    I would really like to see the backsplash with the veins running through it instead of the tile stickers. Thanks for doing this Rhonda I have a sink like this that I want to do! This shouldn't affect the plumbing, if it does it is easy to open the holes back up for the drain or the faucet.

      Me too! No one can ever show the backsplash together with the sink as a single pour. It must be possible somehow.

    OK, I'm loving how this turned out. To be honest, not personally a fan of the plastic faux wall tile but they are very popular and I've seen them used in many RV makeovers where it is important to keep weight in mind. Also, since RVs are constantly moving and flexing on the road and especially off-road, the faux tiles are forgiving and stand up to that abuse. For my truck camper kitchen I went with brushed aluminum metallic stick on tiles. Obviously, brushed aluminium would not work for your bathroom faux marble sink. LOL. Only mentioned it because you mentioned there are many different types of faux backsplashes. Thanks for a super tutorial. An Oregon nomad 🌲❤🐶😽❤🌲

      If you’ve taken the sink off of the vanity, you can do the backsplash first by laying it horizontal, letting it set up and then doing the main Surface of the sink

    Does it ever de-laminate from the sink bowl? I asked one epoxy company and they refused to do it. I would just do the pour and put a very thin coat on the backsplash instead of putting the fake plastic tile stuff on the backsplash. The sink was beautiful without the veins! You are so good with the veins you do. Leave it alone, don't chop it. The veins are going down so naturally. Lovely.

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety

      There’s always a chance of delaminating on this type of surface, this is why we always recommend fabricating a new countertop and installing a new sink. If you prep well and use a good bonding primer and quality epoxy, you should have great results. 😊😊

  • @smarthaven

    I absolutely love the flow of veins in the basin. This is exactly what I would love to do with my bathroom sink and counters. My question is about how to do a flood pour over what you have already done, so that the basin is even coated, and how long do I wait to do it? Should I do the pour right away?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety +1

      There’s a couple of ways you can do it. You can flood the basin first and let it start to set up, then do the rest of the Vanity. Or you could tape up the basin pour the flat part of the vanity pull your tape after about 30 minutes and let the resin run down. At that point the resin will be thicker and it will be easier to spread.

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi there. Since this vanity wasn’t attached to pluming, I allowed the epoxy to run down the drain. Once cured, I take a stone grinder and grind it smooth. Backsplashes are difficult and I prefer to do some sort of design “pre-epoxy” so my design doesn’t run. You can let the epoxy set up a bit and then add a tiny bit of color so that is slowly flows down, sort of like I did in the sink area. But I much prefer to take the backsplash off and pour it flat.

    How long does epoxy last in a sink? Like a main bathroom sink- household of five.... Also, I LOVE fairy farts/diamond dust(🤣), white base and oyster shell base!! However, my sinks have issues with turning a yellow tint. Hard water type issues. What would work better than the grey and black to create the striations and cover that better??

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 4 lety +1

      As long as you don’t use an abrasive cleaner, epoxy will last a lifetime. As far as hard water stains, I’m not sure how I would address that. Maybe use colors that would camouflage any hard water drips.

    How would you do this without taking it off the vanity and won’t the epoxy damage the drain?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 3 lety +1

      You will have to disconnect the plumbing and tape the insides of the drain so the walls of the drain don’t get epoxy. The rest of the finish would be the same if it’s in place.

    Just wonder how it would do to stick the backslash on then do the flood coat? Then a bead would not be needed...that is unless the flood coat material eats the backsplash material. I personally would rather the backsplash be the same as the rest of it.

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety

      You could do that for sure, but then it would be very difficult to remove if needed. You would have to score the bottom with a knife. I agree I would like it the same as well but the client sent me the backhand wanted me to incorporate it in a video.

    I would like to see more color and stronger veins with less weight. It appears to me to be overly white, which is just my opinion. I would also prefer to see the backsplash done the same. method rather than the sticker tile.

    Rhonda no body thinks of the mechanics of the sink. Those holes are for plumbing. I did this and spent so much energy redrilling the holes so the new faucet and sink ring and plumbing would fit. Along with the sink ring being flush to get a seal. Think about some way to keep the integrity of those holes. Maybe a cut toilet roll with tape around it or Vaseline on the tape. Any ideas???

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 3 lety

      That’s a very good question. You can line the drain with tape before you start to pour to prevent the epoxy from building up. We have a small stone grinder bit that we use to grind any epoxy that may have gotten past the tape.

    Hey Rhonda! I have a question on the Bonder. The directions on the XIM Uma confused me. In one place it reads wait 3 hours to dry for top coat, but 24 hours for 2 part component paint. I have no idea what that means. You stated you did 2 coats. How long did you wait in between coats and how long before the paint? Thanks! Ps love the videos!

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 3 lety

      Great question! I do two thin coats and wait about an hour between coats. I then wait overnight before I go to the next step. I do the fingernail test (make sure it doesn’t scratch off) before I go to the next step as well. 😊

      If the sink didn’t have an integrated backsplash, you could definitely cut a piece of MDF, pour a finish and when dry, liquid nail it to the wall. We do that all the time. 😊😊

    Would a person dare to do a epoxy finish on the inside of a claw foot tub? I'm really wanting to try. The fact that no one has tried it gives me pause. I only paid like 70 bucks for it. Any thoughts?

    • @RK3Designs
      @RK3Designs  Před 2 lety

      That’s a really large vertical area to get the epoxy to stick to without having to do so many coats. It would be almost impossible to get a pattern because it would run. Also, most epoxies aren’t made to be submerged for any length of time. There are much better products on the market suites for a bathtub application. 😊

    Would have been helpful to see how you prepped a real sink...Surely having that epoxy drip down the drain isn't good. I've undon my plumbing but if there is epoxy build up where the drain goes the new drain plug won't sit right. How do you avoid that? You didn't address that.
