Cockatiel singing to a cat

- One of our cockatiels, Kiki, is singing to our 19lbs cat, Samuel. The other cockatiel's name is Chip.
2011 November 09: The saddest day for us: Chip, our little baby has passed away after battling liver cancer for 11 months. We are devastated. Rest In Peace our dearest baby.... What a sad day.... Thanks EVERYONE who offered their sympathy.

I think the cockatiel Kiki is expressing affection for the cat. The cat responds by reaching out to it lovingly with his paw . I'm sorry to hear about the other cockatiel, Chip, who has passed away. It's not easy to accept. Cockatiels are so cute with their red cheeks. I never had one But I do look after outside cats where I live. .

He will start signing when he is happy, lol. Chip was singing his head off in sunny mornings for example, or after food, or whatever made him happy. I'm no expert, but this was his thing.

We had Chip since he was born in 2001. Sam came from the street in 2002, and Kiki is a rescue since 2003. They are all well and together till this day. We also have two other cats that are just as friendly to the birds. They know who is family and who is not (cats go nutts when they see birds outside).
The cats instincts say, "I must kill my prey."
The cats heart says," it's sounds beautiful."
Thus the cat practically pets it. :S

I will never favor having cats while having birds. No matter what, the bird will always be the one who loses.
Kiki sang so beautifully!! I am enjoying her singing with utmost pleasure. They three (Kiki,Chip,Samuel) are so beautiful too. Its sad knowing little Chip has passed. I knows how terrible the feelings was losing our little baby. Sending my condolences to you.

The saddest day of my life was when our songbird passed away too, at least you have footage of them to look back on that will bring you bittersweet memories, but also a comfort and joy of their life!

I have 3 cats, my cat Oscar I could see doing this. We have rescued several birds, a a baby squirrel and a baby bunny, He has always been so protective until we were able to get them to the proper rescue facilities. I have 1 cat that would have devoured the bird and 1 that I just don't know what she would have done.

My grandmother was battling alzheimers for years, and during those years I took care of her cockatiel, Tweetybird. She ended up dying last year and a couple weeks later he developed cancer and died as well. They really are such wonderful pets. I'm sorry about your loss. ):

my baby cockatiel Precious was about 21 years old when she passed this February. It was so sad but she lived a good long life just like your baby Chip. Thank you for posting this video I love birds and the joy they bring.
My cockatiel LOVED to sing to my cats! He was in love with them! I miss him. So very sorry to hear that chip has passed on. I know that is so, so difficult.
my brother-in-law had an African Grey Parrot that lived amicably with their (indoor) cat. After he grieved Bocephus, he got a baby African Grey who was skeletally deformed (breeder would have destroyed him if he took him back) so this lil HIGHLY vulnerable, bright, funny bird lived with their cat until she passed away last year. she never EVER attempted to even smack him (and he SO harrassed her!) the love & affection cross-species can be deeply sincere & truly awesome!
This reminds me of my cockatiel Topper I had many years ago and my folks cat. Topper would sing and talk to Dusty. If the cat wasn't in the room, Topper would call for him and Dusty would go to him. Dusty learned early not to mess with the bird as he received a few good bites in the beginning. After that, they became pals. Cute video! Thanks for sharing.

Awww to cute , my parakeet is the same way with my cat but he'll sit on her head and just chat away. I love watching them two interact , its the cutest thing.
How gently kitty touches the bird.
My cat also seems to like it when I whistle. She will come to me when I do it, rather than stay away or whine that she's upset. This cat seems to find bird whistling interesting and is being gentle with the bird. And the fact that the birds don't seem to fear the cat, is also noteworthy. Not sure how they'd get along without human supervision, tho ...
Cockatiel has the BEAST UNDER MIND CONTROL WITH ITS MELODY...
Reminds me of my cockatiel Topper that I rescued back in 1969 and my folks cat Dusty which my ex and I acquired after my folks died. Whenever the cat would put his paw up like that into the bird's face, Topper would nip him. After just a few times of doing this and getting nipped, the cat stopped. They became the best of buddies. In fact, if Dusty was out of sight for too long of a time, Topper would call him and the cat went running to him. Thanks for sharing this. Sorry about Chip!
