  • Wolfsburg have been trailblazers in women's football, investing in their team when many clubs weren't interested. The financial support from owners Volkswagen has seen the team dominate German football across the past decade and establish themselves as one of Europe's top football clubs. So how did they build their dynasty? And how can they remain at the top as other clubs begin splashing more cash?

Fun Facts: If you realize correctly, 2013 was such a golden year for the German football in general ways. For the first time in the history of European competions, the winner from the men's and women's continental stages came from Germany. Wolfsburg women and Bayern Munich men also completed their own Trebles, winning their Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and of course, the Champions League. This makes Germany the only country to have both Treble winners for the clubs in different genders. Not surprisingly, Bayern Munich also ended the long-year drought of winning the most prestigious title, as their last win came in 2001. In addition, some of their players are contributed to the national team that ended up winning the most prestigious tournaments, with the women's side winning the Euro 2013 in Sweden and the men's side winning the World Cup 2014 after the historic 7-1 win over Brazil. Don't forget that Sweden women and Brazil men were the tournament hosts, at that time.

Great story on one of Europe's best women's teams. As a follower of women's football, I'd like the Kick Off team to do one on the fall of the once mighty Turbine Potsdam. The former European champions are on the verge of relegation. 😢

Great idea! Do you think Potsdam will be able to bounce back if they do go down?

It will be a shame if the largest clubs annually buy championships like in the men’s game. I suppose it is already happening. The women’s leagues had a chance to level the playing field by instituting sensible financial policies. Opportunity missed.

No. The City was builded from the fascists of Hitler. Because of the factory of VW. The past of Wolfsburg is very bad and fascist.

It is just a matter of time Wolfsburg will be left behind because they are not ready to splash the cash for the best talents in the world.
