Not sure about the surface roughness, internal features with precise dimensions and anisotropy of the material and manufacturing process, but inventions need these novelties, great. (I wathced the video when it was first released, today it is still up to date)

you are creating new boundaries which we avoid with single crystal casting ???? how you can come back to single crystal structure or you have hidden steps ?

I know Boeing was recently researching HIPing (Hot Isostatic Pressing) SLS printed parts to diminish the grain size and porosity. It's not as strong as single crystal though so I imagine they modified the design to reduce the material strength requirements or perhaps are only using them for the LPT section. Perhaps they are doing the same thing.

@@SafetyLucas increasing efficiency at cost of strentg in LPT section makes much more sense than using this in highier temperatures. It is important to remember that turbines have many stages some of which doesnt need exceptionaly resistant materials. It is also possible that the material they used can actually get stronger from 3d printing process as new materials are invented every day
