      @@owenreese2216- ABBA recorded The Midnight Special in 1975 as part of a charity drive. This is the only song that they did not write themselves.

    someone should do an ABBA Leadbelly mashup

    Wow. Some below have really got their panties in a bunch over this. Take a chill pill. It was simply a part of a medley of songs they did in 1975 that ended up on the B-side of one of their singles and eventually as a bonus track on the re-mastered 1975 'ABBA' album. They remain the only songs recorded that they hadn't written themselves. Take it as a compliment that a mega-band like ABBA should cover a favourite song. It's been said umpteen times but musicians and bands are generally more rational and open minded than many of the fans that follow them.

      Steve Britton You're technically correct, Yes. But it had been written by ABBA's Benny and Bjorn. They gave it to Benny's old 'Hep Stars' bandmate Svenne Hedlund and his wife as a potential Eurovision entry in 1975 before ABBA themselves recorded it. 'Fernando' is also a cover technically as it was first recorded by Frida on her 1975 solo album. In both these cases the lyrics were originally in Swedish and with slightly different arrangements. In 'Fernando's case the original version wasn't about Mexican wars at all. 8-)

  • @owenreese2216
    @owenreese2216 Před 8 lety +4

    one thing that must be remembered about this arrangement of the song is that it's part of a medley, and doesn't sound as great on it's own because it has little structure and is quite short.

    Some people might not like this version and like the CCR; but some people also might not like the CCR and like this version. I do think it's as simple as that.

    This is not the video for the song!
    But I think they did a good version.... They sounded better than most and the people griping about it on here are pseudos who want to show they are cool and that only the great ccr can do it and not a pop band like Abba

    "Midnight special"
    uno de los 3 únicos covers de ABBA
    y los 3 forman parte del meddley
    al fin del tercer album: 'ABBA"
    Nota: la imagen de este vídeo corresponde a una presentación para TV Suiza del año 1979 con la canción
    "Lovers live a little longer"
    con Frida como voz líder
    en cambio Agnetha es la voz líder de "Midnight special" de 1975

    Kind of like it. But based on other entries it must be a sin for ABBA to sing it. Wouldn't bother me if they sang a little Merle Haggard or George Jones or Hank Williams. But there are others here who would want to do them bodily harm. Come on people. Give it a break!!
