Actually, no. The PS4 Slim is a better option than the pro if you dont have a 4k monitor. Save the $100 bucks or put it towards a game.
@Theoriginal, the original ps4 and slim will run games just fine. The pro will just run at a smoother fps and support HDR and upscales to 4k.its important to note it does not run at native 4k. Please correct me if I am Incorrect here fellow Internets ☺
RandomThoughtGuy it does run native 4K because Sony has a license with AMD (CPU and GPU company) that allows to double TF (processing power) from 4.2TF to 8.4TF because of instead using 32bit processing at 4.2TF, to 16bit processing at 8.4TF, which is plenty powerful to run native 4K. Although it's up to the developers of each game to say what it will play at.

I'd totally buy this if 1080p 50-60fps was a consistent option across games. Rather have higher frames than 4K res.

Absolutely. I've been burning to find out how many games will get improved framerates. All the mindless consumers who just want 4K because it's the buzz word of the day are choking the performance we could be having. Most people won't even be able to distinguish the resolution difference in their usual playing conditions (60 inch screen, 12 feet away). And even if you're close enough to tell, it's pretty small. 60 fps, on the other hand, is a wondrous thing on any TV.
If you don't have a PS4, go on ahead and buy it.
If you do, then just stick with what you have. You'll be totally fine.

One major upgrade on the PS4 that no one mentions is the SATA port for the hard drive. The original PS4 only supports sata 2 making SSDs useless because it bottlenecks. The PS4 PRO supports SATA 3. Way more bandwidth. Now everything loads faster AND you can switch to an SSD and actually see an improvement were before it was just a waste of money.

I'm sorry, but this "review" is pretty bad. You are reviewing how devs have taken advantage of the new hardware WAY more than you are actually reviewing the console and it's capabilities. In the case of the PS4 Pro, you should probably just look at the top games supporting the hardware.. why knock the pro for a dev giving a half assed patch to "support it"?

The device is good. Great, even. The support isn't there yet. He should've put a line in explaining that. But the machine itself is really great value. If you don't already have a PS4, then the PS4 Pro is the way to go.

Sadly we have no confirmation of true PC type additions vs the ps4 tho(added visuals, ambient dust etc, draw distances, better weather etc etc), im getting the pro as my ps4 is under full warranty so i hope 4 the best But according to sony its all about the resolution, if true then its a painfull pill to swallow

You can upgrade to a better drive for much less than 399.99$ As a matter of fact, I think you can get a 1 TB SSD for 150-180$ which would be a better improvement for your money than the miniscule performance boost. The console versions of games are already optimized for that console and its specs, so the disparity in performance with upgraded hardware would be minimal until we see new games designed around the upgraded hardware. I'm saving my money, even though I have a PC that has a lesser graphics card than the Pro. I'll wait for the next iteration when I can afford a 4k monitor/tv.

I personally love my standard system paired with my 4k TV and it's upscaling abilities. I think most people get caught up in the advertising and don't think about the fact that they are playing on large screens sitting 5 to 10 feet away with only average human vision. How much detail do you think you will really see? Even when I play PC games that are right in front of me I still have trouble telling great looking 1080p from 4k resolution.

Still looks like a good buy. In time it'll be worth it so I'm definitely getting one on day one. I've had the original PS4 ever since it's launch in 2013 so I'm happy to finally upgrade now.
4K is cool, but as i dont have a tv for it ive mostly been excited to see the PS4 Pro give better visual enhancements and/or better framerate while still at 1080p. A lot of games seem to do only better lighting/shaders/depth of field/ occlusion stuff rather than enhanced textures though, which i would like a lot. It would be nice to have the consistent option to play with better graphics like the settings on pc, but i do appreciate the High FPS option being there on some games. Hopefully itll get even better in the future when more devs have time for it.
IGN, I'm used to hooking up an external SATA HDD to my Playstation consoles. Therefore my current PS4 has 4 TB of HDD space...so an important question for me is, does the PRO have the same cradle for the HDD or is it a different design? Because if it's the same I can just swap the HDD's and enjoy 4TB of HDD space on my PRO next thursday. Hope you can check this out :)

I may get one in a few months or so once I see how games I already own will take advantage of the new hardware. I don't plan on owning a 4K TV at any point in the future and it seems devs are pouring their resources into that aspect of the PS4Pro more than improving the 1080p experience, which is fine, but also means there isn't much on offer unless you have a 4K TV. I understand some games already feature improvements for 4K (even if it isn't native) and 1080p owners but I feel that you will still not get your entire money's worth unless you have a 4K TV and HDR.

Mitchell Precisely! So Microsoft better bring their A-Game in 2017 because unless they've got something more than the typical murky brown shooters they usually spout I suspect many will be asking why the hell they didn't use these specs to make a very affordable powerful gaming PC.
Sony are leading this generation because they've appealed to markets in Europe and Japan (which account for more than half the PS4 sales) whereas the XBOX One has only targeted America. Nintendo have had the sense to announce a huge list of fan favourite 3rd party developers for the switch... Microsoft need to do the same. For what it's worth though I think PS4 Pro is unsubstantial quite frankly pointless.

We have typical Gears of War, Halo, Forza and that's it... every single other game is the same...except Rare Replay (now this is a game begging for 4K 60 FPS). I recall hearing decent names like Cuphead and We Happy Few that might stretch the library to some extent but... where are they?

My launch PS4 stopped working, so i went out and bought a PS4 Pro. I haven't been able to play any games on it yet as i need a couple of days to re-download the ones i was currently playing on my previous machine. I'm just happy that the cloud-saves work and i didn't lose any progress in any of my games.
Thought for a moment about going with PS4 Slim, but even with just a 1080-tv for the foreseeable future i'm going to hopefully see enough 60fps games (or slightly prettier ones) on the Pro to justify the slightly higher price.

i found this video to be very informative, it had information that allowed me to make me decision on should i update to the playstation pro from my playstation 4, it gave me information about the specs and the performance of the playstation pro.

Something that they didn't mention is that you do not get better performance with your existing games. For some reason they made it so that if you play games that don't support PS4 Pro, it'll run *exactly* like it did on the original PS4. Which means you'll still drop frames on games that ran poorly on the original PS4.

Hmm...I was debating on whether or not to get the pro later down the line when i get a 4K tv. But since i already have a regular PS4 and a gaming pc, I'm not sure if it'll be worth it. Especially since i planned on getting a 4K monitor for my pc first (my current set up has my pc and tv on opposite sides of the room so i can't use one screen for both) since that has priority. Plus the lack of 4K bluray support kinda kills it for me.
I agree with some of you that this was a half done review but you also have to understand that the focus is towards higher fidelity gaming which obviously misses the mark at launch. It's quick and to-the-point, maybe it'll help people decide if they really want it at launch or not.

I was kinda curious about the network card. My console isn't usually in a place where a wired connection is convenient, and I've heard the wifi on the Pro is better.
Does the pro increase the fps for games that don't add any of these support options? Say for example, The Witcher 3?

shane neyome dear God it's real 4K. Did you forget that Sony and AMD licensed a special software to play games at 4K? It's called cutting the bit usage in half, you get twice as much processing power when you do.
I agree I love my PS4, but the Pro is not 4k...
Mr Mousey It is real 4K, look at the GTX 1070, the Pro is more powerful because of how the system operates.

Did you try Uncharted 4 on a proper 4K/HDR TV? It looks stunning compared to the regular PS4 or Slim. Huge increase in image quality.
