      Russell, assuming they haven’t already been replaced it a good option to purchase new speaker for rings and repair the existing ones. You need a speaker with the same or similar diameter for a direct replacement. The convertible rear speakers have similar size midrange speakers but they are mounted in boxes together with large tweeters. The basic speaker size is OD 6.25" with mounting holes at 5.75" for both front and rear midrange speakers on both coupe and convertible. Although the speaker design does alter if combined with other component speakers. You can see more detail of the rear speakers in this video czcams.com/video/jc1qRUtbgNw/video.html. Hope that helps. Craig, thank you for the compliment. The premium sound system has a head-unit and additional amplifier in the boot. All speakers including the subwoofer are wired directly to the amplifier not the head-unit. If you have a convertible there are additional subs in the rear seat side speaker pods and coupe has a large single sub in the middle of the rear parcel shelf. Hope that helps, regards Damian

    Are the base head units for a 1997 XK8 with 6 station presets to the end of MY1997 use the same connectors and physically and electrically interchangeable with the base unit from MY1998 with 9 presets

      Dave, I tryed to cover this in the video at 11min:30sec in. MY1998 with 9 presets should have the same white 20 pin connector, although this eventually changed. Need to be sure of the part number and look at the connector. Please note the radio surround on the dashboard will need to be changed as the front face of the radio is a different shape on the later 9 preset head-units. Hope that helps, regards Damian

    • @ODRModurol

      John, easiest is to try a Jaguar dealer and see if they can assist based on the cars registration. Might not be able
      or prepared to help and will probably charge but not sure. The other option is to get the code from one of the many eBay sellers offering the service for a couple of quid. You do need to remove the radio it gets its serial number in that case. Sorry don’t have a definitive answer as haven’t had that issue to solve myself. I love my premium sound in my 04 XKR but CD player/change is dead - the only use I can get out of her is radio and it's a damn shame because the system is fantastic otherwise. CD changer died (had the continual error E1 code when a disc was stuck I think) anyway I would love to replace the head unit only whilst retaining everything else like the amp and all speakers but I'm sure it would cost heaps to get a bloke to install just a head unit and wire it into the amp only. I will probably leave the radio as the only function usable - sad really.

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  Před 3 lety

      Trevor, sadly I think you are correct if you get someone else to do it. However, there are wiring kits available for this type of modification. Plug and play. My CD changer is broken too. Intend to fix it at some point. I use a blue tooth cassette with my smart phone. It works quite well and is very easy to use except for remembering to charge it up. I do intend to install an old parrot hands free and music streaming unit. Found these very convenient and still keeps the OEM head unit. Will be doing videos on all this stuff in time. Might want to take a look at Bluetooth add ons that use the CD input. See attached www.discountcarstereo.com/a2d-jag97.html Hope that helps regards Damian

      @@ODRModurol Thanks Damian, I will watch how you progress with yours before I move forward...I'm in no hurry currently.
      I did notice your link points to the add on for cars up to 97 however I saw the link on that page for the later "A2D-JAG98 MUSIC STREAMING MODULE FOR SELECT 1997-06 JAGUAR WITH CD CHANGER" so I guess this is the one I will need. I have removed my CD changer entirely as I had tried another method of stripping the connector and I made a right mess of it. One instance where my skills just weren't up to the task. I also tried an adapter from a bloke in Germany but the connection was wrong (it was female or male can't quite remember now but it was the wrong gender) this is where I tried to make the correct gender if I remember correctly - anyway I botched it. I had bought 2 of these things of the German bloke but both were wrong. I then gave up...I will follow your videos for knowledge and inspiration! Thanks again.

      @@ODRModurol Darn it - I just re-read the requirements for the module I found - it needs the cd changer to function! That's me discounted lol. Maybe a head unit swap is my only option with the help of a correct adapter that will also have Jag type Amp plugs etc...now that will be pretty impossible to find I bet LOL.
      Thinking positive I'll say "no worries" - It's ok because I like the rumble of my V8 (large centre muffler removed and replaced with an X-Pipe to acquire a little more burble, it's a bit more but not quite rumbly enough really - I thought I would try a slightly different approach than the back boxes/over axle delete as yet) I'm also happy with the whine of my supercharger when I feel like moving quicker😁 I'll send you a photo of her if I can at some point - platinum silver 04-05 in-between model that I have mentioned to you in the past I think.

    Hi Damian. Great information you’re sharing. I’ve recently purchased a 1999 XK8 convertible with a LJB4100AA head unit. Do you know it’s power output rating as I’m trying to marry up with new front and rear speakers? Keep up the good work!

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  Před 3 lety

      Mick, I believe the LJB4100AA(AJ9850R) was 35 watts per channel. The radio head unit should be a label with the rating on if you want to be 100% sure. I have some other videos on fitting speakers and they can all be found in this playlist. czcams.com/play/PLCgwrY7zZri9sUTDr7nZkWYbdmeGU15n8.html . Hope that answers your query. @@ODRModurol Ive watched them all mate! I’d like to try some higher end speakers but was unsure if the head unit would drive them. In which case it would kind of defeat the whole point as the standard set are reasonable. (I’d rather avoid running cables everywhere for amps etc...) I suppose it’s a question of whether a modern speaker of similar spec would produce any improvement.

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  Před 3 lety +1

      Mick, ok great. my experience was that the OEM speaker where quite a good compromise. The component speakers where definitely better due to the spacing of the speakers and you get what you pay for. I went very cheap. As you say in the end its limited to the performance of the head unit mine struggles a bit a high volume. My very early head unit is only 20watts per channel so you've got quite a bit more power so should be better and have more speaker options. I want to keep the car mostly original and not change the radio but it is really crap at 20watt/channel. Hope that helps regards Damian
