    2:36 I'd be horrified to see that many dead worms in my bin. More hydration? Try non-toxic branches boiled and soaked in water, put in there on top of a layer of cardboard to seperate them from the oats. You can add stuff that is soggy to the touch, as long as it's not dripping. Branches are great because they're very hard to go moldy, within 24 hours they should have been gnawed smooooth, re-soak, re-usable. Even some soaked balled up cardboard seems to do the trick pretty well (but can cause cardboard 'fluffing' in the tanks as it's chewed up). Carrots and veggies are OK, but in my experience, nowhere near enough moisture for the entire colony. Additionally apples/fruits can ferment pretty quickly and cause lots of death.

    Hey guys im Tshepang from South Africa, roughly at what size do I know that they are ready to pupate? Or what signs do they show that they wanna pupate? Just got my first mealworms and this is my first time breeding them, ive noticed that some want to escape and leave the storage is that what I should be looking for?

      @SheafferSelect  Před 5 lety +2

      I have had them pupate at various sizes but the tell tale sign that they are close is they curl into a “C” or crescent and wishing 1-2 days pupate I would use smooth plastic they can not climb the sides I am never had any escape

      Hi, thanks for the reply, i realised that I have a couple of pupae after your reply the last time, how do i make sure that my pupae develops and becomes beatles? Is is natural for the pupae to become black before it becomes a beetle? I havea couple and im nore if they are dead or still alive

    QUESTION: If mealworms are nothing more than oats & apples, why not feed your chickens the oats & apples and cut out the middle man?

      By medium I'll say something like 2ft by 16in. Or 60cm by 40cm... the bins I'm starting with are 16.5in by 11.5in
