HOW TO PLAY MOONSTONE - Everything You Need To Know To Play Your First Game Of Moonstone - Hry
Great tutorial man! Beaky had me cracking up, peaking around terrain 😅
Glad you enjoyed!
Impressive work putting together such tutorials…
Thank you, BB!
Thanks for this, I'd imagaine it takes alot of work. Appreciate it.
Thank you for watching, hope it's been helpful!
Very good tutorial! Very helpful . Moonstone looks such an interesting game it’s good to see it getting more coverage . Looking forward to some battle reports :)
Thank you, glad it was helpful. It's such a fun game, we are playing it a lot at my local club and loads of us have started to grow our collection already. I'l be making a demo game video first, then lots of battle reports to come!
Great job on the How to Play! 😃
thankyou, this is some good quality tutorial!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Great video! 👍👏😁
Thank you, Grognard!
I love the tutorial, the model's are beautiful but the arcane card system put me off but I'm gonna order it
This games artstyle is pretty rad
It is great, the Arising book is especially nice
thx!!
The Miniatures look very "märchenhaft" fairytale like so to speak. Looks like a great rule set, especially the melee combat. Maybe i need to get a hold of a 2 playerstarter set! Very insightful video, cant wait to watch the others in your series.
I like spotting the influences in the models, and they range from Labyrinth to Count Duckula (Nanny from the new Shades Kickstarter) to Hieronymus Bosch 🤣 Glad you liked the video, thank you for watching!
This does seem a good bit more complex than Warcry, but its fairly cheap so I've ordered it and will give it a go with my daughter - might need to watch some video sections a few times though!
The abilities are so varied it makes it very fun, and it is a little more complex but also feels more chilled and definitely a social game and great fun to play with the family.
Can I give a double Like for the model peaking from behind the tree during the terrain rules?
your terrain is amazing, now all you need is a hollow tree in which short elves make cookies
Coooooookies! 😋
Sorry if I'm missing it - did you post the videos about the melee and arcane systems you mentioned?
Not yet, but will do in the New Year. Lots more to come for Moonstone in 2024!
Great vid! Ordered my set ready to play. Where did you get that terrain from?
That's from battlesystems.
@@Crunch2327 awesome thanks for that 👍. Do you happen to know what the playmat used is too?
@@mightyblowstudioI picked up one from waylander games, dont forget needs to be 3'x3'
Thank you! That's awesome, have fun getting it all built and painted. I guarantee you'll want a giant to troll soon! 🤣 The terrain and battlement are from Battle Systems.

I was buying Malifaux, but maybe jump in Moonstone first 🤔
I haven't tried Malifaux yet but I can definitely recommend Moonstone. I'm finding the more I play and get to know the characters the better it gets.
How do you think the game would play on a slightly smaller play area (say 2'x2' or 22"x30")? For example for a 2'x2' board you have the players set up within 4" of their board edge, so they are no closer to their opponent or the center than if they set up within 10" of the 3'x3' board (16" and 8" respectively).
I think it would work, especially with 3-4 miniatures. Be good to try it out, and it would also open up a lot of fun opportunities to create some different terrain.
As i am choosing my charakters, does it matter if they are big Models, such as giants or trolls? Or do they have the same "value" (of 1) as every other model too?
Thank you for your help, really appreciate this video, since you made me buy the game and about 300 Euro worth of expansions.
Wow that sounds like an awesome haul! That's right, they have the same value, so you can choose any characters that share the faction symbol. You can't have duplicates, though.
I likely won't play this myself, but I really appreciate these how to play videos mate, for all the games you cover. They all help me with ideas and mechanics for my own game design. There's no other chances I get to actually try these games directly. I really like the moonstone dice drop. Looking most forward to that Necromunda series.
As an aside... there's something about those rounded edge bases that really appeals to me. They seem higher quality, or in authenticity or something. They're great.
Thank you. If you are in to game design, you might like to watch my new podcast where I'm interviewing game designers and others creators in the game design space. Recording the first one tomorrow, and hoping to post that within the next week.
Agree on the bases, they are really nice, they feel a bit like small ornaments.
@@tabletopskirmishgames great, I will check that podcast out. Hope it goes well for you.
Where did you get the landscape map and houses from?
That's the Battle Systems terrain set and mat (mat is available as a separate purchase), it's awesome. Here's a link to the village ... amzn.to/3OOyRPJ
As a colorblind person, I sincerely hope they update the cards to include a symbol in the colored dots because I cannot distinguish between them Q.Q
There's a version being tested at the moment I believe
where to get that amazing papercard terrain from?
That's the battle systems terrain, it's brilliant and they make for all different genres. Here's a link to the Terrain in the video: amzn.to/469tVuV
One minor comment.. when you were describing arcane abilities you used the word active instead of arcane for the ability which is not correct since there are active abilities in moonstone working differently than arcane 🙂. Thank you for the video though I really enjoy the presentations with the arrows and the X's.keep up!
Also what are those you have added under your bases?
@@loykoylosstick on magnets, they're featured in a vid he did 3 days ago + Links
Thank you for that, good catch! Glad you enjoyed the video 👊
Those are magnets from Warmag which I really like. I made a video last week shooing how their system works if you'd like to check it out.
@@tabletopskirmishgames which size? 30mm or 28.5mm?
Is the bluffing mechanic necessary for game play? Is it something that could be ignored? I'm very interested in playing this with my kids. Just wondering if i could homebrew that out or if it would make a huge difference and change the game too much.
You don't have to bluff, you could only play required a card if you have one in your hand. My kids love the bluffing part, though, it's good fun and makes the game a good laugh.
Rules-wise, Would you say Moonstone is heavier or lighter than Warcry?
I'd say it's easier to learn the core rules. You then build the complexity with the characters and their abilities. The abilities are much more diverse than Warcry, and they make a lot of sense for the characters. It's a very clever game, and there is a lot of depth to it as you explore the different factions and see how the different characters work together in different ways. It's also balanced nicely, so tournament play is very fun. I like random narrative play the most, though, and find that players can approach a game in a competitive way and a narrative way at the same time against each other and both have fun; that's rare I think.
I have to say, I love Moonstone and if I had to choose between them, I would 100% pick Moonstone over Warcry now. Never thought I'd say that!
What happens with healing? How many cards has to be stealed? There is a resitent player?
for abilities that dont target enemies, the player to the left is the resisting player and draws 6
Where did you get the terrain?
It looks like Battle Systems - Fantasy Village. They make all sorts of terrain that look very similar to this! I have been interested in getting some myself. Hope this helps!
Thank you! The terrain and battlement are from Battle Systems.

It’s a shame there’s no solo option as it looks like good fun.
If you like Solo play, you might like to watch my new podcast where I'm interviewing game designers and others creators in the game design space. Recording the first one tomorrow, and hoping to post that within the next week. The topic is indeed Solo play and designing AI mechanics!
If you like to play it solo you can find community's created solo rules. Can I post a link here @tabletopskirmishgames ?
