  • A "Minnie" Type Traction Engine - Part #1. The Overview. This is a bit of a curiosity as it looks similar to the popular "Minnie" design but is quite different in many ways. It was given to me by a kind viewer from Scotland. In this episode I look at the parts that arrived in a very well made wooden box. / keithappleton

Looks like quite a challenging project, but hopefully the excellent engineering of most of the parts will make it easier

It is a bit of a Horror Story regarding construction, please watch the rest of the series }:-)))

The BA thread system was based on the Swiss Thury thread, I had to look that up. I knew it was a Swiss thread, so Metric based, but did not know that it was converted to imperial. I like to think of it as being very apt for model engineers to use. One of my bosses said to me many years ago. "people go into engineering because they have something to say, so you should always listen". I think the same applies to model engineering, so I also watch & listen, knowing that I am always learning. This time it is the Swiss Thury thread.

The double cog wheel is an "anti-backlash" gear. I have seen them in precision military stuff.

These cogs came from something else, possibly old military parts, this engine is scratch built, no casting were used.

That is some delicate riveting indeed. A lot of patience seems to have gone into this video.
You also stay safe and extremely healthy!

Yes, but nowhere near the patience required to build this engine from scratch }:-)))
