I work security. One of the clients is a luxury apartment complex. Rent there for a 2 bedroom/2 bath is $5200. They're literally only paying for convenience to the spots around the neighborhood and the ridiculously large pool with a fountain statue in the middle of it. 🙄 My 3 bedroom/2 bath HOUSE with 2 door garage in a gated community is 2100/month. Tf is wrong with these people? It's wiser to just get a house but nah people are too lazy to keep up with the upkeep.
@@CaliGramz I completely agree with you that a mortgage payment is the wiser choice because a lot of the times, it’s going to be cheaper per month than renting an apartment. However, after graduating and now in my 3rd year of working, I have not saved enough for a 20% down payment on a 800k-1.2 million dollar home in this area. Not only that, but houses are actually selling above their market value which is absolutely ridiculous. I am jealous you are able to get a house and I hope to be where you are at one day. 👌

This is even funnier as I sometimes watch videos from Cash Jordan, who is a realtor in NYC, and some of the places he'll show are small, unfinished and expensive to all hell. You always have to have four roommates in order to afford anything. I roommed with my sibling in a townhouse for five years and finally knew it was time for me to be on my own, I couldn't imagine having to constantly rely on others to help me pay for a place to live. That makes me feel I've failed in life.

This is barely exaggerated in Manhattan. I moved out of NYC years ago, but I was literally shown a place that was like 6 feet wide and 12 feet long, under the staircase of the apartment buildings lobby, tiny bathroom in back, hot plate and mini fridge, no stove. Guy fully admitted it used to be a storage area and he wanted like $1600 a month (this was 14 years ago...) he even said "yeah its kind of crazy but in this area I can get that much... business is business" I didn't take it. A studio now in an old building is like $2500, and you will likely have mice and a noisy neighbor. It's sad when you make like 100k/year and still realize you can't afford a good place, and if you do get one its a huge part of your income, so you have a hard time saving to buy. I don't see a solution though, that's capitalism and competition.
