- „Farbe ist wie das Eintauchen in den Seelen-See. Der Geist wird still und hält inne, im Glücksfall begegnet er sich selbst und schweigt." STANKO bevorzugt es, seine Bilder für sich sprechen zu lassen, doch in diesem Porträt erahnen wir, was er braucht - seit dreißig Jahren braucht - um Farbfelder so intensiv und gelungen zu erschaffen. Ein Atelierbesuch und Künstlergespräch über Farbe, Kunst und die Heilkraft, die in einer aufmerksamen Betrachtung liegt.
Stanko hat am 29. Januar 2024 seinen Körper in Frieden und Zuhause verlassen. Dies ist ein Film, den ich vor zehn Jahren über seine Arbeit gemacht habe. Danke, dass ihr wie ich ihn und seine Kunst bewundern.

I know this is an 8 year old video but...I love your work. Color field was the first style that made me feel "somewhat" artsy...and it was one of the very last that I ever tried. I've since incorporated elements of it in almost every single one of my works. Your choice of colors puts rothko to shame, I hope to see some of your work in person one day! =).

1000fachen Dank zurück. Und ein wenig blutet das Herz, denn zwischen den Orten von hier nach dort liegen 1000 km und der Sommer auf der Insel hier ist sozusagen urlaubsgesperrte Zone. Hätt' mich sehr sehr gefreut. Soll leider nicht sein. Freu mich jedoch über die Einladung dennoch sehr und weiß es ebenso zu schätzen. Vielen vielen Dank nochmal dafür Stanko!

I love Rothko and I also like your work. There is nothing wrong with being inspired by another Artist's work or style. Looks like you have your own technique which is very different from Rothko. Did you create those brushes yourself? I'm inspired to try to paint one. Wish I could understand German, hope you do the next video in English.

Love your work...what kind of brushes do you use ??? they look so different from the usual ones..thank you...
thank you so much - I use just normal big brusches but I never wash them, the brushes just stay in water so they won´t get hard and after a while they are like you see them in the video

Lieber Stanko ...ich versuche mich gerade in der Ölmalerei und deine Bilder gefallen mir sehr gut. Mich interessiert, wie du die 1.Schicht aufgetragen hast ? Terpentin und Ölfarbe ? Über eine Antwort würde ich mich freuen. LG
Ursula danke & hallo, das kommt drauf an ob ich auf HDF-Platte oder Leinwand arbeite. Auf Holz oder HDF Platte starte ich mit Ölgrundierung, auf Leinwand mit verdünnter Ölfarbe - Orangenterpen als Malmittel - viel Erfolg

not really - since more than 15 years I`m using oil
are you mixing your paint with linseed oil or turpentine ? why putting oil on your canvas first ? :)
Hi - I´m using both and oil mainly first on wood helps me letting the color be longer fluidly so I can move them for a longer time to achieve my goals

why are you completely copying Mark Rothko who did this decades ago?
Please, let me guess: because he likes Rothko's work and is trying to continue in this direction and maybe later develop it further. Besides, this is far from Rothko...
Mark Rothko has inspired many artists, but he used a totally different technique than Stanko. he used a lot of turpentine as a thinner to overlay many transparent layers of different colors with a brush.There is nothing wrong with being inspired by Mark Rothko. I love the work of Stanko. A meditative approach to colors and their warm and calming effect on the viewer of the picture

I don’t think he understands Rothko. Especially his edges. Consequentially, the paintings looks static and a bit dead.
maybe you´re right, maybe not - but at least I´m trying to understand - but the intension is NOT to paint like Rothko, I´m just following the inspiration... and at least I never saw such paintings by Rothko like the oval or square forms...
Stanko Ropić You’ll understand Rothko by understanding what Rothko was interested in. You should go the Rothko room at the Tate or the Chapel where there’s a LOT of themed Rothko. I brought up edges (also layers) because of how they create mystery. Paint a peach against a colored background, (or a human) and see how to get it right you have to paint the background color into the peach, and the peach color into the background. You have to do this right so the form seems to just be there, but really the edge is elusive and the form can seem to change in different lights. This is surprising to discover in say a Rubens painting where the cartoony proportions of a Rubenesque model shrink to the sublime in North Light. It’s a real eye opener. Rothko is doing this kind of thing with geometric shapes which become organic. This is all about SEEING WHAT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING. Pay very close attention to Rothko’s color choices and VALUES. Yours are a little too punchy. Try to get a Rothko effect with just greys. Squint a lot, and make sure your painting light is right.
