Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret came from the same parents, likely had the same medical attention, nourishment and protection. The Queen lived to be 96 and Margaret died at 71. That says to me that the Queen's clean living, compared to being a party girl, like Princess Margaret, who smoked, drank and yahooed, is the way to live a long life.
I believe that PRINCESS MARGARET, just like her father and grandfathers died from consequences of lung cancer. I also believed that Queen Elizabeth II never smoked which may account for her longevity.
@@BarbaraMacDonald-bq1lb Did your family have a history of lung cancer? I know George VI had an entire lung removed but the cancer had already spread to the other lobes.
I absolutely LOVED this broadcast Neil, thank you so much. It was a fun, lighthearted glimpse behind the scenes of Princess Margaret's determination to do as she pleased, and I always admired her for that.
Both Magaret and Elisabeth were born into elite society but it did not come with the constraints of the RF in situ. Nobody envisaged that Uncle Edward would fall for an American divorcee and nobody would have believed that it would end with his abdication. George was not raised to be King but took on the role dutufully. Suddenly the life that the two young girls may have aspired to, changed radically. With WWII in the middle they were indeed complicated times. When King George died young, there was no escape. Suddenly a beautiful young woman was crowned Queen and her equally beautiful fun-loving sister, Princess Magaret would spend the rest of her life under public scrutiny.
It makes me smile that young people now a days seem to think that they have invented scandal and being wild.....no, it has been happening in one way or another for ever 😊
Lovely to see you Neil. Princess Margaret was a very beautiful woman and full of life. It must have been fun to be with her. Thank you for sharing this story.🇺🇲❤️
Neil, you have come up with some of the most interesting stories on the history of London. One wonders if Princess Margaret was ever really happy. It is also interesting of the music she enjoyed listening to.
Hello Neil, A fascinating insight into post-war London nightlife, and I loved the polite way you described Princess Margaret as being "refreshed." 😁 Penny from Christchurch. 🇬🇧
Great video thank you Neil. I remember the times when Princess Margaret was a "wild" party goer, but she was heart broken when she couldn't marry her true love Peter Townsend. Protocol forbade it, so who could deny her the gay life. Today? no problem.!!
Big wave 🖐Neil and Chums 🙋♀ I so love your historical vignettes, Neil, and the vintage tidbits you run in the background are riveting ❣ Your reports are stimulating, interesting, and entertaining, all rolled into one. A complete package! Thank you for sharing your insights with us 🥰
Fascinating to hear all these stories. I found this one particularly fascinating because of the people who attended the club. They could literally almost get away with murder then and no doubt some did.
My aunt, met many royals in her QARANC army nursing career and she got annoyed by Princess Margaret, who would ignore the special parades citing a migraine. Then at night she’d party the night away till the early mornings. Not good for troops who had to be up early for their work. She did get a Red Cross medal from the late Queen for her service in various countries, including Northern Ireland when the awful IRA, protestants war was on. Adore your history stories now live in Australia. I’d hate to be back in London nowadays, With all the stupid, violent protesters, crimes ignored but offensive words laws in place. SNP get worse daily ,born there and even at 15 been anti SNP ,imo UK needs to stick together and not lose the true British spirit. Your CZcams videos are always great thank you..
Fascinating! Thank you, Neil, for these entertaining stories. I really enjoy them. I also felt a touch of nostalgia when I saw the Empire magazine. Sadly those days seem like just a dream now, everyone was so patriotic.
Hello Neil 👋👋👋. You are a wonder....what a story and thank you for sharing it. My Grandparents always used to say Princess Margaret was both jealous that she wasn't the firstborn and also spoilt rotten by her parents...particularly George VI. So much so she made life extremely difficult for her very proper and protocol adhering older sister and Monarch who both loved and supported her younger sister but was also exasperated by her. Who today would have guessed about London's seedier nightlife enjoyed by such erudite clientele?
This was very interesting, Neil. My teenage years were in the wonderful 70s, but I sometimes think I might like to have been born earlier so I could have experienced my teens in the 60s especially.
Any can see the horses are well looked after some know it all folk can't help sticking their noses in you can bet most of them don't know anything about horses they've just got to have their say frequently and loudly.
Oh gosh! I remember the Deep River Boys. I went to a New Years Eve event in 1968-70ish, where they performed. It was a very good evening. They were well on in years but as good as ever.
Times have changed but habits haven’t -- nobody frowns at smokers and drinkers unless they are driving -- it’s more of a self regulation for health today
I love that word Neil - 'refreshed'. I haven't been 'refreshed' for many years since I gave up drinking. Sounds as though little has changed in scandals over members of the Royal Family. Although... one thing has changed. Today it would be lawyers and the threat of suing to prevent photos being published by the media; in those days it was a swim in the cement waistcoat or the opportunity to become part of a large building's foundations. Not sure what that says about lawyers...
Princess Margaret, beautiful, stylish and a real handful lol. Wish I’d have seen London in those days 😢I’m sure though hearing the stories from you Neil is just as good and better for my health 😂
Thank you Neil, I enjoy these posts, all the goings on , most of it was kept silent, and those reputations were on the whole left intact 🌻, far better than now where every pot of jam is advertised, 🌻
Based on the (alleged) stories that come out of soho house and other private clubs not sure that I agree with you that scandalous doings are always shared on social media - i just think of the "diddy" allegations.
🇭🇲🦘👋 "WOW!" That was absolutely fascinating Neil. With Queen Elizabeth II (at the time) being fully aware of a popular (but seedy) 'venue' frequented by her husband, her sister and a cousin (even if not at the same time). I can just imagine the many 'talks' (or arguments) that our dear 'late' Queen must have had, especially with her sister, regarding 'said' photographs etc. Of course the 'late' Princess Margaret hadn't done anything wrong, BUT it just wasn't a 'good look' if those photographs had been allowed to be published. Very interesting, and "Thank you" Neil xx 👔 ⭐👋

Princess Margaret was really beautiful looking.
She was indeed!
Movie Star Beautiful, both M and the Q. None of those looks have I feel resurfaced in subsquent generations.
Princess Margaret might of been a wild child but was not disrespectful to the family.
not

The smokers always go first...
My dad passed at 61years he was a smoker, my mother was also a smoker but lived till she was 87 😊
@@BarbaraMacDonald-bq1lb Did your family have a history of lung cancer? I know George VI had an entire lung removed but the cancer had already spread to the other lobes.
@@annkelly2589 Not necessarily. Usually it is a family history of cancer plus the smoking which is a deadly combination.
Good story. Princess Margaret took advantage of the freedom that the Queen didn't have. Good for her.
Margaret certainly did push everyone's buttons.
She had the nerve to call Diana letting the Royal family down😮
Thanks, Neil, for a fascinating story about London's cafe society in the early 1950s.
Here in the US, Princess Margaret might've got one or more of those musicians killed back then. What a handful she could be.
I will admit that I am more like Princess Margaret and my older sister is like Queen Elizabeth.
Oh my goodness, Neil, what juicy tales😄 Princess Margaret sounded like a “headache” for her sister and Mom. 😳
Thank you Neil its lovely to hear that the Princess was full of naughtiness and a fun person. Great snippet.
Love these stories, Neil! Princess Margaret really loved the night life, God Bless her.
Thank you for your delightful history snippets, Neil!
I absolutely LOVED this broadcast Neil, thank you so much. It was a fun, lighthearted glimpse behind the scenes of Princess Margaret's determination to do as she pleased, and I always admired her for that.

Dame Shirley Bassey is an absolute legend Neil . I wonder what she thought of working at the Astor club ? Big wave 👋
The former Duke of Edinburgh certainly was a handsome Chap!! As handsome as Queen Elizabeth II was beautiful!💕
