you can do a educational video about tuataras pls
Thank you so much!
Hopefully you cover Sailfin 🐲 later. Much love!
When I can find one :)
@@ClintsReptiles sailfindragons.com is going to have trybrids soon :O but I can imagine you don't have an 8x3x4 enclosure lying around spare
Hey Clint, love your videos! Question, any chance you have plans to do videos on different turtle species? I'd love to see you cover different types of box/aquatic turtles. Also, if you're ever planning on a video on box turtles, western ornates are hard to find, and I have a healthy 18 year old one that would love to be on your show 👍
It's like a cartoon caricature of a lizard
Could you do one about desert iguanas? I think they're super underrated personally!
Really enjoy your videos Clint. Hopefully one day you can make a video on arboreal snakes. Keep up the great content.
Any snake in particular?
@@ClintsReptiles I'm very interested in Green Tree pythons, but would also be awesome learning about other kinds of arboreal species
Nice. I'll try to get to them soon.
My son had one and it was an Awesome pet. His name was DEZ. He was an adult when we got him, so he only lived for a little over 2 years. He was a good eater (loved giant mealworms, horn worms and wax worms, but his FAVORITE were Nightcrawlers!). Yeah you do need to mist them often. He loved to be handled, but he would suddenly jump from your hand to your shirt or head, just like this guy did in the video. But he was a wonderful pet lizard!
Those eyes!
I had a female MHD for a short time as a teen. My (now) husband who didn't know better got me one, wild caught of course. I only had her for about a year before she crashed. The few vet visits didn't help. My husband knows better now. But she was still a great lizard, very personable. Would definitely enjoy one again, of the CB variety xD
Looks like a miniature Carnotaurus
Hi Clint! Can you do a video about the 5 best pet tarantulas or arachnids? Would love to see that :)
I just might.
Another great video Clint. Are collared lizards something you think you’ll make a “best pet reptile” video on eventually?
Thank you and for sure!
I need one!! 🐉
that is the silliest-looking lizard run i've ever seen
“I’ve concurred Mount Clint”
😂
I would love to see a series of videos on reptiles that you DON"T recommend as pets (either for conservation or practical purposes. Though, the way I worded that did also make me think, a series on the worst pet reptiles to keep could also be entertaining :P
There are many terrible pet reptiles, and we are trying to highlight them as well as the great ones. We have a video on a really bad one coming up.
Ooh please do common garden lizard please
They're awesome
