As all Muslim over the world always apply "Patience is half of Faith" as taugh by Prophets, thus as Malaysia is an Islamic country, this practice was also embedded since little to our nation..including to nonMuslim as well.. Its like trying to understand that everybody have their own problem and being angry over small things only make u stress and hypertensive..
Still everybody has different level of patience.. Just dont poke the beehive.
Its very memorable to have flying cockroach landed on your face... Unimaginabally scarily goosebumpy.. Always prepare 1 cockroach killer spray at each room area..

But at my hometown in Sabah, there is a type of insects that is even bigger than cockroaches (don't even know it's name) with big eyes, hard body and wings and making loud noises. Even when you beat it with a newspaper repeatedly, it won't die but keep on flying towards you. It's about 3 inches big 😂😂. I think about 18 years ago or so, they were cases where people honk out of anger and impatient that they would be dead because "samseng" would stop them with their car and shot the "honker" or just break out a fight. Hence, this 'patient' culture in driving occurs. "Samseng" was still rampant back then.
I am not sure if it applies to everyone but I saw my parent's habits in driving because of that and I also follow them. But being patient can also be due to religious teachings.

Your video is so funny and cute, Kakak Korea. Ok.., these are some of the info/reasons to some of your culture differences, first of all, Malaysians are very very patient. We are laid back and not so uptight about a lot of things. Its ok to give way and good to be courteous on the road. However, other than this, it’s also not wise to honk at some rude obnoxious drivers coz you may come across someone who’s a road bully, and they will come out of their car or motorbike and bash your car. Better to just let it be and move on. Next, the flying big cockroaches are the males. Males fly, females can’t fly. That male cockroach was attracted to you....😂😂 ... just kidding 😂😂, but I’m not kidding about males fly, ok .. and you’re right, we drive even though it’s a 5 mins drive away...

Firstly we do honk, but not as trigger happy as in other south east asian countries. For eg like you said maybe the other driver does not realise his action, say his car is reversing towards yours behind him without his knowledge then you do need to honk loudly, but not lengthy, to alert him.
Secondly, yes generally malaysia is a safe country, but as I have pointed out to others before, everyone must still take precautions, and not let his/her guard down and take things for granted. You never know when you get unfortunate, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, ie the only thief going around preying for a victim during the entire month happens to do his round on that particular evening and not other nights, and he happens to target the particular place you are at... So, always be wary, hopefully nothing untoward befalls us.
Stay safe and have fun staying in malaysia. 7 years? Wow! 👍

    1. we don't honk because it will obviously cause a situation like people assuming you're trying to pick a fight and that most of the time will escalate into a 'not so nice of a situation' (road ragers are real especially on the freeways).
we try not to escalate small things into huge debacles here as we don't really know how would the other party reacts.
    2. every month here we have a holiday/celebration so 100% fireworks festival all year round.
fun fact : firecrackers are illegal here, so when you see kids popping those explosives - that's basically domestic terrorism.
    3. we here are more of a river or lake kind of person. beach and pool are for the regular tourists.
    4. safety is not our number 1 priority, most of times, usually lol.
    5. the people here have a change of heart as often and unpredictable as the monsoon rain season passing by.
    6. it's not to disinfect, it's to prevent food from sticking to the utensils - making it a pain to use and clean.
    7. Malaysia is typically a safe country with low crime rates, but that doesn't mean that there's no crime - be mindful of your belongings because who know when will the 'local street magicians' perform their disappearing act with your stuffs.
    8. the roaches here are big, black and bite too.
pretty hilarious seeing even big burly guys freaking out over a flying cockroach.

My opinion on "sometime can, sometime can not" is, if according to the "rules" it is can not, but rules is just a guide to keep us in line. Often time, if we can help, we put aside the rule and help settle the problem. Yeah, some people might not agree, but if we can make some people life easier a little bit, why not? This is just my opinion, maybe it is not correct.

    2. about the sometimes can sometimes cannot thing, i think people hate it if you come to the office and they want you to get out of their office asap, so they'll give you whatever you want. and call centres are not a face-to-face experience so it's easier to reject a request. i think it's just a psychological thingy than just a malaysian thing😂
