Dawson became a star with the Expos and he became a legend with the Cubs. Just an awesome baseball player.
I remember him killing us as an Expo but he only looks good in Cub blue. I was so happy and shocked he just signed for 500g since he wanted to play at Wrigley. I'll never forget '87. Last place and yet it was such a fun season because of him. One of my all time favorite Cubs.
Wrigley Field was unique because it was a natural grass field and at that time (1987) they did not have lights and only played daytime baseball.
One of my favorite players of all time "The Hawk" Andre Dawson. He could hit for average, hit for power and steal bases, but perhaps his greatest skill was throwing runners out from Center Field or Right Field. He had a very accurate arm, and won 8 Gold Gloves.
The HAWK was a beast of a player. One of the best all time. He was on my stratomatuc team and he was rated top on everything except bunting. Batted 3rd for me on a team that was loaded with .300 hitters. If ya like baseball, you should check out stratomatic baseball and their football versions. I played them for 20 years growing up and I think that's what kept me out of trouble. He has always been one of my all time favorites.
Favorite player of all time.
Awesome guy! How many players would tell a team, when negotiating a salary, “I don’t care. I just want to play.”
*VERY FEW* Andre is da man
Not Deebo
It has nothing to do with awesomeness. It was collusion, and Hawk was royally screwed by MLB.
He hit line-drive home runs... his shots rarely went over 30-40 feet in the air... and went out... so much power.
My favorite player as a kid!
Before Sheffield, Andre probably had the most ferocious swing I've ever seen....the wind of it created would knock you down.
His was a lot more compact than Gary's but the bat speed for both was crazy.
Believe it or not I played in the minors against Sheffield. K'd him too. : )
His bat speed was incredible. Never seen any other Major Leaguer swing as fast as Andre Dawson.
Awesome, I had him autograph my baseball once and he has very nice calligraphy. Very gentle and polite man. Too bad the 1982 Expos didn't make it to the World Series.
His 1987 season was enough to make me switch from a Mets fan to a Cubs fan. That has never happened with any other of my favorite sports teams. Just think what he could have been if he didn't have to play on that astro turf
My favorite player growing up. Too bad he ruined his knees in Montreal.
Olympic Stadium was brutal, apparently all cement under that lousy fake turf. Any other park, such a surface would have deemed unplayable from the heat alone.
I lived in Chicago when Andre landed with the Cubs, it was fantastic watching him.
Growing up as a kid in Maywood, Illstate, Westside of Chicago, for those of us that lived in the West burbs or Westside, the Cubs were our team over the Sox. Andre Dawson was my favorite player as a kid. I used to go play baseball in the pee-wee leagues and patterned my whole swing off of his. As I got older Bonds became my favorite but man the Hawk aka Awesome Dawson was such an amazing player for the Cubbies!
💯 to everything u said!
I remember The Hawk wanted to go to the Hall as a Cub
I don’t remember what made Andre my favorite player as a kid… but this reaffirmed I made the right choice
Andre Dawson was awesome! Go Cubs! ❤️💙
4:51 "There's the kid across the street with the souvenir" Harry the guy's like 38 years old LOL.
LOL So true. That was Harry.
That home run at 3:42. I've NEVER seen someone land in the upper deck in the Astrodome before!
4:05 OMG, those powder blue cleats......smoooooth
Loved watching him growing up
Great player
My all time favorite. Love ya so much hawk
Still my all time favorite Cub.
Hawk and Ryno Starting Lineup figures, the only "toys" I kept. Dog ate Hawk's bat though.
Yanks fan here but the Hawk was a beast of a player with Expos and Cubs
Thanks for sharing. Maybe a version with only original audio and none of that music?
Lookin' pretty fly in those Expos all white uni's to start it off but Cubbie blue is always the best.
i was at a game in pittsburgh Dawson made a throw from right field the runner didnt even think about it
@2:28 "AWWW, LOOK OUT! By the time that ball comes down, it'll be the middle of next week!.....YELLOW seats!" - NBC Game of the Week call - April 16, 1983.
You don't see it in the video, but Dawson launched that LaCorte pitch right into the top deck of the Astrodome.
It has now been 40 years, but it remains one of the most mammoth home runs I've ever seen.
A great Player .
Hawk was my favorite as a kid. He could do it all, but hitting bombs was what i think i liked most about him... And his batting stance. Hunched over the plate and glaring at the pitcher. Was mean and the swing was mean too.
I remember when Eric Show hit him in the head with a pitch. He went down to the ground for a while and got up, his face all bloody. He charged him and benches cleared. I would've ran to center field if that was me...
Dawson, Raines, Carter, Wallach. The Expos were stacked in the 80s. .
Had the Hawk on my stratomatic team. Uber talented vastly underrated.
4:27 there’s a paramount truck. This maybe the day when the Ferris buellers day off scene was filmed when they go to the ball game.
Hawk didn’t join the team til like two years after the movie came out.
That's a good eye
Me acuerdo de la temporada del 87, con los 49 home runs!
I like how he steps into the pitch. It’s much like how the hitters in the early 1900s hit. Ex. Ruth, Gehrig, Hornsby.
I’ve met him in real life
great!
He is good🤯
Y muy bien con los Cubs!
Hawk!
He had an rocket launcher on his right arm
If he were been played his first 11 season in Boston ,new York or Chicago ,and not in the olímpic stadium ,Canada ,he Will be cosiderated one of the Best outfielders of all time .
great player. 7th all time in power plus speed.
That background music = not awesome
s'good! this was b4 tard drumachine garbage came along
Da-Big 3 Tim💦’s Gary Carter & The most Infamous🦾⚾️🦅Andre Awesome Dawson
What he really coulda done if not for the bad knees cause of that crappy turf in Montreal! As it stands he's a HOF. Long overdue that was.
He used to kill the Cubs when he was with the Expos. Then the Cubs got him and being from Chicago I was elated. He was the core of the Cubs for quite some time.
He killed every team..lol
.
If this isn’t five tool I don’t know what is
Vastly underated during his time, esp. up in Canadull, his knees had to be worked on before every game, and he was still the best fielder out there.
Plus the total class of signing with the Cubsfor low pay with bonuses clauses after Montreal stiffed him - then hitting 49 HRs.
I met em
Man that astro turf looks awful. I can't even imagine play on it, let alone diving on it.
What a dumb game
He was never underrated
Dawson's in the Hall of Fame undeservedly and he won an undeserved MVP. He was and is the opposite of "underrated."
what game were you watching?
"You people" are so jealous 😆
Bruh.
@@jacknumberone600 ... The ones you weren't, apparently.
@@calculatedmethodology3494 ... What does this even mean
Also the first semi-openly homosexual player in MLB history! What a hero!
You must be a Cardinals fan.
