I’m a strangely proportioned individual (5’7” tall, 28” waist, 46” shoulders) and I’ve had HUGE troubles with US vanity sizing; I’m an EU medium to large on account of my shoulders, but outerwear in that size is often far to long in the body for me. I literally cannot buy from companies that don’t put the exact garment measurements in their sizing guide for each piece.
Another point to add to the advice on size guides for online clothing is some charts list the measurements of the actual garment such as 41 inch chest but another guide might have a range of the measurement of the chest body measurement such as 40 - 42 inches. Also, you have to take into account how much shrinkage will happened if you wash and dry the garment. Sometimes the garment will shrink in different proportions with length and width as well. This is why there is a benefit to buying used clothing online that has pictures of the actual measurements because they have already been pre shrunk.
