    Agent D has a short screen time in the movie but we still learn a lot about him. He is clearly a very capable and experienced agent, but old age has creeped up on him. I wish he didn't have to be neuralized tho, he may not be fit for fieldwork anymore but with his experience he could've been like an instructor for new MIB recruits.

    I just realized “look at the stars” is some kind of code phrase for agents who want to be neutralized. That’s why he said, “I’m gonna miss the chase” he knew his time as an agent was over.
    K didn’t make that choice, D did.

    • @boondogglet132
      @boondogglet132 Před 2 lety +158

      Look at the stars was reused in the second film when J is trying to get K to remember. Its because after so many years of exposure and training that certain things become impulsive or by instinct. Almost like an image burned into a tv screen. I think its because when the former agents see the stars, its something that feels familiar and calming.
      this just goes to show the true caliber of the trilogy that almost 30 years later and we still havent unpacked everything MiB has to offer

      There's actually a reason why the movie didn't work..... it wasn't the director's true movie, I found out that the director's original cut actually delved more into the ideas of immigration like what we saw in the first Men in Black movie and of course the international stuff too. But the studio didn't like his cut and told him to reshoot the film that suits the executive's taste and honestly it was a horrible decision, I would love to see his original cut but I have doubts that it'll be better than what we unfortunately got.

      It's part of commanding respect.
      He knows the people doubt him, that's fine but he still has the power and he knows it. The Officers rightfully doubt who they're dealing with but figured either way they would be in the right, as in catching the more serious offense or doing the right thing.
      This kind of attitude can be used by anyone in the right situations, it's best not claim you have power but silently suggest you do.
      Take it this way, someone with real power usually won't argue with someone who doubts them because in the end they're right, instead of saying "I will have you fired" they might just ask for them to clarify their name.
      This is a complex idea so naturally no simple explanation is perfect but this kind of thing can drastically change situations. You will see it a lot in many better written movies, some fail miserably at conveying it.
      True power or wealth isn't something you should have to even tell someone about, them believing you or not doesn't matter usually. Why waste your time?

    This is truly one of the best opening scenes of any movie ever. It establishes who and what the MIB is, and what they do, and it does this by showing us that the MIB has more authority than the police. It shows us what the neuralizer does. It shows us that there are aliens living secretly amongst the population. It gives us a peek at the weaponry at the disposal of the MIB. It sets the tone for the rest of the movie by being serious, but not too serious as the movies have its many funny moments. And how long does it take to do all that? Seven minutes. Amazing.

    This is probably an unanswerable question but why does the alien charge at the dude in the first place? He didn't seem that disturbed by people or agents and seemed rather friendly with them and he even surrenders.

      The comments have had different interpretations of this: A human civilian saw him out of disguise so rules state he has to go back, he doesn't like being snuck up on, thought it was an mib ambush, his species are predatory and he's hungry.
      We'll never figure out which.

    MiB is just like The Matrix trilogy, the first one there is something magical about them and the next two are good but don't capture that magic.

    Always wonder what kind of 'new' life they made for D after he was retired. Maybe they ran with his 'looking at the stars' thing, and set up a position for him at SETI or something, surrounded by real SETI people, and other retired agents. Something peaceful and quiet, while also loosely monitored, because even though the neuralizer works almost 100% of the time...you can never be too careful.
