90% of gamers who searches for the next JA game to play is someone who set the bar too high after playing Jagged Alliance 2. So 90% of the gamers will pass on this mediocre copycat who has 10% better graphics from the 1999 released game but also 90% less content.

Developers don't seem to understand what was so appealing about the series. It was the map control with militia, the training of off screen characters. The gearing up and looting and even crafting certain items. The graphics were not an issue, you were so immersed with the idea that you could be surrounded and ambushed at any time. Developers only focus on the turnbased aspect and the spending of action points.

@@hoodedraider Yes, you became the commander. The game made thinking about the economy and equipment of the team fun and exciting. You had to squeeze out the maximum performance out of your mercs and situations that developed from your choices.
A strategy game where economics, strategy, operations, tactics and supplies are the drama and the onliners from your mercs are the icing on the cake is a superb game indeed.

@@beck103187 To my understanding the JA2 "engine" isn't so much an engine as it is a game - a lot of code is overly entangled with content (i.e. "hard coded") - the parts that weren't were gradually "externalized" (i.e. moved to various setting files so they could be changed by modders). --- I recommend Urban Chaos if you want a totally different game in JA engine thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=360431&&srch=Urban+Chaos

I finished the old JA2 game on PC and playing this now on PS5. It's actually a really fun game. Just go into it expecting a somewhat slimmer experience (2 characters, not a full squad) and you'll have lots of fun. I'm not sure why this review says the ui elements don't work well. To me they work quite well a few smaller glitches aside. Chosing different types of actions or shots is easy. It's very Xcom like in a good way. It's not as good Xcom in terms of animation quality but it doesn't take away from the fun. I love how they retained many of the old favourite characters from JA and their personalities. I picked Ivan of course as one of my two chars. Definitely a fun game for JA fans.

played the first version called J.A. Deadly Game's. Back in the 90's. Loved the idea, of the particular effect's that were based on individual personality & quirk's. That every character in a squad you assembled even { before beginning the game }had to work together in a cohesive plan of action.

Nothing like the JA2. This is total crap compared to the old game which had depth, complexity and will be remembered like one of the gaming masterpieces. This one will fall into nothingness, no one will remember it in just a year or so.

looks at those screens... So, they took the most iconic mercs from the original games (Raven, Shadow, Ivan, etc) killed all the other mercs for cheap drama and to justify new stupid drawbacks? I'm absolutely sure old fans of the series _loved_ it... Not that there wasn't cheap drama in the original games, but at least they didn't repeat the same set-up twice.
