I totally hear you about taking a break from “hurr durr real driving.” I used to drive a manual ND Miata club every day and moved on to an automatic GR Supra 3.0. It’s nice not having to think and just enjoy a comfortable driving experience in a fast car.
Toyota needs to make it easier for people to buy this car at MSRP. It’s a great piece of engineering.

Dude I don’t know how anyone into cars complains about shifting. I do it on auto pilot in regular traffic. I only think about shifting during spirited drives and even then is still almost feels like auto pilot lol.

it is honestly the perfect combo in my opinion, grc is still raw but very practical and forgiving where the miata is just pure joy and a great release from the daily comforts
Have to agree with you about the clutch, I've heeled toed for a long time (i find this car a bit strange to do it with peddle placement) and I could see why some people might be prematurely burning up clutches. I make sure to go all the way in and out smoothly as that last little bit is tricky/feels different to any other manual I have driven. Also agree on the iMT, I like manuals but using it as a DD i think it is a great option to have a manual but not feel like I am racing on track just to get around town. Personally I think you hit most points, it is still an econobox hatchback and it feels like that, though I think the seats could be better bolstered.
Congrats! Sold my Corolla hatch for a WRX but that was before they announced the GR. I don't regret it as my next car will probably be an Evo or GTR32 or 33.

Great video, pure joy. I have a focus ST here in Melrose that is probably slower than your new toy! But is almost as good a deal maybe better if you don’t need the Awd (and there’s always the RS). But, not a Toyota.. my engine already needed a new piston once 😂

Waiting for your opinion on the Core cloth seats. Everyone tracking the GR Corolla says that the Suede seats, Premium Edition and Circuit Edition work better.

I agree, I was debating throwing in some aftermarket seats with some stitching and color but these seats are actually super nice so I gotta find color to add in other places

FYI if you want to record the exhaust sound proper, disable traction control fully by holding down the traction control button for a few seconds until "expert mode" light goes off. Then you can bounce off the rev limiter while in neutral.

I just sold my wrx sti and I'm buying a GR I was gonna buy a new wrx but this GR is beautiful
I haven't gotten one of these yet, but seeing 7:39 is really interesting to me. Putting in that module sounds great for a daily driver. Also as a canadian who will likely get a core that doesn't have the heated steering wheel, im very interested to see that your 7:39 video seems to show all the wiring for a switch is there just no relay and button. Thus I see potential hope that with just those it might work. Otherwise the car might require the clock spring and wheel with the heating element. But very promising to see what looks like complete wiring there.
I saw on the grcorollaforum that you can order the heated wheel oem but no one was sure if they had successfully installed it. I’m also curious
@@Ian-yt yeah I first found out it may be possible from the same forum post. I also haven't seen anyone post about trying it. very curious
@@Ian-yt there is now updates to that forum post that does confirm that retrofitting is possible on canadian core models, as they have the full cold weather wiring harness. it seems like you can also retrofit it to US cars if they have the tech package, as they also get the full harness. if you don't have that package it seems like the wiring is missing and you are not able to unless you buy and replace the entire harness for 1300$+, and noone has attempted that as far as I can see

I honestly don't think I would have been able to consider the Yaris. This is my second car to the miata and I really needed to purchase a more life-proof vehicle with 4 seats and a hatch. Absolutely love the yaris though I wish we had it here in the states -I love the hot version eps with it and the australian youtube vids are crazy

I’m not having clutch issues as much as when on a hill I can put my foot to the floor and the rpms have a noticeable delay between idle and 1200rpm. I’ve stalled this car 3 times so far from moving my car out front of my house to my driveway (both are inclines). Strangely enough I haven’t stalled the car out driving around when I’m stopped at a light on an incline. I know the hill assist holds you in place, but idk if the IMT is doing something weird with the throttle when I’m starting on an incline. The way I’ve been combating this is just giving the car extra revs before taking off but it’s definitely odd and I can’t explain that hesitation on steep inclines.
I’ve been driving standard transmission vehicles for 15 years now and starting on inclines hasn’t been an issue since I was first driving. It really seems to be a throttle response issue and my car only has 300ish miles so far.
I have had 0 problems with the car during any other driving situation and the car has been everything I’ve wanted.
on hills with IMT on i still use throttle as if IMT wasnt on, I push the break in hard before so it holds on the hill too. definitely a weird thing of this car

damn, 39k aint bad for a little nugget of a turbo awd manual sedan!!! probably one of the few modern cars that won't depreciate much of all! word of advice, i know its an unpopular opinion but at your age you need to be a lot smarter with money than someone thats got some years and income under their belt, KEEP IT STOCK!!! Other than wheels/tires/pads/fluids and maybe a catback don't jeopardize your warranty! Toyota has been giving people shit about the RTV issues on the 86, they would love to void a warranty on a car like this without hesitation. and yes i understand the magnuson-moss law, just dont risk it!

i also dont understand the rev match sticklers, do you really need to prove it to yourself LOL. i daily a 24' FL5 Type R and the rev matching is truly magic, it is unreal how well it works.
As I said I only can compare it to Porsche, but Porsche’s version is 10x faster and cleaner lol

Can you get decent mileage if you stay out of BOOST?
My mileage over 390 miles is 25mpg, I haven’t once gone full throttle or over 5500 rpm, I’ve noticed boost only kicks in with a decent amount of throttle. If you just drive calmly it stays out of boost and gets high 20s and I’ll get 30-32 on highway
I can't take this car seriously. It has wheel spacers from factory. Toyota should have spent the money to bring the GR Yaris to the states.
Just letting you know that lane assist and acc cruise control will make you a worse driver over time

My commute doesn’t include highway or anything so I’ll rarely be using it either way. It’s dope tho

I would have gotten one. But that engine is too small and already stressed out. Small engines are hard to cool due to lack of oil capacity. And the clutch pack overheating is also another reason I didn’t pursue getting one. Hopefully it serves you well bro.
