- The Mountains to Sea Trail begins! Accompanied by family, I start hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains, and see many of the things the area has to offer: Mountains, trees, water, snakes, bears, and much of the rain expected in a temperate rain forest.

Your smile is contagious!❤ Beautiful hike!
A rattlesnake, a mother bear and cubs with turkey's too! Don't forget the stellar views.. Great video!
Thanks Jason!
@@JeniferJourneys Always looking forward to the next one!
Mid-century, we courted on Water Rock Knob: no walkway, no pavement, no structures, just a gravel parking area. It was private especially at night. A ranger came one time, blinked his lights at us, and resumed his patrol. The world was wilder then. I had to lay her ashes there 60 odd years later. Good grief, I miss her something fierce - her and her mountains.
I really missed your videos. Love your style of sharing your adventure with us, and I freaking love your attitude. Badass!
Haha, thanks so much! I'm super pumped to be back on trail!
Need try pan fried livermush with egg cheese and Dukes Mayo on a bun. Life changing
It's App-uh-latch-un. Haha Have fun.
Haha, I know. I thought about that actually. I've lived out of the area too long and now I say it wrong. 🙃
Great film, thanks for taking us along! 🖖👍👊😊
Thanks! Thanks for coming along!👊
Ohhhhh. This is your Triple 👑 Crown.
Not quite. I have to hike the AT still for the 👑 👑 👑. One day. 🙂
Uncle Paul's comments were great, "that's a big squirrel", "just like me to not hear a woman" had me cracking up.
Haha, yep. He is a goofball and had me laughing too. 😅
Your first day was to the same campsite I went to on my first day, except where Uncle Paul was crossing the creek I went down hard and was pretty sure I had ended my hike on day 1. Thankfully it was just a lot of bruising.
Hah. Oh no! Yeah I really thought he was going to do the same. I just took off my shoes and waded through.
Great start! I’ve got friends in Asheville if you need shelter from the upcoming storm. Don’t hesitate to reach out! Enjoy NC.
Hey really appreciate it! I was fortunate to have someone to stay with during the storm!
Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Whoa! 🐻 🧸 🧸
Planning to do the Mountains to the Sea trail in April. Would appreciate your thoughts on starting in April?
I know! 😅
Bears. Appears to wan exciting beginning to a wonderful journey.
Yep! Off to a good start!
Awesome start to your trip
Agreed!🙂
Welcome to Appalachia.......our eastern rainforest. Land of eternal fog. Now you understand why I moved to the coast of North Carolina where the sun shines every day. I'm going back home to the mountains in a week to visit family and see the leaves though. Nothing like home sweet home.
Yes, honestly both the mountains and the coast can be pretty special. Good you get to have healthy doses of both!
Great choice on the trail! And such fun to see you in such a different environment that the CDT. Fun video!
Glad you liked it! Yes, this is super different than the CDT. I like the variety.
Thanks. I have been wanting to see someone do this!❤
You're welcome! Hope it was helpful!
Great video. I'm glad you chose the MST. I believe you can look back and see Clingman's Dome from Waterrock Knob on a clear day!
Haha, I guess I'll have to go back another day then. Because no such luck on this trip.
Definitely the closest I think I have ever been to ... being dinner.
Haha, right? That's how I was feeling.
So glad to see you back on the trail
Thanks! Glad to be back!
Thinking of doing this with my hubby. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
It's a fun one! Thanks for following along!
Nice to see you back in the trail again. 😎👍
Good to be back!👍
Happy trails; we'll see you when you get to our area in Segment 13 (the Carolina Bay Country.). Loving the shots of the flora and fauna and trail towns; keep up the great videography! The MST is pretty awesome and it's great to have an awesome blog to share with people about it.
Thanks! Yeah I feel really lucky to be able to share it!
Looks like you're off to a great start. I'll enjoy following you along.
It was a fun albeit wet beginning. Thanks for following along!
This is so neat, I would love to try this one. Having grown up east, I need to get back there. Fall is the time to go for sure!
I also grew up in the east but have since traveled elsewhere, so this trail is a way for me to get back home as well. 👍
I have heard of the mountains to sea trail.i have subscribed so I can follow along! ☺️ looking forward to it!! You are very wise to pace yourself as you adapt to the hike!!
Thanks for following along! Yeah, it's a pretty neat trail so far. 🙂
Great to see you hiking 🥾 again.
Thanks! Glad to be back!
I just decided to section hike this trail over the next few years and stumbled upon your vid about it. We did the CDT the same year (I watched your vids back then but I never ran into you) and we are both Jenifers with one "n". I'm glad I can learn about your experience!
Hi! I'm sad I didn't meet you on the CDT. There are not many Jenifers (one n) out there. Best of luck on your section hikes! I really enjoyed this trail. Quite a different experience than something like the CDT. If you like cycling or paddling, I liked getting to mix it up on this trail.
Whoa, you definitely had some events right from the start....really cool. I am planning on doing the MST soon, but only in segments, starting right from #1. I'm still getting info about this whole trail....just downloaded the app last night, really impressed on how updates are done.
It's a fun trail and I hope you enjoy it! Lots of variety.
I loved watching your video! I look forward to following your journey. My husband and I are trail angels in segment 5. Find us on the Friends website if we can help in any way.
Hi Shelly! Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked the video, and thanks for being a TA! I'll find your info on the website. Much appreciated!
🎈😊
🙂👍
😁
👍
How many miles did you average a day?
Would you recommend starting late September for an eastbound thru hike? Or do you have other thoughts?
I think that would be fine. I started around September 8th and had some cold mornings in October, but in general the weather was pretty nice. Fall is a great time to hike in NC.
Did you build a spreadsheet of the daily mileage, camp sites, food stops? Getting ready for the trail next year :)
Haha, sorry I am unfortunately not that kind of organized. I have general plans and then I wing it. There are some good resources out there though! The friends of the MST website has lots of info, and since I've done the trail, FarOut (a phone app) had added the MST to their selection. I've used the app for other trails and it's been immensely helpful.
Did you follow this on an app? Or was it very marked?
It's pretty well marked in most places. I did use an app that I believe was just called the "MST" app. I'm not positive, but I don't think it exists anymore. However, FarOut has now added the MST to their selection of thruhikes. FarOut has been a very reliable app for me on other trails.
What is your shelter set up?
I have a Zpacks Duplex tent.
Next time you're hiking do in shorts .😮😅
Haha. I don't know if you mean video shorts, or shorts as in short pants. If videos, maybe, but I like the freedom of long form. If pants, I don't like my white legs getting all burnt and scratched. 😝
Leave mama bear and cubs alone....
That's always the plan
