Actually I don't think this seat fight really means that much, no matter who gets to appoint the nominee, Trump or Biden, you can rest assured that it will be a pro-corporate justice, the only difference is social issues such as abortion and gay rights. But even for those thing, they won't go too extreme, because they want to keep these things open to distract people from things that really matter, like economic issues. That's why Neil Gorsuch suddenly became a swing vote, because they want to keep these things open to distract people.
Trump will never get this kind, of respect after death, as RBG has. Trump’s supporters will long have moved on.

Gerrymandering and the electoral college have got to go. There's no sense in the minority of American populations maintaining a stranglehold over the majority.
Might I suggest a page from the Canadian playbook, we elect on county levels all our seats. Harder to gerrymander a county and you could do away with the electoral college entirely by making the Presidential race about how many counties they actually take. You'd still have some of the regional voting issues, but at least they'd have a lot more work to do trying to explain how your emergency services, and such, needed to be changed to suit a political party's results on election.

Yeah, but Trump is IN OFFICE and is about to place a third conservative judge on the US Supreme Court. There is something to be said for winning, and Repuclicans have been handing Democrats their asses for decades, including when Democrats held majorities in both chambers of Congress. Maybe the loss of that third Supreme Court seat will teach Dems not to wait until democratic rule and the rule of law are at stake to realize that their very fucking lives are at stake and get their asses in gear before things get so desperate.
When the Democrats win both houses and the Presidency they can change the rules and go to 13 justices. That’s the Republican way.
