- Bohemian Football Club, Tritonville Fc and Shelbourne Dootball Club all played Irish League prior to partition and formation of the Republic of Ireland.

My great uncle played for Ballymena United in the 1960s, his name was Malachy McDonnell and everytime I go to my grandas he always shows me his trophies and the tie he wore to a Ballymena United awards night
I remember Shelbourne playing at Harold's Cross Greyhound Stadium and St. Pat's played there too. Dublin clubs are somewhat nomadic. Only Bohemians have consistenty played in the same stadium, and maybe UCD.

Excellent again Peaky Bannsider 👏. Remember travelling to Dublin in the late 1970s to Dalymount Park. Cliftonville played Bohs annually for the Pioneer cup, a trophy between the 2 oldest clubs Ireland. One year in Dublin and following year in Belfast. Unfortunately that game no longer exists. Anyway great work mate keep it up.
I’ve had my eyes opened to so much different football culture over the last 12 months and can see so many positives around the island. It’s great.

Shels also built their own stadium in Irishtown but because it was situated near the sea it never got finished as I think the sea air began to corrode and taint the stands and paintwork.There was a speedway track built around it as well,so they moved back to the greyhound stadium.This was in the 1950's.Their ill fated stadium was near Ringsend Park.They also played in Dublin's second greyhound stadium in Harolds Cross when they were based there for quite a few years!Check it out with Shels fans next time you're in Tolka Park,wasnt there a book or two written about them???

Fascinating! Well done. Looking forward to further videos. I supported Drumcondra, in the 1960s, a team which played in Tolka Park. My grandson now supports Shelbourne who now play in Tolka Park. 'Shelbourne' comes from 'Síol mBroin' (later 'Síol Bhroin') which means 'the descendants of Bran'. Thank you.
I’ll be back down to do a LOI shel’s history video next year. Will take in the likes of drumcondra. They were a big team if I’m right?
Serious question,who was Bran?Dunphy speaks a lot about Drumcondra in his book a Rocky Road,if I remember write.
Bran mac Feabhail (Bran 'raven' son of Foyle) is a fictional sea-fairing character in a text written in Ulster in the 8th century. The names were inspired by the names 'Loch Feabhail / Lough Foyle' and 'Drúibh Brain / Stroove Point. The story Imram Brain (Iomeamh Bhrain / Bran's Rowing). An otherworld lady seduced Bran by playing beautiful music on a silver branch. The story is similsr to that of Oisín and Niamh Chinn óir in the Land of youth. Very enjoyable video. Probably also worth mentioning that Rovers were also formed in Ringsend , same area as Shels were founded. Bohs , bythexway were an amateur club until 1969:or 1970. Rovers, Shels and Drumcondra were Dublins big clubs back in the day
The plan is to go into LOI clubs and the league next year after I go through the Irish League stuff. Deffo want to go into the Dublin clubs stories.

Brilliant as ever Peaky. One point of notice is that Athlone Town are the oldest Club in the 26 counties. Exceptional vlog.

Think there is also an argument that athlone are older than Cliftonville.
Probably should have said ‘top flight LOI club’.

😂 wouldn't worry yourself. Athlone Town FC were 1887, but Cliftonville were 1879... not much between them all the same, tho Sthlone are the oldest in the south! Maybe a wee vlog on them in the Irish League would be class Peaky. Still in shock that the two Northsider teams are infact Southsider teams lol. Great work again. My club!! Great video and content on these videos. It’s great when you get ground access also. Hope you got to visit the bars inside. The stadium was once a fortress a great stadium even 15-10 years ago it held 12,000, it used to hold 40,000 and is going through a phase of much needed redevelopment where it will have a 6,000-10,000 capacity depending on how the re proposals get on. As for the name of the club yes, Bohemian FC the nicknames are bohemians or Bohs. It would be great some day to see clubs from all corners of Ireland competing on the same pitches once again. This island has major potential to reach levels far greater than where it is now and while passion and history is important sometimes it leads us to a closed mindset which impedes progression.
I just turned up at the ground and walked in, no one says a word. When I went to shelbourne park the security were on me like a ton of bricks as apparently there is a lot of stuff that goes on with sabotage and all 😂
The nostalgia around the ground is easy to feel.
@@ThePeakys I go to dalymount regular it’s an open ground the bar is usually open and the office cabins have part time staff in them down beside the old Phibbsborough terrace. Did you not go to Tolka park it’s only 5-10 mins from Dayler. Yeah Shelbourne Park is a bit more let’s say prestigious lol but nice they let you in. Shamrock rovers where formed only down the road in Ringsend/Irishtown from the dog stadium.
Maybe have 2 or 3 regional leagues with the top few teams going forward to quarter finals for the whole island

On the history tour your doing a more in depth look at the club than Sam North (IMHO)
If there is information about you should do one and the Belfast based (Falls Rd area) club that never played in the IFA leagues only the FAI, probably something to do with the fall out with Belfast Celtic

I think Tritonville fc played at Sandymount Dublin i not sure exactly where but present day the Sandaymount Hotel is the other side of the river from the Aviva Stadium
Fortunately they didn’t play any significant part in the Irish League history so I don’t need to research them any further 😂
Shels withdrawing from the cup match vs Glenavon, first time I heard it was a financial one, after this the southern clubs in the leinster f.a withdrew from the I.f.a as a result of the I.f.a refusing to give the leinster f.a equal voting rights and so the f.a.i was formed shortly after. As you touched on there were issues etc etc

i had absolutely no idea of the history of Bohs or how their name came about but loved how they came to the decision on it. even to see the ground shows how much of a difference there is between the likes of Dalymount, and even Tolka Park compared to Brandywell or the even newer Tallaght (excuse my spelling if its wrong) Stadium. loved this vid, especially the little bit of history on shels (who as you know have a affinity with us blues with the 1st ever setanta cup final and wee pat fenlon aswell) superb bit of family history aswell in there Niall with the connection to Shelbourne, and of course it would be emotional cos if it wasnt you would be a robot. lookin forward to hopefully seeing you on Saturday, will be keeping an eye out for you and Oisin, and hopefully a good game of footy all round

@@ThePeakys Another interesting point is that it is said that the black stripes on Bohemians shirt were added as a gesture of mourning to mark the death of Queen Victoria.

One wee question , coz you know staff at coleraine , did you once play for them. I played for Huddersfield Town boys but didn’t make the grade, as a keeper I was only 5ft 7in. I knew a player Kieran O’Regan who played for Tramore athletic went to Brighton then Huddersfield. We now have young starlet Bradley Spencer who is U21 from Belfast & has 1 senior cap for NI already.
Nah, played at Portstewart, UUC and junior football over the years.

Related to the chairman at Coleraine through marriage so have a good relationship with the club in general.
Truth is if I had played football growing up instead of Gaelic I would have had a chance. I’d compare myself to big skinner tbh.

@@ThePeakys being related to chairman makes sense. I tried Gaelic footy & hurling as a kid , too rough for me but I played Hockey as keeper (netminder they call it now) & played for Hudds university & hudds mens & just missed on Yorkshire county due to age, had to retire early (33) due to arthritis of the spine. Love Irish footy tho & you keep upto date. I get Derry matches on Radio Foyle (RTE tv occasionally) & see some live streams bbcni website. All the best with your blogs or vlogs.
