- Hello! Today we're having a very relaxed look at the capital of Germany, first with some exploration of a map and then we'll look through some nostalgic images of Eastern Berlin from around 1900.
Luckily it's cooled down somewhat since we filmed this, but those pictures of the swimming locations and the restaurants by the waterside still look extremly tempting. I hope you're all well and find some restful sleep despite the temperatures. Sweet dreams 💙

I spent New Years Eve of 2020 in Berlin (little did we know at the time what a challenging year that would be!). Such an amazing, diverse city.
That was lucky! In hindsight, I was so glad about anything I'd visited in late 2019/early 2020. Such a strange year.
I just recently discovered your channel and I’m really loving your content. Tracing is a favorite asmr trigger of mine but you don’t see that much of it in videos, but I’m happy to see it in your work. Thanks for creating such great and relaxing content. Great job ❤️

I wish that I had this video with me before I went to Berlin last year! It really gives you a great overview of the city as a whole and where everything is in relation to each other. Would love to go back and actually visit some of the museums this time :D

i just visited both Germany and Austria! Berlin is a beautiful city in my eyes with lots of history and things to see. Austria too was only for a day, but the mountains were enchanting. I cannot wait to return :) From America

I recently discovered your channel and I’m actually so excited to watch some of your videos because of how calm and relaxing everything is, in classrooms it’s not like that at all. Everything is so fast paced and presented in a way that is neither interesting nor exiting to look forward too, which makes learning such a difficult thing to do. But I *am* looking forward to watch your videos about all these cool topics :))
Aw thank you! I'm so happy you find them interesting. And yeah, it really depends on the teachers sometimes. There definitely have been classes that I've found more stressful than anything else, but luckily there are plenty of other ways to engage with topics now - and the classes are over eventually :)

I was in Berlin in 2018 on vacation, 3 full days. Made a combined citytrip to Berlin, Prague, Krakow and Vienna. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in Berlin. Place is definitely worth visiting.
Oh wow that sounds like a busy trip. Great destinations! Prague is wonderful too. I haven't been to Krakow yet (even though it's not even far away 😪), but it looks gorgeous.

Hi melange! Me and my wife went to Berlin in late September2019 and found it a very interesting and intriguing place, it’s a bit of a bittersweet memory as on our return to the U.K. my mum was quite il with an undiagnosed stomach problem and rapidly got worse and sadly passed away on December 6th, she had just turned 77 which in my eyes is not old so yeah it’s a bittersweet memory for me! Great video melange you are absolutely outstanding!

you mentioned the castle at the end of under den linden which you said doesnt stand anymore but in fact they tore down the east german palast der rupublik and replaced it by REBUILDING the prussian castle which was highly upsetting because of the historical and political implications as well as the loss of the old building (it had asbestos flooring iirc)
Whaaat 🤯🤯 I knew they had torn down the Palast der Republik, but I thought they'd built something completely different and not the old castle, that is absurd....
@@MelangeASMR i live next to it. it’s actually a museum with a facade of the old castle and it’s amazing. I’m so glad they rebuilt this. It’s not absurd at all

I will clearly always learn something new, regardless of whether it's a "historical" video or not. :-) I had no idea that was the origin of "Berlin" - and as it happens, it's then probably related to the origin of "Brno"! So building towns/cities in wetlands isn't so rare I guess. :D
Ahh I had no idea! Learned something unexpected as well 😍 And yeah, you'd think wetlands aren't that great to live in, but apparently they were haha.
The etymology of Brno is highly disputed. It could mean swampy place, or fortified place if its origins are Slavic, but if the name comes from the Celtic peoples who lived there before the Slavs arrived then it would mean something like hilly place with the hills surrounding the city.
