Fenbendazole is not available as a home treatment in EU but you can use Flubendazole which is actually more effective an safer as it's more difficult to overdose afaik BUT flubendazole is not shrimp safe (and I'm actually surprised if fenbendazole is either but apparently you did not kill your shrimps).
Hi! What type of substrate do you use? I've been using eco-complete but for something I'm having problems with my plants growing(specifically my dwarf hairgrass) and I'm looking to start a shrimp aquarium in the future! Thank you!
That is true, Northie. It can be scary to use chemicals on any type of pet you have. For me, my tank is completely free of living animals, so I will deworm my tank with chemicals. That is the only option I have, since rinsing my ENTIRE tank/ doing a 100% water change(to a state of recycling) didnt work.
I'm not opposed to deworming. I deworm my fish with 50% prazi in quarantine to avoid possible gill and body flukes as well as cestodes (tapeworms). I'd rather use relatively benign dewormer than risk my entire stock. I'm putting a lot of chemicals in my tank in the form of plant food anyway so for me dewormers are not a problem as long as I know how they work. Prazi is of course completely ineffective against nematodes where flubendazole comes in.
I've not had any trouble with flube either as long as I'm using it with fish. I know for sure that flube kills snails with nearly 100% efficiency and can kill shrimps as well. It also persists very long if you use powdered flube meaning if you add snails to a flube tank after 100% water change there's pretty good chance it kills them even after a week or two of not using the product. I'm merely surprised fenbendazole does not do the same.
If I had to reduce number of planaria in my tank I'd try prazi first. It's much more safer option with shrimps but may not kill all planaria.
I've found that SL-Aqua Purify and SL-Aqua Z-1 lay waste to planaria rather quickly. No harm to fish, shrimp, or plants.
Hey *AQUAPROS* and others interested:
Planarians do not bite or sting your shrimp, they can't really do that. Having only one soft hole called a pharynx that serves as a mouth an butthole, they can't really get past the shrimp exoskeleton. What probably happens is that they munch on the eggs directly, or eat the fry. There isn't much research on this topic (though I plan on changing that).
However, as someone who has put more time than you would expect into the study of planarian biology, I will tell you a few things about them that may or may not be of help but will probably be interesting:
1: From what I have surmised this species, which seems to be mostly the same in all aquarium, is asexually reproducing. They do this by what can be described as tearing off their tail and having their tail grow eyes and a mouth. They might also get cut up into bits in the filter, with each bit regenerating into a new animal or clone. Planarians have an amazing regenerative capacity to the point where one animal cut into over 100 bits will develop into over 100 clones.
2: There is some tentative evidence that planarian mucus (the slime layer they move on similar to snails and slugs) has some kind of compound toxic to crustaceans but nothing conclusive.
3: Some people suggest that planarians have the ability to hunt as a pack, swarming their prey and incapacitating their victim as they collectively feed off of it. From what I have found there is only 1 scientific source documenting this event. This source being one from my collaborators and I from about 2 years ago and still requires further investigation.
These three points make sense evolutionarily, let me explain: The large group of genetically identical individuals collectively work together to acquire themselves food. This is only a theory, however, it's a good one if I do say so myself.
Sorry for the rant, but I had to talk flatworms, I have not talked flatworms in weeks.
What about detritus worms, please can you comment on them ? I get really sweamish about small worms, everything else I’m ok with...
can planaria infect human?
@@fathanhanifimadamahendra1331 not the type you’d find in your aquarium, in fact, I don’t think any planarians can infect humans, however their close relatives, tapeworms, do
I'm assuming they arnt harmful to fish either then? I have some in my Molly tank what if the mollies eat them?
I noticed they come out when I put frozen cube of brine shrimp in net to keep it contained in top corner of tank for fish to nibble on.
Shortly after they crawl up glass hunting
Nuke' em!!!! The launch codes are "FENBENDIZOLE"
Love the honesty of your posts. You never hide it when u have issues with ur tanks. Thanks

I will forever enjoy each video for the foreseeable future. It's almost as if I get to hang out with my buddy again. Thank You.
Keep up the good work my friend.
dude this tank looks awesome! i wish i could find rocks like that without having to spend a ton of money on fishtank-ready rock
Congrats on 100k. Love the hardscape on this layout can't wait to see it filled in.
the scape looks amazing! always impressed with your work
Great video again Mike!
I really enjoyed! Congrats on 100K! You deserve it! #fishfam
Planaria sucks!
I had it in a 5 gallon tank! I removed everything and I'm going to start it back up again soon. I didn't know what to do. Now I know what to do when it happens again.
Oh, and thanks for the follow on Instagram! I really appreciate it!
Keep up the good work and thumbs up as always!
+Danny's Aquariums Thanks for stoppin by 🤠
You got them because of overfeeding
I love your channel. Thanks for sharing!
This is why I can only manage 3, max 4 tanks at a time these days. If I try more, something ends up going to hell. 25 years ago I had roomsfulls, but I was in the business then -and had a lot more energy.
Good luck with the planaria. Love the new scape
Hardscape looks awesome mike! Monte Carlo or dwarf hairgrass Belem carpet would be an awesome plant here
This happened to my tank too... I was away from home for 3 weeks so my mom took care of FEEDING(over feeding) 🤣🤣🤣 the fish and shrimps.
Congratulations on 100K subs - love the escape, and it can still be called Shrimp Mountain!
The hardscape looks good man!
JsAquaStuff k
The tunnel is fantastic, I like it. Keep it!! Now I got inspired to re-do my small tank ... :D
Perfection my friend that shrimp tank looks great
Broooo how can you let a tank get like that?
exactly
You get an open tank and the rest of the stuff are easy to find.
Congrats on 100k love your vidoes
it's advisable to remove as many planaria as possible before medicating, so they dont rot in the substrate. traps are easy to make, use raw liver as bait, remove the trap before the lights come on.
btw: glass is much nicer, but plastic petri dishes have a huge advantage. they are light enough for snails to push them around, preventing the substrate underneath grom geting icky.
Gz for the 100k! I have planarias in my shrimptank, never seen them go for the shrimp though, just their food. I took an air tube and started a syphen and sucked up the ones i saw, but i guess gonna have to keep doing this to be succesfull ;D
Looks great and job well done on the clean up....👍
Love it looks great! ❤🐠🍀
As always great content!
The rock design is my favourite!!! Oh wow
It looks amazing!!!
Hi, I seem to have detritus worms, limpets, and Planaria, do you reckon this treatment would work against all of them?
Thanks.
Huge clean up, water change reduce food and a trap (home made air line into a test tube is great)
"No Planaria" works really well too. Used it with my CRS shrimp and had no deaths. It killed off the ramshorn snails in the tank too.
I like it. Really good footage of planaria, helpful.

awesome video as always!
The tank looks great!
The hardscape and plant choice looks good.
Tank looks great 👍
that shrimp mountain loooks epic!!
I just subscribed great info thank you for that ! 🐓 🐔. 🐣🐣🐤🐤💕
Love it I think that this is cooler than the old shrimp mountain scape
thats dope man 😎🔥
Store bought dog dewormer works. Get the small dog box and use a pinch. Any deworm solution might kill off shrimps fyi. But clears planaria quick. Cleaning your substrate often is the best prevention. For planted tanks snails and clams that burrow in the substrate help keep it clean and aerated. Hope this helps
Love the hard scape!
Wait, perhaps African Dwarf Frogs?
you won the race with Cory from aquarium Co op to the 100k mark! well done, the Co op will be soon, awesome channel too
4:28 Nice aquascape!
Awesome scape!
You can actually use a -bendazole for helping with human worm infections too! -a medical student
Id be devistated to find out I had worm and on top of it be concerned about taking the medicine. Its not even a half and half dicision, more like scary and scarier situation.
worm infections can be devastating to find out about because its such a tangible species; you know what a worm looks like, how it moves and its gross, but then you learn you have them growing and living inside you. Like i said, devastating haha. But the common infections are usually mild and the medications for them are extremely effective and rapid at eradication of the infection. Worm infections are also pretty rare unless youre a kid or have kids that play in the dirt a lot and dont wash their hands; most worm larvae and cysts (egg) live there.
Exactly, that is a good perspective. Though external worms dont really bother or seem gross me, internal does. If there is any side effect of the medicine I guess it better than having worms, I would be soo paranoid. Kind of like I am about my fish having them. I think I have the tank clear of them and there is no host in the tank for any worms. Just detritus worms, which im going to let them clean my tank and then vaccum before I put fish in. Time to wait and see.
Medicus Piscis hey I eat a lot of sushi.. I think I got parasite. what medicine do you recommend?
i see you have some blue stricta in the front of your tank, do you have any tips on keeping the plant low. what should i do if the plant has grown too tall for my tank and only has leaves on the very top??
Hope it all gets sorted out 😊
I like the aquascape thing, you are able to creato your own world in a small space
How would the worms come back if the tanks been dewormed?
What size packets did u use.. In Rob's video he said use 1 gm per 100 lbs..... so .10gms would treat 10 gallons? I have heard overdosing can make your shrimp become deformed..
love the hardscape
That jungle at the beginning :D
I used fenbendazole to start and Im not sure if its killing anything. I think my tank has flatworms, so im going to try Salifert Flatworm Exit if that doesnt work then its not any of the parasites. What could it be if it isnt flatworms? My last option is soaking everything in salt....UPDATE:...The fenbendazole didnt kill any worms on the glass, maybe it killed some other parasite unsee to me(it was worth a shot, i wont my tank free of all parasites). So I did the flatworm exit and the ones on the glass are gone overnight. Now all I have left is the true detritus worm that wiggles in the soil/gravel(never on the glass). Im currently letting them clean up my tank(maybe they'll help cycle my tank?), and at the end of the month gravel vaccum before I put shrimp in.
That tank is awesome
I put some shrimp in my tank and about a week later my tank was infected with ick worms. Is this normal? Was it the shrimp that carried the parasite? What caused this?
I notice there are some white fungus like layer appear on my substrate in my new shrimps tank. I used nitrifying bacteria for the tank before putting shrimps in there. Are those white fungus part of the nitrifying bacteria ?
8:53 any1 else see the snail covered up with the substrate?
In front of the dwarf hairgrass?
Jason Maslen yeah
Lol yeah i was wondering what that was!
O that's what it was!
omg thats sad
Have you had otos for a while ? I have a hard time keeping them alive. What ph are you at ? How did you acclimate them and how long ?
Tank has magical part. I don't even know where did a tiny snail suddenly appear in my tank for after a few months.
Nice. Will the Anubias get any larger?
I think the de-wormer killed all your shrimp too, I don't see any after the treatment.
Does that medicine hurt the shrimp, fish or snails?
I have a 10 gallon about treat it I got the exact same stuff as you how many grams is that in your pack? I mean in one pack? For mine only one pack right since it’s 10 gallons..? Thanks I know video is older but still wanted to ask and learned from it.
Very nice!
Should probably clean that diffuser or think of getting a better one haha
What happen to your shrimps after the treatment?
Run s repens through the middle of the rock tear drop? I personally think it would look great but I am pretty new to aquascaping haha
Are worms bad my shrimp don't seem to mind? I panicked when I first saw them, but it seems they are like mini aquatic earthworms.
Edit: mine aren't planaria. Smaller
put in some corydoras. they will eat them. corys are shrimp friendly. but of course "no planaria" helps too.
!!!ATTENTION!!!
POINT .1 gram per 10 gallons. One packet does 100 gallons.
So I just bought 3 RCS for my fairly new 3.5g tank. It seems that some planaria hitchhiked over when I dropped the RCS in. I wiped most of them off the sides, but there are a few left there are in places I can't reach. Does anyone know if the product used will kill my one nerite snail? If so, what would be the next best option? Thanks for any advice. Excuse my ignorance xD
This is one great hardscape.
I've never had a worm problem. What I did get was a snail infestation in my tank. Like lots of little snails
Man i got a 30 gallon tank that wont stop getting cloudy i done too all fish out and started the tank freshi threw all plant away only kept 2 banana plants any tips on how to stop this
aquascape is clean i like the change
You only used the Canine Dewormer once? And waited for a week? Bc you said, when you use it, you have to wait for 3 days but when you fast forward it, you said after a week. So I am kind a confused.
Let me clarify, put the medication, wait for 3 days, then after that, do a big water change? How often like once a day?
Hopefully you can answer me bc I have this problem in my tank. Thank you
Great video! Very informative. Love the scape! What substrate is that? I like it. Congratulations on 100k😀❤️👍🎉
is PANACUR safe for planted aquarium ?
Would that treatment also work for hydra I'm getting a out break of it in my 10 gallon shrimp tank
Lordmonfil my son has an axelotle tank and I ordered some moss on line, 2 weeks later we had hydra, what we used is hydrogen peroxide. You'll have to take out fish and sensitive feeders like corys, then you take a syringe or turkey baster and directly squirt the hydra and where they like to collect, you may need to wait a few days before adding back fish and do a large water change, your tank will re cycle tho and they will return so keep on them or use dog de wormer pellets crushed up...hope this helps and in future if adding new plants do a small bleach bath on them to kill hijackers.you can find solutions to hydra on CZcams. Hope it gets better
Lordmonfil My turtle 125 gal turtle tank was covered in hydra and all it took was draining about 90% of the water. This was far easier for me because all I had to do was remove the turtle and I don't have substrate. This won't be as easy for you. Also, check your filtration and don't let food collect in the tank. Hydra tend to form in tanks when they have prey to hunt. This means that they hydra may be the least of your problems and you might have a type of small worm providing the hydra with food.
do you to remove all your fish to do a treatment like this?
luv the 'arch'
A dynamic scape really digging it mayne
When i bought 2 amano shrimp one had a planaria inside it so when it died i captured the planaria and killed it and i had no planaria afterwards but the only worms that are in my aquarium are debris worms that don't do any harm and instead clean my aquarium gravel =D
I also have the same problem to resolve this is possible to itroduce some Betta or botia into the tank
Are these the same as very micro size white worms?(also known as detritus worms i think)
does the medication work with worms in fish?
Can you add iron fertilizer to a planted shrimp tank??? Asking for a friend.
Did you treat the tank with shrimp inside?
Better get the dog de-wormer out.
You beat Cory to 100K.
If you are certain that all the planaria are gone from this tank, how is it possible that they may come back? Sorry to ask that question but I'm new to this hobby.
How high is the dose of febendazol per pack?
How do you get planaria worms in the tank to begin with
How to get rid of dirt worm. Have used many medications like Seachem Cupramine and paragaurd. I also did many water changes but had no success. Hope so someone has a proper solution. Thanks
How do the plants root and live in the rock. I was wondering that same question when I watched the avatar tank build
When we import shrimp at work we always get them in. Have found gouramis eat them and seem to leave the shrimp alone.
You're tear drop looks good
do you have to take the fish out before you treat it?
Wondering why you didn’t hydrovac most of them out while the tank was between scapes.
I have a Cat fish that loves things like worms, it eats anything. It would eat my Tinfoil barbs if they weren't so big. I like having a Cat fish in my tank to eat up food that ends up on the bottom.
Can somebody explain how worms and other multicellular organisms can just form in a tank without being introduced by the owner of the tank as I’m genuinely confused, thanks
